22-oz bomber to tulip. Traded for at Bottleworks in Seattle, May 2013. Unsure of the bottling date. Consumed 3-15-2014. Yeah, it old.

Very dark chestnut brown, hews closely to black. Minimal head. Appearance anticipates the smell and taste. Smoked malts, reminiscent of dark brown bread soaked in coffee; dark chocolate too.

Harsh roast - though, luckily, this doesn't get acrid. Thinner, but very drinkable, true to style.

Honey-combed rose-tinged sandstone head over black body.
Sweet, smoke, meat and red cherry nose.
Big sweet licorice and dark chocolate, a warm roasty hit, and branch + blackberry hops with some real IBUs.
Black rye bread bite to end and creamy anise linger.
Medium to full, well chewy, round.

A big stout with contribution from PNW hops. Not all the usual RIS notes: creamy, some red berry, but no coffee. The definition of American Stout.

Appearance: Pours thick and dark, solid black. Very small hints of brown and red at the edges when held to direct light. Dark beige head fades, but leaves a small collar with decent retention. Some splotches of cap. Negligible lacing or carbonation.

Smell: Mega roasted malt. A hint of smoke in the back. Dark fruit abounds pushing cherry, plum, and some fig. touches of leather and stale coffee. Loaded with cocoa and dark powdery chocolate. Crazy chocolate. Some mineral undertones with a touch of floral on the back. Nicely balanced.

Taste: Cocoa powder and dark chocolate. Lots of it. Some old coffee and a solid roasted element. Dark fruit mixes through the back with cherry and plum mostly. Balanced malt sweetness with a touch of smoke through the back. Loses a little complexity as it warms, becoming crazy roasted cocoa. Hops are minimal, adding some herbal and floral notes, but little else. A hint of roasted bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with a slightly above average carbonation. Surprisingly clean finish.

Overall: Aggressive, not catastrophic waves.

A big stout without teeth. Crazy roasted and definitely drinkable. Would be better shared.
