Great selection of Belgian and Belgian inspired beer, especially the tap selection. Not the ideal place for a non-Belgian fan. Food is well made, especially the house made sausage on the Big Board. Bartenders know their beer and their food, and are enthusiastic to talk about them. They do a good job of making suggestions to people not familiar with the beers they carry.

Went in around 2:00 PM on a Saturday. Really cool atmosphere, that mix of industrial, and modern. You weave through the tables to get to the bar, which is pretty large and spacious. Once at the bar, there were about three or four people behind the bar, and not really busy, but it took a couple minutes to be recognized. Friendly, but somewhat elitist. Looking through the beer selection, which was very nice, but kind of run of the mill. Nothing really knocked my socks off. The food menu was nice as well, but ordering the meat/ cheese/ vegetable board for $19 and getting not that much. Not saying it wasn't good, but 3-4 ounces of meat, 4-5 ounces of cheese, and a beet and a cocktail onion for $19 was a bit much. I did enjoy this place, but I was expecting something a bit more the way I hear people talk about it. I just feel it was a bit pricey for about average stuff.

Bier Markt is home to the first true Belgian-style beer house in the Cleveland area. The beer selection is what you would expect...Chimays, Trappistes Rochefort, Ommegangs, Duvel and so on alongside some typical Belgian fare such as Pommes Frites (which are outstanding and a must try). The atmosphere is generally low-key/laid back however the place gets loud and busy on Friday and Saturday evenings with a very diverse crowd. The beer selection, while vast, isn't changed up to often. They have weekly handle specials but for the most part, they stick with the same line-up. Service is good during moderately busy hours and they do fairly well keeping up on busy nights. In terms of value, food and most beers are reasonable, however, some of their high alcohol and rare beers are a little more pricey, but not outrageous. Overall, Bier Markt has a key to my heart because it was the place that I first experienced the Belgian-styles that I have come to adore. Its a great place for a date especially if its a quiet evening given their nice plush couches and comfy half-circle booths as well as the area surrounding the rear pool table. Be sure to check out Speakeasy, a cocktail lounge beneath the joint (the way you know it's open is by the chandelier that hangs over the stairwell that leads you to it..if its on, its open.) Cheers!!!

Bier Markt is a great value. They have a number of Belgian and domestic beers, many of which are on tap and all of which are very reasonably priced. A few days ago, I had Three Floyds Alpha King, St Bernardus Abt 12 and Bell's Christmas Ale all on tap plus a serving of pommes frites for 28 dollars. Their dipping sauces are pretty good but I've definitely had much better ones but the frites are still really tasty. Worth a visit if you're in the Cleveland Area and right next to Great Lakes Brewing Company and Bier Markt's brother restaurant Market Garden Brewery.

(Visited 07/2011): McNulty's is located in the Ohio City area around the corner from Great Lakes. The brewpub is located on W 25th and Market. Parking is typically scarce in the surrounding area.

The interior is large and somewhat divided, and has a comfortable feel. It boasts a long bar along the right side with table/booth seating throughout the space. There is a large chalkboard behind the bar listing current offerings.

McNulty's beers have a strong Belgian influence, with a lot of the more common beers from that country. All told there are around 15 taps with Duvel (Green), Hoegaarden, Chimay, Lindeman's, St. Bernardus and Ommegang on this list. A sampler is available. The bottled selection numbers around 50 again with an emphasis on the Belgian style. Breweries such as Ommegang, Duvel, Unibroue, Dupont, and Westmalle are present. Outside of Belgium they carry common domestic macro and microbrews.

Service was good on a relatively slow (at least compared to Market Garden) weekday evening. The bartender had a thorough knowledge of of the beer list and was attentive throughout my visit.

I did not have any food on my visit.

Overall this is a nice spot to hit for a solid Belgian beer menu in Cleveland.

Been here a couple times now, and headed back in 10 days. Bier Markt has good atmosphere- it's huge inside, and usually not too loud. There's also outdoor seating if you want to hang outside. Just around the corner from Great Lakes. The service has been good, but not great on my visits. It can, at times, be a challenge to get the bartender's attention- but it's not horrible. The selection is great- lots of Belgian beers, and a great selection of Belgians on draft. Never been disappointed w/ the drafts at all. Food is your typical pub fare, nothing outstanding. Value is pretty good, especially coming from Washington DC. This IS the place to go if you're in Cleveland and you love Belgian beer. Check it out- you won't be sorry!

The Bier Markt on 25th is the only place I'll go outside of the Great Lakes Brewery when I'm in Cleveland. The selection is entirely Blegian, and the best selection of Blegians I've seen. They have Unibroue, Rochefort, and Westmalle. The draft selection is also amazing.

The atmosphere is really good, the only knock is the fact that it gets packed if you go in later in the night, but I guess that's a sign of a good bar.

I was thoroughly impressed when, the bar was packed and I had to wait at least 5 minutes to get a bartender's attention, I ordered Rochefort 10 and La Fin Du Monde. The lady bartender didn't even question me! Also, all carry-out bottles are $1.50 off which makes them still slightly expensive, but not for what you're buying.

Being a huge fan of Belgian beers, the Bier Markt is a place for me.

My wife and I were visitng my brother over the Thanksgiving Holiday when we went to this place on his recommendation. I'm glad we did, because it was quite enjoyable.

The vibe has a bit of a personality disorder. Classy but laid back, it had a very comfortable feel to it. The patrons ran the whole gambit of hipsters to yuppies to run-of-the-mill beer fans.

Our server was a younger girl who seemed slightly cold, but made sure we always had what we needed and never took too long, I just like a bit warmer, helpful feel to the service.

The selection of beers is quite impressive, and the taplist is really nice. Although this place specializes in Belgian beers, there was no shortage of craft beer selection, even non-Belgian-inspired beers. Also, almost all glasses are branded to the beer, which is a big thing for the Belgians, and in my opinion improves the experience with most beers, so I dug that.

I'm not sure if they have food, as we just grabbed a couple drinks before moving on to have dinner at Momocho.

Cleveland has never disapppointed me with food and drink and this place was no different. I wish we had the time to spend more than a couple drinks at this place. Highly recommended!

I have mixed feelings about this place. The first few times I was there it was a nice novelty in Cleveland to see all of the Belgian taps, and the atmosphere was nice. Every time in the past 2 years it has grown stale. The patrons are of the douche-bag variety is very large numbers, most of them drinking the cheap Pabst. The Belgian taplist has not changed and they have paid less attention to the proper glassware, something that made it fun the first few times. It takes FOREVER to get a beer when it is crowded. It would help if they could get a few more rotating guest taps.

The best way to describe the atmosphere of this place is eclectic.
I think they were going for sheik but threw in a pool table and some flat screen t.v.'s. This place is huge inside with a nice bar area, plenty of small tables, and booth for those eating. The lobby was a little creepy with curtains hung from the ceiling, I wasn't sure if this was an orgy room or beer bar. This is where Cleveland's beautiful people(the elite) come to drink, but still comfortable and inviting to a normal guy like me. Everyone including the staff seem to be having a great time.

The selection and quality were awesome. Plenty of taps and a great bottled beer list. Their focus is Belgian beers but they have a great selection of craft beers as well. Most beers are served in branded glasses, which is very cool with me. The beer is fresh and poured properly.

The service is quick and friendly. They have more than enough bar maids and tenders to handle the busy crowd, that was a big plus to me. The servers seem very knowledgeable and serve the beer proper and with pride.

Market Square was once overrun with winos but is now home to some great bars and restaurants. When the new brewery opens this will be the greatest block for beer in America.

Beer heaven. If you don't like Belgian beers, what's the matter with you? Get it together and get yourself down to this excellent beer bar.

They have what they should have - lots of quality Belgian style brews (and a few others), samplers, great presentation, excellent appetizers and stuff.

The decor leaves a little to be desired. The place looks like my parents would expect it to look, having lived in this town for almost 60 years. They know this is in what used to be a horrible neighborhood. Now its just a bad neighborhood. I expected a cleaner look, but it's kind of faux swanky.

McNulyy's Bier Markt is around the corner from Great Lakes Brewery.

Selection is exclent. Feature an IPA and Stout of the week. Most beers on tap are belgian, but also offer Brooklyn, Magic Hat. Plenty of bottles of belgian beers and micros. I had Cain and Abel Ipmerial Rye IPA on tap here.

Food was good, my wife and I shared the marinated olives and a pizza. Excellent!!!

Decor was modern, service was decent. Out bar tender was extremely knowledgable about the beer offered.

Worth a visit when in Ohio City.

I have been here a few times and I decided to stop in on my last visit to Cleveland to give it a review.

The atmosphere was very interesting. There is a dining area as you walk in, but as you continue you enter a very large room with the bar, booths, tables and a pool table in the far back. The place has a very stylistic look to it, a little too trendy for me.

If you love Belgian beers this place offers a very quality selection. Not only do they have great beers, they serve them all in the proper glassware!

Service was good. It was rather busy, so not being able to get a beer for a few minutes is understandable.

Selection is pretty darn good. They have a huge chalkboard behind the bar. When I was there the following beers were on tap: St. Bernardus 12 Abt, DFH 90, OA Yeti, Draak, Delirium Tremens and several others.

Overall, if you are into Belgian beers you have to stop here.

Returned from my first trip there about an hour ago. Learned about it here on BA (thank you all very much indeed!)

Atmosphere: I have read all of the other reviews here on BA of this place's atmosphere so I was prepared for the "modern decor" and such and indeed it is still there but I found it to be very warm and comfortable albeit very very dark. Myself and my party (we totaled 4) could not read our menus it was so dark. Addendum 12 14 08 I returned there 4 or 5 more times since writing those comments. I think that we sat in a low lit seat because I have not had a problem seeing menus since that night. In fact, last night I was commenting to the group that I was with that this place has a great atmosphere. I am upgrading my rating from 4.0 to 4.5.

Quality: Very good for a place that focuses on beer I was suprised by the good quality. I have certainly been to places with better quality but their focus was not the beer. Those were comments on the food. The beer was the highest quality.

Service: Good but not great. There were several people willing to help us but our primary waitress left us waiting several times for what I consider to be long periods. For example, after we indicated that we were ready for the check she did not appear for about 15 minutes. I was not in a hurry but 5 minutes would have been more understandable. It then took an additional 5 minutes for her to return with our paid bills (after credit cards were taken and such). Addendum: I returned for a visit 9 13 08. This time we just wanted to drink and shoot some pool. The service this time was as good as it could be. I started a tab at the bar and they handled everything expertly. I am upgrading my previous "3" in this category to a "4."

Selection: 99 beers counting bottles and taps (with about 20 taps) tranlates to an exceptional selection. I had not heard of 1/2 of the beers that they had on tap and had never seen most of the bottles that they had in stock. I took 12 different bottles home with me (reviews to follow!).

Food: Again, really pretty good but not the best that I have had. I was not expecting the best that I have had and I did not get it. The food was a nice suprise. My focus was the beer. Addendum 12 14 08. I have returned 4 or 5 more times since I wrote those last statements. The food is exceptional with authentic Belgian Fries, some great wood stove pizzas, Ohio Burger with Chimay cheese. I am upgrading my rating from a 4 to 5 for the food. It is exceptional.

Value: 12 bottled beers, 4 draft beers, a 10 beer sample, a large order of fries and 2 small pizzas were $170. The 12 bottles were probably $100 so I think that the value is fair.

Notes: I am so glad that I followed through on this place since first seeing it on my way to Great Lakes Brewery (around the corner) and then reading about it here on BA. Anyone reading this who is in the Cleveland Area should look into it. Their current beer selection and menu is online (just follow the link above!).
