such a cool beer, and since my exposure to japanese craft type stuff is so limited, this was a fun treat. a pilsener didn't exactly ramp up my expectations, but as soon as i smelled the yeasty blonde beer and picked up on some brett and some other unfamiliar yeast, i knew i was in for a treat, intended or not. as best as my nose can detect, this is a wild fermented or at least brett conditioned pilsener. there is a ton of yeast floating around in the beer, and there is a great funky dryness to the nose, its not at all what i expected, and either this has a really flattering infection, or its genius. i couldn't find much info about this beer or even the brewery, so its all a guessing game, but my bottle was just amazing. apparently some part of diene in tokyo? i don't read any japanese, so again, no clue. huge carbonation boosts the interesting yeast to the forefront of the flavor, while the grains stay light and simple, letting the yeast do the majority of the flavoring. a touch of unsalted, not buttered popcorn at the start, and a crockery dry finish that is like a seeded multigrain cracker. never tasted anything like this, mostly due to the yeast. very interesting, very refreshing, infinitely sessionable. id like to learn more about it, try some of their other beers, and find out if this was a fluke. it should get some attention if it becomes available in the american market. a great surprise.

Had this on tap at Roti's House in Maihama, Tokyo. Poured into a tulip glass. Beautiful golden pilsner with a thick white head. Fruity scents of lemon and grapefruit coming off this. Goes down thicker than I expect from a pilsner without any watery aftertaste -- more from the grapefruit, in fact. If I didn't know this was a pils, it would trick me! Loved this!
