Situation: a lazy hazy Thursday in June...
Glassware: Konig-Pilsener weizen...
Appearance: orange-lemon gold tint with thick, effervescent haze appropriate to a hefe...unfortunately, straight out the growler, the head flattened to a thin sudsy line, suggesting a lack of freshness or a lack of strength...
Aroma: as expected, banana dominates with a hint of bready cereal--inviting to a degree...
Palate: quite thin and sharply crisp, active on the tongue and the throat; busier and with more body than I had anticipated...
Taste: the label says "distinct"--and the tartness in this beer is surprisingly strong for a hefe... intensity mellows with every sip, and the malt is a fortifying element...
Overall: Trying to stay local, I buy a growler or two a year from Climax, and I hadn't tried the hefe yet (must have been a recent add, considering the dearth of reviews). I like their take on the style, and though few will confuse this with a German variety, it cuts the humidity on this night as I hoped it would when I bought it a few days ago. Yeasty with a malt backbone, this works for me...

Hazy gold body topped by the thinnest of films possible.
Pleasant banana/bubble gum nose.
Nice wheaty start. Lemon. Pleasant spice bite offers contrast without overpowering. Clean finish.
Soft light mouthfeel. Easy drinking, particularly on hot days.
An ok verison of a hefe, but not one of Climax's more interesting beers. I'll leave the Hefe to Ramstein and return to Climax for other offerrings.

Pours clouded yellow with a thin creamy white head that stays around and leaves some lacing on the glass.
The smell is of banana. Somewhat musty. Wheat tang.
The taste is banana - with a nod of clove if you think in style - not sure it is really there - sweet candy with crisp, tangy wheat. Some bready yeast...aloing with pineapple as it warms. Lemon zest in the cream-soda-like finish.
Light to medium bodied - I would say smooth, but there is just a touch of astringency...
Certainly an American interpretation of the style - can't say it's a bad one...just lacks the German touch...I know this brewery to make better beers, though this could pass as a wheat beer with the banana touch of a HW that is a thirst quencher in the summer.
