A - Strong white head with a dark golden/amber beer underneath. Reasonable head retention and lacing.

S - Very aromatic. Floral hops and sweet biscuit malts.

T - Really tasty floral hops, big resin hop body with hints of stewed apple and a well balance malt body.

M- A very slight off mouthfeel almost too drying on the tongue and there is a very subtle underlying soda water type flavour which doesn't sit well but its minor.

D - Make no mistake, this is a very tasty APA. I would say close to if not as good as little creatures PA. Gage Roads best by far! Well done. (572 characters)

Bottle: a tall 330mL solid brown bottle with a pretty cool retro label. I like the name too.

Appearance: pours a mid-amber in colour with plenty of visible carbonation. A one-finger white head fizzes away to a thin cap.

Aroma: a pleasant citrus aroma with light biscuit malt and cereals. Decent.

Taste: pretty much follows the nose. Citrus, cereals, biscuit malts with a touch of caramel. Not mind-blowing, but a really nice all-round and refreshing beer.

Aftertaste: lingers for a time before dropping away - lucky this one is so sessional.

Mouth feel: light- to-moderate in feel with a moderate- to-high fine carbonation. Nice.

Overall: a great all-round pale ale. Not massively complex, but good quality citrus, cereal and biscuit malts. Great for a price of AU$45 a case of 24 x 330mL bottles (2014). Fantastic value. (828 characters)

Bottled beer served in a glass.

Appearance -
Copper colour and clear. No visible carbonation with a moderate head when poured, which dissipates quickly to leave a thin residue.

Smell -
Hints of pine and floral characteristics. A weak aroma.

Taste -
Clean, dry and straightforward. It initially has a biscuit-malty characteristic with a hint of yeast . Finishes slightly bitter with grapefruit notes, and the hops are the most noticeable flavour. It has a slightly metallic aftertaste which doesn't stick around for long. This beer doesn't have a lot of complexity and its flavours are quite subdued overall.

Mouthfeel -
On the lifeless side. It has a slight tingle and a little bit of bite when swallowed, but on the flat side compared to other beers. Swishing it around doesn't result in any extra zing, but it will froth slightly. Watery texture.

Overall -
The old man bought a carton of this to try as an everyday beer, to see if we could do any better than Coopers Pale Ale at the lower end of the price scale. I can see this being visitor friendly beer; it has a clean but mild taste, is on the easy to drink side of beers and a cold one is quite refreshing on a warm day. It also doesn't sit in the stomach as heavily as some other beers. However, I'll take the Coopers over this still any day since it has more personality. The Atomic APA is quite a subdued and safe beer; nothing about it really stood out at me and I found myself struggling to pick out its characteristics as its aroma and taste is on the weak side. It tastes fine and fresh, but lacks personality.

Note: Have this one out of a glass. I found it too doughy straight out of the bottle. (1,668 characters)

Pours amber with a small, fading head.
Nose shows faint nutty malt, soft fruity hops, and a little bit of caramel too.
Some caramel shows as a flavour too, along with some faint spicy hops followed by a mild bitterness.
Could use more carbonation. (250 characters)

New beer from Gage Roads - although taste is very familiar. Not sure what hops are in this beer but is quite similar to the old Gage Roads IPA. Orangy copper colour, soft rounded hop character - more melony/tropical/fruity than citrisy (kiwi hops?). Easy drinking but for me it could be a little sharper in flavour. Well priced at $16 a six pack though. I think people will buy it.... (384 characters)

A - Pours a Golden clear colour with a white head that dies quickly.

S - Mainly malt with a little hop thrown in.

T - Has the bitterness on the finish of a decent PA and just preceeding that it has somehop character, but not enough. The malt up front is a little off putting for my liking.

M - Light to Medium carbonation with medium carbonation.

O - Slghtly above average. (377 characters)

A: Pours a deep golden color with a decent head that fades to some lacing.

S: Aroma of malt sweetness and a bit of citrus and spice.

T: Taste of Caramel sweetness with a touch of spice and bit of fruit in the background. Mild bitteriness and a clean finish.

F: Fairly medium body, smooth and easy.

O: Decent drinker but could use a bit more character. (358 characters)

330 ml bottle poured in Pint glass.
Nice retro/minimalist look label.

Look: Pours a cloudy mid-amber with half a finger of head which dissipates quickly.
plenty of visible carbonation.

Smell: a not over powering citrus. Smells good.

Taste: smooth. citrus straight up. a hint of rock mellon and biscuit but not a lot of after taste.
not cloying which is good.
refreshing. an easy all night drinker.

Feel: very crisp with a smooth, silky finish as it makes its way over your tongue. Enjoyable.

Overall: great citrus smell with a great citrus flavor to follow.
Very refreshing so a great summer ale although I'm drinking it in winter and its still just as nice. Definitely buy again. (687 characters)

(Bottle)

A: Pours a clear golden colour, creamy off white/beige head which is thick and lasts a while. Small amount of carbonation.

S: Yeasty and hoppy, slight metallic undertone. Smells slightly like Vegemite.

T: Hops and not much else.

M: Thin and watery.

O: This beer would be ok icy cold for sessions, and I would have it again but it not much of a stand out. (368 characters)

Part of my 2010 NYE celebrations.

Pours a bright and burnished golden colour, with only a filmy fine head of white foam. Only a minimal amount of sudsy lacing is left behind on tilting. Although the carbonation is large bubbled, the body actually supports a little static bubbling when swirled. Eh. I've had better, but it's not a bad looking brew.

Nose is very light on, with some cereal sweetness and a very faint grassy hoppiness, but there's very little else. More grainy than anything else, and the slight yeasty note gives it a bready character. All up, not a great nose for an APA.

Taste is clean enough, with a little toffee malty character and a light nutty bitterness on the back. Very little character comes from the hops, yet again, but at least here it's balanced enough. I was fearing thin malty water. Feel is crisp with carbonation, and actually suits it rather well.

A drinkable beer, but certainly nothing exciting. Would make a reasonable choice in the Australian summer if nothing else is available.

Overall, it's very much like a pale ale with only the very minimal amount of hops possible. (1,116 characters)

$3 Bomber from a BWS in Surfers Paradise. I'm guessing this isn't overly popular for the frat boy market.

A - Poured what seemed golden in a poorly lit hostel common room with what I'm assuming is a filthy glass. Bright. One finger loose white head gone fast. Good carbonation. No lace and a tiny island of film for retention.

S - Citrus, mango. Kinda mild.

T - A nice blend of really juicy tropical fruits and a touch of sweetness to start, but there's definitely a sugary sweetness in the flavour.

M - No real bitterness, good carbonation, light body.

O/D - Really easy to drink but nothing too out of the box for the Australian market. Good, but unimaginative. Not complex. (681 characters)

A - Very clear, small foamy head and minimal lacing, orange in colour. Illegible date mark on bottle.

S - Weak aroma. Light floral notes, faint malts.

T - Orange and passionfruit up front, quite sweet. Moderate hops but with an unfortunate metallic taint that had me searching for a 5c coin at the bottom.

M - Thin and light, good modertae carbonation.

O - Not a patch on the Little Creatures Pale Ale. Possibly past its best as was half price so may give it another chance in the future. (492 characters)
