Had this at the 2003 OBF. The beer was a very rich and deep amber color, with a brief bit of head. The smell very strong of raisins, tart and sweet. The taste was almost overpowering of dates and raisins, and left a very sugary texture in your mouth, requiring frequent tongue cleanings. There's just too much sugar in this beer, and not enough malt flavor, though there was plenty of body. I wasn't able to finish the sample, let alone a full beer.

Appearance – This one had a nice head that left a little lacing. The body was brown with a tinge of orange.

Smell – The aroma was very faint, mostly citrus hops. I couldn’t get anything else out of the glass except for that.

Taste – The citrus hops were balanced by a nice, lightly-toasted malt flavor. This ale was well balanced and finished with a delicate orange/melon sweetness.

Mouthfeel – Lightly-carbonated and medium-bodied.

Drinkability – This is a good, solid, all around ale.

The beer pours a limpid mahogany color with the head behemothic in size, spumescent in texture and the color a beauteous light tan with the lace forming a tight skirt around the glass. Nose has a light hint of the hops but malt sweetness dominates, a touch earthy also, quite crisp and clean with the start delightfully sweet, nice malt presence and the top fair to middling in its feel upon the palate. Finish is prickly in its acidity, the hops delectable in their spicy bite, quite dry aftertaste that lingers sweetly on the tongue, quite quaffable tis true, and a fine example of a Red Ale.

Tasted at the 2003 Oregon Brewers Fest. Dark amber color. Medium head. Aroma is malty and slightly sweet. A medium bodied red ale. Malts are slightly roasted, nutty and sweet. Hops are spicy. Dry hopping adds to the malt sweetness. Nicely balanced. Very drinkable beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Afterstaste is slightly bitter.

Murky chunky flecked flaked burnished orange-bronze; I can only hope that some of what I see is hop-related. The head is golden orangey ecru in color and deflates to a characterful creamy lid by the time I'm ready to access the aroma. Fat horizontal strands of foamy lace decorate the glass. Looks good.

Very nice---a tremendous, vibrant, hop-filled aroma that threatens to lose contact with the style requirements (but doesn't). Toasted malty background with a brightly hoppy foreground. In terms of hoppiness, doesn't come close to IPAville, but ventures well beyond the city limits of Amber/Redtown. Dry-hopping should be one of the commandments of the hop-dominant styles IM not so HO.

Yup, tastes like a hoppy red; and a pretty well-made one at that. Again, the solid 'toasted wheat bread' maltiness fits the style to a 'T'. The hops are present in significant quantities, but don't overwhelm the malt. Balanced, at least according to a hop head's understanding of the word. Lightly sweet, just enough to take the edge off of the bitterness for those who are bitter-phobic.

Tastes of pink grapefruit (sweet, yet bitter), orange zest and pine. In other words, heavy on the Pac NW hops. I like this beer more and more each time I raise the glass to my lips. The body is medium-full with a pleasant smooth slickness that is a joy to swallow. Lingering, hoptastic finish.

I don't usually comment on a beer's rating in comparison to my opinion, but I can't believe that Hedgerow Red isn't more highly regarded. Is everyone reviewing the dry-hopped beer? The amber/red style tends to be a bit on the boring side and hopping the hell out of your particular version is an excellent way to make it stand out; and is, to me at least, something to be celebrated. Bring it on Far West Ireland, I can take it.

not a deep red, but a brownish-red color, Head was hard to tell as it was poured into foam cup at work party.

smell is pretty crisp hop scent, though the flavor isnt too bitter.

it has a decent flavor which seems pretty well rounded, a little deeper flavor aftertaste. Overall, quite drinkable, but red ales aren't my favorite.
