A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2014. Picked up from a supermarket ages ago. Described on the label as an ale with added ginger, and named after a type of biting fly found in Dorset.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A rich amber colour with faint floating sediment and good carbonation. Forms a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before collapsing to a patchy surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of ginger, fruitiness, mild caramel malt, ale yeast and stewed herbs. Faint cardboard in the background. Balanced, but the fruity hints are quite strange and hard to place.

Tastes of light caramel with a subtle ginger kick and a mild finish. Notes of ginger, caramel malt, fruity ale yeast, stewed herbs/spice and faint sugar. Quite sweet, with a prolonged leafiness and a spicy heat upon swallowing. Little bitterness to speak of. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and spicy, with pleasant carbonation and decent body. Ginger hints tantalise the tongue. An aftertaste of restrained, peppery heat, subtle caramel and faint stewed herbs/spice.

Rather odd, this one. Not quite sure what to make of it. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are sweet and gingery with a touch of fruitiness. Body is OK. To be fair, the addition of ginger is well done - resulting in a balanced, spicy kick that doesn't overwhelm the beer. However, the sweetness isn't brilliant and in other respects it lack character. Some more robust malt would be nice. Drinkable, and probably pretty good on a hot day, but certainly not world class. Grab one and make your own mind up.

500ml clear bottle, the Flyer in question being some sort of fishermen, or even maybe the fly lures that they employ - this seems to be a common theme amongst rural English breweries.

This beer pours a clear, bright medium golden amber hue, with two fingers of puffy, foamy, and fairly bubbly off-white head, which leaves some roiling boiling water lace around the glass as it steadily sinks away.

It smells of spicy, earthy ginger root, bready, biscuity caramel malt, dry toffee snaps, a bit of white pepper, and quite tame leafy, weedy hops. The taste is a more cohesive gingerbread cookie experience, as the ginger gains a modicum of sweetness and the bready malt edges into sugary cracker territory, with some middling noble hops, and a touch of booze warming.

The carbonation is rather soft, with a small, supple frothiness, the body medium-light in weight, and mostly smooth, the spiciness of the ginger not really factoring in here. It finishes off-dry, the breadiness of the pale malt starting to tilt the balance in its favour.

A decent enough ginger beer, with equal emphasis on the 'beer' part, which most people have trouble coming to terms with. If I hear another request for Crabbies, and when denied and subsequently offered something like this in lieu, and hear 'But I don't like beer!', Imma gonna scream.

Pours amber with a small fading head.
Nose shows boring plain grainy malt at first but is quickly replaced by spicy ginger.
Flavours show even more ginger, reminding me of gingerbread with the sweet plain malt that follows. Finishes weakly with no bitterness.
Moderate carbonation, should be higher.
Overall, too much ginger, not enough backing malt or bitterness.

From a 500 ml bottle. BBE July 12

Poured into Heineken pint glass. Beautiful orange color. Two finger head quickly disappears to nothing. Small bubbles, Looks flat. Sh#t!!!!

Smells vaguely of ginger and cider that's say too long on a warm day. Skunk. Not really looking forward to drinking this.

Tastes like it smells. Not " beer like" at all. No depth of flavour, no malty sweetness. I can actually taste the alcohol if that makes any sense, as this "beer" is only 5.2 %
Truly sickening!

Body of this "beer" is extremely thin. That s all that can be said

Would not drink this again if I was paid to. Big mistake in buying this one, but I suppose it happens every now and again. But having said that, it s not very often that I would consider dumping a beer after the first sip.

A - Looks more interesting than a lager, nice amber colour with some light lacing on top.

S - Slight ginger smell and some sweet notes.

T - Strong spicy ginger flavour upfront and finishes with some typical ale-like hop flavour. The ginger is a bit too strong of a kick perhaps and maybe wouldn't be so bad to taste more of the ale.

M - A kick to the throat from the ginger and pretty strong carbonation too.

O - An interesting one, not the best executed but at least its a bit different. I like it but I feel its a bit too harsh for me to enjoy anything more than one glass of it.

Poured a thin head. Light golden color.
Sweet aroma of ginger. Good carbonation with a medium body.
Strong taste of ginger (though less than ginger beers) and caramel sweetness from malt. Still bitter and with a certain spicy bite. Hard to have a few.

This beer pours a pale amber colour with average carbonation that leaves a fast vanishing half finger head with subtle lacing,it has a real ginger, maple syrup aroma to it very sticky and sweet,it has an average mouthfeel with a real sticky, sweet mouthfeel to it with a strong maple syrup, ginger taste to it which finishes with a sweetish bourbon type finish with a big hit of ginger not the biggest fan of this beer but glad i tried it just couldnt see myself drinking more than one of these beers in a session.

Clean tasting but with an unmistakeable ginger kick. A great winter beer.

I guess that without the ginger this would be a reasonable pale ale - looks good, and tastes excellent but does the ginger let them get away with murder. In this case I think not, difficult to say but I think it would taste good, but less interesting without it.

Light color, nice head, great aroma. Nothing subtle about the ginger in this beer Way to much ginger. Different taste.

Does not really taste like a beer. More like a spiced wine or punch, One was interesting but I doubt I will try it again. This was one of four unimpressive bottles from a four bottle variety pack.
