Whoa, highly carbonated! Head for days. Takes forever to dissipate but doesn't really leave any lacing at all. Slightly lighter in color than the typical barleywine, it's got the dark orange but no dark red tones.

Uh-oh. Detecting spice in the nose. Fear is creeping into my mind clouding my judgment.

Bummer. Not my favorite. In and amongst the flavors I do like are generous amounts of spice, pepper, and pine - all of which do not belong in a barleywine in my opinion. However, if you do like those flavors and your favorite styles are big spicy Belgians and dipa's then I'm pretty sure you'll love this "ryewine".

Mouthfeel has got a lot of bite. Man, if I was blindfolded taste testing this I would never think it was a barleywine.

Drinkability only suffers more as it warms. If you're more of an English barleywine style lover than trust me and steer clear of this one.

Pours a hazy, but see-through copper with a big white head. Moderate lacing. Alcoholic malt in the nose, perfect for a big barleywine. Slick mouthfeel, long aftertaste. Heavy alcoholic malt and caramel taste. Rye? None to speak of. At the same time it did not mention 'rye' on the label, hope I got the right one. Got to tell you, this is one big, bad, mean barleywine that pulls no punches. Drinkability? I finished the 750, but would be comatose with a second

Poured out orange and light brown without a ton of head on it. Aroma was faint alcohol, more of an English style I was thinking already.

Caramel, sweetness, amber like malt flavors, alcohol heat that comes and goes. Can't really say the rye is jumping out on me. Maybe the heat I'm getting is the rye, but I don't think so. Kind of wondering where the hops are in this one, its a CA American barleywine right? It was a different barleywine, and once I got passed the first few oz, I settled in and enjoyed the beer a little more. A unique take on barleywine.

This arrived as a dark amber with tiny head, and left a thin ring or two of lace.

The smell has the wanted flavors but comes out a bit simplistic. Rye seems thrown in as an afterthought. The taste matches, but adds a hint of alcohol. The mouthfeel is light.

Not bad but this is a style where I want big and bold, and it feels a little lacking.

Described as a "rye-wine," bottled March 31st, 2009. Poured from a 750mL caged and corked bottle into a snifter.

A very slow pour yields a massive fist of peach-tinged foam - dense, then rocky and merengue-like. The Belgian influence reminds me a bit of Pisgah's Hellbender. Body is a hazy mixture of tangelo, burnt orange, and deep carrot orange. Slow rich lacing and viscous oily legs.

Heady fruit aromatics suggesting citrus and red bananas. The yeast seems to be leading the nose..sweet and bready. Alcohol contributes further esters but is otherwise surprisingly mild.

Quite sweet on the palate suggesting honey, candy sugar, with hints of apricot, guava, fig, and peach. Malt presence adds body and further sweetness suggesting caramel and candied apples. Hops are mostly spicy and meld well with the rye malt which adds a lightly bitter/peppery note which, along with a slight alcohol kick, helps dry out the finish a touch.

Smooth, soft, creamy, yet chewy body; medium-heavy with substantial if not excessive carbonation.

I expect this would age very well, though the hops will likely fall off first.

Wow, can't believe this beer is rated so highly. Personally, I found the meh-itude level pretty high.

Pours slightly hazy orange-copper with a decent whitish head.

Aroma is somewhat fruity with sweet malt, sort of like a poor man's Boulevard Seeyoulator, which I had the same night.

Flavor is very fruity and just a little boozy. Caramel malt, cherry, and strawberry.

Medium body with fairly high carbonation.

Overall, meh. Not great for the style. Drinkability is below average.

Found this new beer on tap at Lucky Baldwin's Delirium Cafe in Sierra Madre during their extended Strong Ale fest.

6oz taster size served in a mini Chimay glass. The beer pours a brownish-red, head was minimal but maybe just because it was a small pour. The smell was nice and Rye, as you could probably guess. Came off like a less potent Rye Whiskey which I love. The taste was spicy, a bit strange, with lots of similarities to a barleywine. This beer wasn't really sweet but you could say it was malty. The body was medium, I think the Rye kept the body a little lighter, which is a good thing to me.

Glad to have shared this with myself at my nightly tastings in my living room with my wife and my cat.

Very intresting hue as the reddish tint was very noticeable even though the haze made it almost opaque. A one inch head formed on the top upon pour, that faded almost immediatly. What was left was a thin film of decent quality lace that circle around the glass. Smell was very sweet, caramel sugars hitting almost immediatly. The deeper smell after some warming indicated a nice bready, earthy malt back with a hint of alcohol, which at 9%abv and being a barleywine should be expected. The taste for me was just too light. I expect barleywines to make me sit down and to be a definite sipper, but this just did not have the fullness I would have expected. The finish on it was very dry, and did last a good bit though. T

Pours a reddish burnt orange with a full creamy white head, leaving good solid lacing.

Aromas begin with some caramel maltiness and a hint of hops, but very light for both. Searching for some depth from the supposed added rye malt but all I am getting is a sweet maltiness.

The tastes begin with a sweet/toasted biscuity maltiness mixed with some stone fruit and orange citrus notes. Hops are fairly minor which I wasn't expecting, much more English Barleywine style in overall flavor profile. A bit too sweet on the palate to be honest.

The mouthfeel is medium to full-bodied, with frothy carbonation. Finish is pretty smooth, but a bit too sweet overall, not enough hop character, more hops needed to balance.

Overall this was a bit of a disappointment, I wanted more hops or sharper rye maltiness that I was expecting from the description. Don't remember exactly what I paid for it but it was fairly expensive from what I recall. Regardless it is forgettable none-the-less.

Pours a light orange hue with a huge frothy head. Smell is very plesant. Floral, sweet, and lots of rye. Taste is initially sweet and juicy. There's lots of burnt sugar, caramel, and crisp toffee. This is followed by a very boozy aftertaste. It's a very tasty brew but not too drinkable- too boozy. Well worth a try though, esp if shared with a friend.

First had: on tap at Teresa's, Wayne, PA

Poured a hazy reddish-orange color with a foamy cap of off-white head that retained well and coated the glass with lacing. Caramel in the nose, floral hops, and a vinous quality. The diversity of barleywines never ceases to amaze me. The taste reflects the aroma fairly well, biscuity malt base with hints of rye, floral and citrus hops, mildy tart pineapple, white wine, definite alcohol warmth. Medium body, a bit offsetting and puckering when you go in expecting a "typical" barleywine, but still a decent drinker overall.
