Bottled
pours a crystal clear golden body with big white head that froths up then disappears to virtually nothing
It's meant to be a stinging nettle beer but that is not in the aroma or flavour

A gift from friends visiting from England. Thank you!!!

500ml bottle poured into a snifter. Born-on date of May 19 on the bottle.

A: The beer pours a clear golden color with a light white head. Head diminished fairly quickly to a thin coating across the top of the beer.

S: Very interesting. Smells a lot like grape juice from concentrate. Kinda reminds my of the Presbyterian communion I took as a kid. There is just a touch of hop aroma at the finish, but not enough to identify.

T: Really not much going on here. There is a hole where the malt flavor should be. Definitely not the sweetness I expected from the aroma. There is some bitterness that grows in the finish. Not pleasant.

M: Thin and slick. Slides right off the tongue.

D: I will have trouble finishing one. Definitely wouldn't want to order another.

Overall: Not recommended. The idea of a nettle beer is unique. I don't know if this beer is ill-conceived or poorly executed, but the result is the same. Thumbs down.

Brown 50ml bottle, well in date and poured into a UK pint sleeve glass.

Mid-amber, orange colour, good white head on top, looked fine, clear and bright.

Strange aroma, grass and maybe some nettles? Hops came into play too.

Spritzy, sharp flavour and feel to it, very refreshing and easy to drink on a hot sunny day looking at my garden grow all around me.

Organic and fairly full bodied, not rich or creamy, nor thin and watery, just about right for a Pale Ale and 4.5%.

According to the beer label, this ale is brewed with "organic nettles hand-picked in Dorset". The label also has a sign of "River Cottage" (a British TV series) on the front and the photo of the programme's presenter (Hugh Fearnley) on the back - Is it a commercialised product again (just like Sharp's "Chalky's Bite" associated with Rick Stein)?! BB May 2008, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: unlike the other nettle beer I've tasted in Prague (at Pivovarsky Dum) which was devilish green, this one comes in a surprising bright, dark-orangey-golden hue; the white beer head is fluffy and settles slowly, while carbonation remains semi-lively.
S: richly malty with notes of burned sugar and also biscuits, while a lightly spicy+floral edge and sticky lemon-jam stay at the fringe (like Goldings hops with something else). Straight forward.
T: upfront comes rather thin maltiness (burned-sugary actually, suggesting pasteurisation?), skirted by a light touch of lemon-tea-ish citrusness; gradually the aromatic honey, crushed biscuits, sweet floral-herbal tea, and more lightly-burned sugar prevail at the back of the palate; rendering a lightly-chewy and raw-ish aftertaste. Overall, true to Badger's style, the hop bitterness is very moderate, not to spoil the bitter-sweet finish brought about by malts and (perhaps) nettles.
M&D: overly fizzy and fluffy on the palate, but the medium-body befits the moderate malty flavour quite well; the foretaste and initial fizziness tell a bland story, while it takes some time to let the better-malty aftertaste do the talking. Overall, the nettles are nearly absent on the aroma and perhaps blend too well with hops on the flavour, making this a rather relaxing ale to sample (on cask?) in the countryside (I suppose), rather than at home in its bottled and perhaps pasteurised version...

Appearance: gold, great clarity, narrow band of white foam that turns to a thin crown

Aroma: slightly medicinal/herbal punch underlaced with hops and caramelly malt, bit of soap

Flavor: light maltiness with a quick-hitting fruity zip and a slightly leafy zing; honey; finishes semisweet with a malty aftertaste

Mouthfeel: light body, mild carbonation, crisp

Other comments: A bit disappointed, I guess. I was expecting something a bit more unique. Instead it's like "Oh, yeah... I kind of feel some tingling from the nettles."
