They had numerous sours and hard to find stuff on tap. --- They had Furious, Coffee Bender, Pentagram, Misanthrope, Dumpster Fire, Smoke, Damien, cans of regular bender and cans of overrated IPA.
A very cool gift store in a separate room. You don't have to try to buy a shirt from the bartender, which I really liked. I thought the prices were fair. I was surprised that the coffee bender was in a snifter as it is low abv and served in pints everywhere I've ever seen.

Located in a rather unassuming location in an industrial park. We were rather worried that we had looked up the wrong address. However, we did make it to the tap room in one piece. Atmosphere is quite interesting with all sorts of industrial art in the ceiling, and they have the whole metal-industrial feel going. Very neat. The tap room was relatively crowded in that there were no more chairs but one, but it was not shoulder-to-shoulder crowded by any means.
Loved the Darkness goblets they serve some of the beer in. Service is very punctual and the bartenders were helpful in helping my wife's other family members decide what beer they wanted (I definitely knew what I was getting!). Very helpful and prompt service.
Draft list consisted mostly of 10oz pours of Darkness, Abrasive, Cacao Bender, El Hefe Negro, etc. and these cost $5 a pour. You could also purchase cans for consumption on premises. So basically they offered their interesting brews and I'm happy that they would have Darkness available for us to try. $5 a pour is quite reasonable considering what it costs to buy a bottle of Darkness on Darkness Day.
Only gripe is that they should get more chairs for each table and the bar counters on the wall. We ended up having 1 person sit on a chair and 4 people standing around the table. But it's fun and worth at least one visit if you're passing through town and haven't had some of the more interesting, different Surly brews (Cacao Bender being one of them).

Located at the end of a street in an industrial area, I know when I was driving over, I was concerned we might have taken a wrong turn or three. Once you do arrive, the tasting room is directly to the right as you walk in the front door. The tasting room is a no frills affair, consisting of a small bar area to your left as you walk in the taproom area, and then a few tables and chairs interspersed around the room. As you face the bar there's also a gift shop to your right (with lots of Surly Schwag), and the low ceiling room also has a few Surly posters on the wall as well. The place is fine, no doubt, but there's nothing really memorable about the decor here either. Service here is, well, serviceable. There was a decent size crowd at 3:15 on the Wednesday we visited (the day before Thanksgiving), and the service consisted of pouring beers, taking money and making change. Everyone was pleasant and friendly enough, but there wasn't much of an effort made to be engaging or to chat up any of the customers. Not that it mattered... the show here is the beer, and in that regard there were no disappointments. They had 10 beers on tap the day I was there, as well as a firkin of the El Hefe Negro aged on cherry oak. Otherwise, there were all the usual suspects on tap, including Darkness and Abrasive on this day. As this was Surly, it kind of goes without saying that the quality level of everything we tried was oustanding. Prices were pretty good as well, at least in comparison to what I encountered around the rest of the twin cities. My 10 ounce glass of Abrasive and darknes was $5 a pop, and my pint of El Hefe was $6.
Loved my visit here and plan to stop by again, every time I'm in town.

Been to several events including Darkness Day 3 years in a row and have always had a great time. The staff are always approachable and friendly, especially to us over nighters!
The beer is of course delicious and when they have food trucks in they are always spot on as well.
Can't wait for their destination brewery to be built though I will probably miss the intimate setting I've grown to love.

I visited Surly 2 Novembers ago while up in Minnesota for a Bears/Vikings game.
The Atmosphere up there was great. We stopped in for a tour and were able to enjoy multiple beers that they had on tap. They have a nice, clean tasting room with plenty of seating for everyone on the tour plus extra people.
The Quality was perfect - Surly makes top-notch beers that I greatly enjoy.
The Service from both the bar and the gift shop was also perfect. Everyone I dealt with had a good attitude. The bartenders had no problem answering questions about the beers on tap and the beers they make in general, and the two ladies working the cash register in the gift shop were very helpful as well.
The Selection was great as they had all their regular fall/early winter beers plus a variation or two that I can't remember the specifics of. They also have a wide variety of Surly gear and glassware in the gift shop.
They do not serve food here.
The Value was very reasonable. They were performing a toy drive for a cancer hospital, so admission into the tour was simply a toy to be dedicated to the toy drive. I found the gift shop prices to be reasonable as well.
NOTE: Surly does NOT SELL BEER at their brewery. I don't count this as a negative as I believe this is adhering to a MN law rather than their own choosing. You really need to know this ahead of time so that you aren't disappointed.
I would go back without hesitation. Thanks Surly!

Great selection of special brews that you can only get at their Tap Room. They don't serve food, but will often have a food truck outside by the patio where you can grab a bite. Friendly staff who ensure that your beer is served right. A must-stop if you're in the Twin Cities.
