Had on tap at the brewery in July 2005. I had the mega pint for $5. The first stip reveals a strong taste of coffee and roasted flavors. A typical stout. The mouthfeel is a little creamy. I'm not sure of the ABV but it seemed to pack a little bit of a punch. Maybe because I hadn't had anything to eat. Good perhaps a little overrated but a decent and solid stout offering.

Pours jet black with a deep mocha colored quick to fade head, even when held to the light nothing gets thru this body.Coffee roast and molasses mainly in then nose,a bit of rawness to it.Not as creamy and full as the label suggests, its not thin or fizzy but not quite what I expected.Earthy and roasted flavors with mild molasses-like sweetness,it's a litle raw in the finish with some woody tomes. Its pretty good but not great, the sweetness creeps up more as I drink more.

Appearance – This one is black in color with a tanned, foamy head. The head formed into clumps as it slowly subsided. Nice.

Smell – The aroma here in incredibly smooth and even with a rich texture. The darkish malts and light, dark sugars dance in perfect harmony. Simple, yet extremely well done.

Taste – I’ll christian this one “Mr. Smoothie”. The dark, roasted malts and high-quality sugars are expertly balanced. Again, nothing fancy here, just Stout done right.

Mouthfeel – This one is heavy and full-bodied with a wonderful mouthfeel. It is satisfying on so many levels. I can’t overstate how incredibly smooth this is in the mouth. It’s one of those Stouts that you just want to hold in between your cheeks all night long.

Drinkability – This one was exciting enough to earn the “Tsunami” moniker.

Comments - Big thanks to skyhand for popping this one at one of her famous tasting events.

bomber from my main BIFIII duck

Pours an opaque oil black. Finger of head that disappears very quickly. Little lacing.

Smells chocolate malt, maybe a little oats, some toffee.

Tastes a little sweet, maybe porter-ish. Maybe a little dry, not sure about the finish. Is that coffee flavor? Sure is quiet.

Some carbonation, but not much considering. Thin and medium bodied. Does have staying power though. Finish isnt overpowering, maybe a bit tart. No real alcohol anywher. ABV is pretty low.

Good stout. Nothing special, but pleasurable to have something different. Not deep, dont come into this beer looking for much, but you will ger a tasty, fresh and mild stout.

Poured dark into tulip. Dark brown head. Nice lace. Foamy creamy retention. Thin layer of foam throughout.
Milky burnt roast chocolate notes.
Decent Stout but not an earth shaker.
It's a stout. It's decent. I would gladly drink one again if offered to me but I won't go out of my way to seek it out.

Similar to Shakespeare Stout but I prefer this. Ink black with brown highlights, a soft and substantial head forms but dwindles to a ring, leaving little wisps of lace down the glass. Chocolatey aroma with a charcoal roastiness. Tsunami Stout is initially quite bitter, with herbal hops leaping across the tongue. They are soon mellowed by the full, thorough roasty quality of the malts. Evocative of both the salt sprayed air of the Oregon coast, and the proliferation, nay, infestation, of espresso bars throughout the Northwest. Slight flecks of chocolate, brown sugar, licorice, and raisin flavors soon fall by the wayside as the hop bitterness returns to pair up with the burnt, huge malts. Aftertaste is creamy, chocolatey, balanced by slight mint and pine hop qualities. Mouthfeel is smooth and velvety, just the right amount of slippery. Drinkability a bit low for me; as with many serious stouts, patience is rewarded, and haste makes for unneccesary and unwelcome waste.

Pours pitch black with a light brown head with no retention. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Sweet chocolately flavor with a roasted bitter finish. Medium-full bodied with a great chewy mouthfeel. Is also quite dry. Pretty good stout, this is enjoyable.

Had this courtesy of ChuggyMcBeer, mbudner, and TempsPerdu - much obliged!

Pours one shade away from black with dark ruby highlights and a one-finger light brown head. The head recedes into a thin pancake on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of deeply roasted malts with hints of unsweetened chocolate.

Doesn't taste quite as roasted as the smell led me to believe. Roasted malt flavors with a good deal of sweetness lead things off, followed by mild chocolate and coffee flavors that lend themselves to a bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a very nice thickness with soft carbonation that make this go down smoothly.

Drinkability is good. I had no problem finishing my glass and could drink a few of these in one sitting.

Overall this is a very nicely balanced stout that doesn't try and cram too many flavors in one beer. Worth a shot.

Thanks to Shane(beachbum1975) for sharing this brew.

A: Pours pitch black, no light. Decent head on the pour but with little retention. Not much lacing.

S: Light roasted malts with a light hint of lactose. Some sweet notes of vanilla. Some chocolate comes out as it warms.

T/M: Nice light roasted malts and creamy chocolate. Again, just a bit of lactose, adds an interesting twist. The chocolate gets bitter in the finish adding even more depth. Some added sweetness from what I think is some vanilla. Body is medium full with a creamy feel.

D: Not a huge stout but tasty and very interesting. Drinks pretty easy.

Pours a pitch black into a standard pint glass with a two fingered tan head that looks just about perfect for a stout.
The head is long lasting but I didn't get much lacing, I'll call that foul on the glass as the head refused to die all the way down. very pretty.
the smell is roasty burned malt , a touch of hop spice
Kind of subdued.
OK I'm gonna say it, It reminds me overwhelmingly like Gluiness Foreign Extra Stout.
It's a little smoother but the similarities are obvious.
A very nice brew, but look out for Ireland.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into my Pelican pint glass.

Coffee-colored liquid with faint rust highlights towards the edges of the glass...otherwise, opaque. Three fingers of sandy brown, creamy, springy, supernatant foam - receding to a small but thick layer with lacing that reminds me of a sugar cone mold or a pie crust...dropping back onto the surface like sand surrounded by sea-foam (legs).

Light toffee, coffee dipped toast, chocolate, licorice, and brown sugar aromatics. Roasted malt and hints of dried persimmon.

Roast chocolate malt, coffee, green cocoa beans, and a lime-like hop note on the palate. Creamy, sweet, lightly fruity, bitter, with an almost tangy roasty finish and hints of walnuts. Everything in its place. Spot on for style, clearly made with high quality ingredients and care. No off flavors at all.

Body is a little bit light, though the carbonation is just right. Not much warmth from the alcohol, it is very well disguised.

Surprisingly subtle and straight-forward - the name had me expecting a big Imperial leviathan rather than a polite slow session beer.

I lugged this one all the way across the country with me from Portland and resisted it sitting in my fridge until tonight. Beautiful, dark dark dark color. Pours fairly thick with minimal head. Malty, coffeeish aroma. Beautiful taste, a WHOLE lot of malt, some coffee, a faint hint of chocolate and chicory. Dry mouthfeel, but not too dry. Semi-sweet aftertaste. This is a wonderful beer from one of my favorite breweries in the world. Darren does a great job out on the coast, I wish I weren't 3000 miles away now.

22oz bomber

used as the base for a pot of penn cove mussels, paired remainder with the dish

appearance: served in great taste taster chalice, deep ebony body - light garnet hue, thin creamy mocha cap

smell: deep rich aroma - charred malts, espresso, chocolate, smoke, sugars.

taste: The mussels turned out great, but the stout was a bit dry and bitter for my taste. espresso, char and smoke, heavy roasted malts, bitter bakers chocolate

mouthfeel: bitter from the roast, dry

overall: to-style, but not a style I'm too crazy about

22-oz bomber to tulip. Traded for at Bottleworks in Seattle, May 2013. Unsure of the bottling date. Consumed 3-15-2014. Yeah, it old.

Very dark chestnut brown, hews closely to black. Minimal head. Appearance anticipates the smell and taste. Smoked malts, reminiscent of dark brown bread soaked in coffee; dark chocolate too.

Harsh roast - though, luckily, this doesn't get acrid. Thinner, but very drinkable, true to style.
