A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2012. Picked up from my local beer specialist. Described on the label as a Köln-style beer; a top-fermented brew that is subsequently lagered.

Poured into a tulip pint glass (I don't have any stangen). A bright straw-yellow colour with low carbonation and fine sediment. Yields a large head of brilliant white foam with a fine texture and good retention; it takes a few minutes to subside to a surface layer. Aroma of light malt with notes of fruity yeast, wheat, flowery aromatic hops and a faint buttery whiff.

Tastes of light, fruity malt with a subtle aromatic hop character. Notes of yeast esters, flowery hops and wheat. A mild, crisp bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly tingly. Faintly astringent. Aftertaste of fruity pale malt.

Pretty good, a tasty brew with a restrained character. Somewhat less hoppy than the offerings from some German kölsch producers. Light on carbonation. Would go down well in warm weather - worth trying.

Quite a bready taste and thin fizzy MF
to me this is an interesting lager twist rather than an ale

Champagne blonde with fast-fleeing loose snowy foam.
Waxy lemon peel and Noble spice nose.
Saltines, some tin, slight apricot/yellow apple then grassy hop bite.
Lemon sorbet finish and cardamom linger.
Crisp, dry, slight chew, light.

Past date from the discount bin, which is ironic for a style that's not supposed to be tasted even in the bottle. Nevertheless, the style points are all in place: fruit, hops, yeast. Hurt by almost dead flat body and just generally being underpowered. But good in summer.

Bright golden color with a thin head with short retention.
Light aroma of vanilla and floral hops.
Flavor of biscuit malt, vanilla and floral hops. Spicy sensation on the tongue. Dry aftertaste with an elegant bitterness.
Light body with medium carbonation with tiny bubbles.
A super refreshing and well executed Kolsch.

500ml Bottle from Valhalla's Goat, Glasgow:
This one seemed more German than English which can only be a good thing with this type of beer. The taste was a smooth and clean one with a good balance that helped it go down quite easily. It's probably not one I'd go back to but it was an good beer and one worth trying if you get the chance.
