Tasted on-tap 06/04/07 at the Lucky Labrador Bewpub in Portland, OR.

Dark brown in color with a low brown head. A nice roasted malt and coffee aroma and flavor. A nice robust flavor profile esp. as it warms up. Smooth and medium bodied with a nice dry roasty finish.

This was one of my favorites of the day...

A: heavy brown hue and no head (in a dimly lit bar).

S: malts, molasses, brown sugar and a whiff of hops.

T: coffee flavors, brown sugar or a kind of molasses sweetness. I like the feel of the hops help round things out...nice! Unique balance between the hops and sweetness, it works.

M: smooth down the hatch and medium carbonation. Good rounded out feel overall. A medium-plus body that finishes toasty.

D: not an all night drinker but a nice brew. (454 characters)

1/2 pint in a small goblet at the brewery.

See-thru very deeb ruby brown body with a finger of cream-colored foam. The head reduces to a 1/4 inch skim quickly, but that sticks around til then end. Nice sheets of lace.

This is a bold and robust porter. Burnt malt and coffee up front, followed by a surprising explosion of chocolate chips and tart cherry. A wave of citrusy hops joins the fun during the swallow and battles the burnt malt for attention during the finish. Body is thick and chewy.

Overall impression: Excellent porter. (536 characters)

On tap at Higgin's restaurant.

Appearance: dark brown almost black in color. Nice 2" tan head slowly falls to surface bubbles. Nice lacing develops.

Smell: soft roasted malt and chocolate sweetness are very mild but identifiable.

Taste: roasted malt, dark chocolates, molasses sweetness, and a bit of bitter coffee lingers in the background. A bit dry overall.

Mouthfeel: very smooth and dry from start to finish. Medium-heavy in body. The flavors briefly stick to the tongue after swallowing.

Drinkability: a solid porter here, but a bit heavier in body than expected. Worth a try if you see it on tap in town. (626 characters)

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at Dan & Louis Oyster Bar in Portland.

Appearance: deep dark brown with plenty of haze. There's also a thin head of tan foam; a nice look.

Smell: lightly sweet and roasty aroma; mild but not bad.

Taste: moderately roasty with a light caramel character and a mild earthy hoppiness. A solid porter.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and concomitant creaminess. Good!

Overall: a straightforward, well-made but unremarkable porter. I like it, though. (508 characters)

Pint glass, on tap @ Portland a/p.
Pours dark re. brown w/negligible head, little CO2. Delightful
Bitter, roasted malt flavor w/coffee note finish. Thin mouthfeel.
Add a little more body & carbonation & it'd be a winner! (220 characters)

Had this at the brewery and it was a very good porter with big mouthfeel and lovely roasty coffee notes on the finish. It was hot outside and this beer was not the best choice but I still really liked the balance and big feeling for a lowish ABV. Would be great in the winter (275 characters)

Thick and earthy with a stubborn head on its shoulders. Dark rich undertone that reminds me or woring on the farm in the dirt. It is so dark it looks like you need to spoon it out and into your mouth. Very little light makes it way through when you hold it up. Not much of an aroma until you sip it. (299 characters)
