On tap at Field Of Drafts held at The Hanger in Lancaster, CA.

Pours a hazy orange-brown with a foamy tan head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, toasted oat, and slight cocoa aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa and oatmeal flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has a slightly better smell over the taste for the style.

Thanks to Jeremy for this -a corked and caged bottle into a snifter chilled


A deep brown shade with tan cap -very thick foam with good retention and fine bead clings in a streamers. The smell has a slightly sweet smooth odor of roast with cookie-like scent of toasted nut and slight dried fruit w/ raisin/date tinges accenting the mild cocoa element. The feel is good with slight fullness and moderately high carbonation with mild bitterness and creamy tinge with musty dry and spiced finish.

The taste is good, mild creaminess with subtle roasted body and nice sweet malty entry with dry nutty and slight cocoa-like toasted taste. there is a hint of raisin as it finishes semi-sweet with slight dark cherry and mild hops adding a hint of spice w/ bitter roasted finish. Overall this is a decent example of the style, above average drinkability well brewed thanks cuz for sharing this 2 year old bottle!

The beer pours a dark brownish-red color with a tan head. The aroma is full of oats and some light chocolate malt, as well as a little bit of roasted malt. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of chocolate and roasted malt in the flavor, as well as some oats and a little bit of sugary sweetness. Medium mouthfeel and high, prickly carbonation.

On cask at the Beachwood BBQ, it looks like I'm the first to review this one,

A: Pours black with a full cask sparkler off-white head, excellent retention and jubilant lacing.

S: Light roasted malt notes, maltose sugar, coffee.

T: Roast is light but it is there, almost porter like in its profile. The requisite sweetness I look for in an Oatmeal Stout is definitely there, with a bit of an spicy hoppy tinge that I didn't feel was out of place. Clean finish.

M: Carbonation is very light due to cask-conditioning, light acidity, creamy, easy drinking beer, the body was a bit too thin for me in this style though, minour quibble.

D: A nice drinking pint from Telegraph, I wish is was less pricey so I could drink these all day. A treat on cask.

Draft at Small Bar in San Diego.

Pours pitch black with a one finger off white head that quickly fades into a thin ring.  Minimal spots of lace left behind.

Sweet, slightly roasty aroma with lots of dark malt character.  Lots of oatmeal but not overly roasted or burnt smelling. Hints of chocolate, faint toast and subtle earthy hops. 

Medium bodied with a bit more roast than the aroma suggests.  There's a prominent toasted dark malt character with lots of oatmeal, toast and some dark chocolate countered by sweeter notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.   Easy to drink but a bit thinner than I prefer.  Decent but nothing out of the ordinary.

Poured a deep. deep brown with lots of carbonation, huge tan head and it looked really good! Nose was oats, cocoa. Taste was pretty thick with oats, coffee and cocoa. I did notice a slight sourness on the end.Mouthfeel was full and good. I could drink a few more.

On tap at TJ's in Paoli. Pours nearly jet black with a fluffy tan head that settles down slowly. Patchy lacing clings to the glass. Aroma combines roasted malts and freshly roasted coffee with hints of bittersweet chocolate, lactose, and bittering hops.

Flavor holds a good deal of sweetness in the form of toffee, caramel, and milk sugar; nice roastiness, less prominent coffee than was detected in the nose, and a late emerging, earthy hop note. Still, the bitterness remains mostly in check and the beer is right on style for an oatmeal stout.

Medium body with fairly high carbonation that detracts a bit from the sweet and smooth oat character of the beer. Overall it's quite a nice example, carbonation notwithstanding, but fails to rise to the level of the truly exceptional.

Aromas begin with an amazing combination of cocoa, vanilla, thick oatmeal fresh from the microwave. A little dark fruitiness and mocha as this comes closer to room temperature. Really really enticing and delicious, reminds me of Maduro Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Brown Ale.
The taste initially disappoints however, begins with a really odd off aftertaste, yeasty to be honest. You get the cocoa and dark fruitiness but the finish it initially terrible. However the second glass was heads and tails better; like a good wine this really improved after exposure to oxygen for some reason. It's definitely not that my palate just adjusted to the taste, it definitely needed to breathe. One of the other reviewers noted the same quality, so weird. First time I have ever experienced this quality so prevalent in a beer. The second glass is quite tasty with cocoa, mocha, vanilla and a bit of spiciness maybe from the hops. Mouthfeel is fairly full and this finishes quite dry despite the crap load of oats which I can detect in the aroma.
Overall, despite the two-faced quality of this beer, it is pretty good. Nothing extraordinary, fairly decent. Remember to let it "breathe" for at least 15 minutes before consumption.

Pint from Beachwood BBQ today for seven dollars, glad to see this brewery popping up more and more, also a plus being on handpump of course

A-Very dark brown, thin 1/2 inch bubbly tan head once the beer settled, some retention, nice lacing, was not as creamy as other stouts I have on cask before
S-Cream, whole grains, oatmeal, rich malts, milk chocolate, roastiness, and mild sweetness
T-Oddly the first taste I encountered was coffee and did not see that coming, more on the porter side with the thinness and long roasty finish, had some sweet accents later on with a big sugary flavor, not as grainy as the aroma, also some dry parts especially in the aftertaste where some hops were present, that part was enjoyable, but they needed to make up their mind whether they wanted this to be dry or creamy, should have been creamier in my opinion
M-Creamy, dry, and roasty mouthfeel, body is medium but on the thinner side for its style, could have used a more full texture to add some bite to the overall taste
D-Could drink another pint possibly, but heavy on the stomach, although ABV is low it does not always seem like it, not the smoothest of beers

First oatmeal stout I can remember having on cask and it was just missing something, not near as flavorful as I had hoped for, looked good coming out of the engine though, probably would skip next time, pronbably still worth trying though

Loud pop of the cork, progressively growing head begs to be poured slowly. A shade away from being pitch black. Smells of burnt raisins, licorice, nutty yeast and dark chocolate. Smooth with a crisp snap within the slick medium body. Slightly roasty malt character with more of a chocolate-like edge. Sweet with some dried-plum fruit and dark chocolate. Hop bitterness balances and a mild warming alcohol ester complements all. Hint of yeast in the roasty, semi-sweet finish. A rustic take on the style, which really works here, this beer is packed with flavor and still very drinkable.

This pours a solid black, thick and creamy. I’d spend more time examining it and extolling its merits in the glass but I’d rather drink it.

There’s a great roast aroma to this, and a wonderfully full roasty flavor. The beer has body and heft, with an enjoyable finish that invites reflection—and another sip. It’s an all-around pleasant stout. There’s nothing that’s out of place here, and nothing that screams ‘look at me/ look how extreme’ either. By itself it’s a contender, or a good one to prime your palate for a night of imperial stouts.

Thanks to mlaroche for this bottle.

Batch 58, bottle opens with a loud pop of a cork.

Pours a dark brown color with a huge head, it fades at a super rapid rate but leaves a thin cap on top for awhile, doesn't leave any lacing on the glass.

Smell is mostly roasted malt, at first I thought I picked up a hint of sourness when I opened it but after airing out I couldn't pick it up again, light touch of cocoa in the nose.

Taste starts out with a huge kick of carbonation, very cola like in that it explodes, after the carbonation dies down you'll find a strong roasted malt backing, chalky chocolate notes that finishes rather dry, the creaminess just isn't there because of the sharp carbonation which is surprising for an oatmeal stout.

I'd recommend letting this sit open for awhile so that carbonation can die down, once you do you get a decently average beer.

Edit: It's funny, after looking at a couple other reviewers, they also recommended letting it "breathe", sounds like good advice to me.

Average pour will fill half the glass with foam so watch out. The basic head is two to three fingers of extremely airy and loose foam, dimples only insofar as it is not evaporating fast enough to create a level surface, solid dark tan color, have to give the lacing abover average stickiness. Immaculately unblemished and pure black core, while opaque there it's cleanliness allows for some clarity at the mahogany red to orange glass bottom, looks like it was filtered a dozen times or something. This is a winey, grapey quality right off in the nose, close to floral at times, lifts decisively and with determination, if only to get pulled back down into a blend of mocha, cocoa, semi-sweet chocolate with coconut flakes, scone and oatmeal raisin cookies, the plum, grape, cherry a steady role player, roasty and toasty at might even suggest meatier sweetbreads at times. Medium-bodied, handles its weight well by turning denser, the muscularity concentrates the caramel, dark chocolate, toffee, licorice flavors, by not stretch a sweet beer, roasted coffee and grill smoke obvious throughout. The pastry dough, challah bread element and sweet glaze keep it playing the middle of the spectrum. Vague orange citrus at best, whisper of pine sap, same for a subterranean grassiness. Dried oats, like you'd scoop out of a burlap bag. Chiseled is one way of putting it, not a plush, sloppy bearhug of an oatmeal stout. Can see this being a good food beer.

Good pour, loads of foam and retention - that aspect never a problem with these bottle-conditioned Telegraph beers. Body perhaps a shade or two too light for an oatmeal stout, but I'm being picky.

Aroma is very oat-y with a touch of smoked meat.

At first, I found this to be a thin beer. But as often is the case with these 750s, the 2nd pour is better than the 1st. This is really an oatmeal bomb, almost to the beer's detriment. It even leaves that gelatinous oatmeal-like feel on the lips. Lots of oat, and, as you'd expect from a California brewery, a decent but not crazy hop bitterness. Gelatinous feel, drying throughout, not a whole lot of sweetness to be found anywhere.

Not your ordinary oatmeal stout. Very quaff-able.

Growler from the brewery. Dark brown with a lasting froth of tan foam. Funky chocolate and grain aroma. Medium-full body with a nice creamy texture. Chocolate and oat flavor with an acidic tinge . There is some flavor in here that seems a bit out of pace, maybe the house yeast, which doesn't seem to really jive with the roasted malt flavors. OK, but probably my least favorite Telegraph beer.

Appearance was great from the beginning, Nice and dark, looks like a rich n hearty beer.

Aroma- was light on Oats, but nice chocolate tones, Blueberry syrup, peanut butter(I dont know y but yes).

Taste- was chocolatey, very little oat(just like the nose) bit of a spice; maybe vanilla or another sweet spice.very pleasant.

Mouthfeel- lush, not velvety, like I would expect a Oatmeal Stout to be; but good tho. medium to thick body, depending on sip(portion of brew). Nice butfilling brew.
