500ml Bottle from Morrisons (£1.25):
Copper amber with a thumb sized, part bubbly/part foamy and slightly beige white head. There is minimal reduction and some nice lacing.

Pretty subdued with nothing more than a few earthy hops and traditional style, English malts making up the majority of the aroma. There is some roasted malts and a nutty aroma but all of this is rather hard to detect.

Quite weak tasting like the nose with the basic roasted malts and an earthy taste shinning through with nothing much else other than some semi-strong bitterness and a nutty taste.

Medium with a lot of bitterness and a clean, crisp feel that is quite dry at the end and has stronger than expected carbonation, moderate on the whole. Not the best although some allowances can be made for the low alcohol content.

This one is pretty basic and again very unexciting yet drinkable. It had a weak aroma and taste but what I could detect was okay and the beer would make a good session beer if low abv. English bitters are your thing.

500 ml bottle, as Jennings Bitter, bought at Newcastle Intl Airport. ABV is 3.5%. Copper colour, moderate off-white head. Moderate aroma with some malty and nutty notes, hints of caramel and English hops. Light bodied, as expected from a 3.5% beer, but the fairly dry flavour has some nutty malts, a slight acidity, and a distinct and slightly metallic hoppy bitterness in the finish.

Basedon pasteurised bottle though alas the cask has become little more
pours golden brown with soapy off white head
Aroma is mostly malt. Medium body. Bittersweet. I don’t get much in the way of nuttiness that is once had

Coming in a slim 500ml brown bottle; BB 31/07/14, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: pours a copper-ish hue, coming with a dark beige frothy head with very good retention, supported by a mixed carbonation consisting of huge as well as microscopic fizz.
S: roast malt and light caramel sweetness plus sour nuttiness and earthy Fuggle-like hops. A swirl would bring up crushed biscuity aroma and random sulphuric notes, but only just. Simple but pleasant.
T: softly refreshing, aromatically roast malty and lightly nutty on the entry with limited fruity estery hints; against the good backbone of bitter-sweet malts comes a deepening wave of light acidity and chewy earthy/toasted-tea-leafy hop bitterness, leaving a dry-ish palate lingering along with more toasted-tea-ish aroma through to the very end of each sip.
M&O: the mouthfeel is light and refreshing, the body remains light, but overall the flavour profile is rather rounded malty and balanced, backed by a good level of attenuation as well as hop bitterness. The dry-ish palate tastes as if rendered by the hops as much as the roast malts, which makes this beer a rather thirst-quenching one.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2011. The front label features a picture of the brewery.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear amber-brown hue with good carbonation. Produces a huge tan head with a fine, creamy texture. Looks pretty good. Slighly sweet malt aroma with hints of caramel and fruitiness (esp. bananas).

A faintly burnt caramel taste with some yeast esters and a hint of solvent. Dry bitter finish with notes of stewed leaves. Mouthfeel is a bit watery, but smooth and mildly astringent. Leaves a dry bitter aftertaste.

An OK bitter, but not amazing. Tastes rather average, with a weak body. Not a beer to go out of your way for.

Brown 500ml bottle (as stated by the previous reviewer, they have now dropped the 'Best' from the name. The beer was just out of date when it was reviewed during one of my 'random tasting evenings'.

The beer is a lovely clear deep copper colour, a full off-white foaming head sat on top. The head gave off a good thick lacing down the glass.

The aroma was malty more than hoppy, as was the taste. The body is fine considering the ABV, this is a good session bottled beer.

A pleasant beer and recommended for those that want an uncomplicated English Bitter.

Named Jennings Bitter on the bottle but has the same abv and fits other reviewer's description.

Dark copper coloured ale with roasted malt nose and decent sized head full of miniscule bubbles.

A nutty, slightly smoky malt flavour dominates. There is a barely discernible hoppy edge which gives the beer a little more bite. Not what one would expect from a bitter but certainly very pleasant and eminently drinkable despite a rather dry finish.
