Hands down the best MM I have been to and I've been to quite a few. The food is pretty much the same as the other locations(excellent), it is a chain after all. But the craft beer selection at the Tampa location is awesome. Byron, the beer buyer knows his stuff and they consistently get the good stuff in. 120 min, World Wide Stout, Hopslam are always on tap here as soon as they are released. They always have several tap handles of local beer like CCB, St Somewhere and Dunedin Brewery. Great place to grab a pizza and chill with awesome beer.

I did not have the opportunity to frequent the Mellow in Gainesville, so when they opened an outpost in Tampa, I had to check it out. I have not written a review until now, because I didn't think there was anything new to add to the forum until recently. If you read the previous reviews, you will see words like 'alright' and 'decent'. I believe that the staff and management have taken this place up a couple notches from where it was when it opened a few years back. There pizza tastes the same, and I happen to be a fan of their style of crust, but it now gets out to the table consistently hot and in a timely manner. The beer selection is on par with most of the better beer bars, and they always have something new worth trying if you are busy enough to only get here every couple of weeks.

The atmosphere in this place is very hippy 60's retro with a psychedelic feel to it. Basically it's groovy man! It's also clean which is more than you can say for over 80% of the beer joints. The service is fast and pretty knowledgeable as long as you don't ask questions of many beers off menu. But they are always friendly. The selection is good with an emphasis on the more common American micros (seems like an oxymoron but true). The food is great and varied considering it's a pizza place. They have everything from vegetarian to meatball subs. They will also help you pair the beer and food. It's a chain so it won't bring in many out of towners but it's a great place to eat and drink.

I was excited to visit Mellow Mushroom here in Tampa, because I never made it to the location in Gainesville. Anyways, the atmosphere was very wacky, and hippy. The place sort of reminded me of something out of Alice and Wonderland- with the huge mushrooms. Anyways, the food was delicious and the service was pretty good. A calzone was burned by accident and our appetizers came out late, but the management didn't charge our group for any of our appetizers, which we appreciated. However, the really exciting part of this place was the beer selection. For a pizza place I didn't expect to see such a wide variety of beers on tap. They serve some of my all time favorites on draft including Stoudt's Double IPA and Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. Also they serve local beers from Dunedin Brewery. My friends and I really enjoyed being able to order Dunedin's Apricot Wheat Ale. My only minor complaint was the cost, I really wasn't paying attention to the prices of our drinks, so I'm not sure what they were charging for individual beers. But my husband and I ordered two beers each and a medium pizza and it came out to about $50. That seems a little high to me, but the pizza was great and I'm sure we'll go back again.

Had to stop in while visiting my aunt in Tampa. I love these places and have been to almost all of the ones in the southeast, which reminds me I need to do those reviews. So anyway place gets nice marks for atmosphere, as they all do. I founf the beer selection a little lacking from what I am used to in Asheville and even greenville now, but it was still fairly decent for the area. Staff was very kind and the food was great as always. Overall a pretty decent place and I am glad I stopped in. I always love their pizza and needed a quick fix.

After hearing that this place was focused on having some great beers on tap, and being a part of the "John's Locker" program from Rogue, we made the journey from St Pete to give it a shot. It's a great little funky place with a hippy theme that truly has some good taps flowing. On our first visit we sampled a number of the offerings including Shipyard Bluefin Stout, Dogfish 90 IPA, Rogue Seasonal (Santa's Reserve?) Rogues "The Reverend", Boulder's Hazed and Infused, Stoudt's Fat Dog, and Stoudt's Double IPA.

We also had some of the pizza which was very fresh and tasty.

The guys behind the bar were true beer geeks and were happy to talk about all the taps and what was coming in the next few weeks. One of the guys working at the place bought a "Randall the Enamel Animal" hop infusion filter from Dogfish, and they are trying to decide how to approach making it part of certain nights.

Prices were not bad, but more like average for the quality we found, so I have no complaints and will return when in the neighborhood, or even close.

This was my first visit to what is a fairly sizable chain of pizza places spread across a dozen states. Apparently they are all independently owned and have a varying quality of beer selections, but I must compliment the owner of this one. With 24 drafts and 30 or so bottles, the main attraction here is not so much the numbers but the quality of selection.

Of the 24 drafts, none were mainstream american macro crap, and all but five were U.S. micros and not the regular imports that usually make up a sizable portion of draft menus. As a bonus, this location is the only bay area participant in the "John's Locker" promotion of unique drafts offered by the Rogue Brewery. The selection on my visit this evening was an altbier.

What I really liked about the beer menu of both drafts and bottles was the nice variety of styles available. Lagers, lambics, strong, light, dark, fruit, smoked - they cover a lot of ground. They also featured three drafts and several more bottles from our only real local brewery - Dunedin. Great to see them giving more than token support for the hometown lable.

Food was OK, menu limited to pizza and sandwiches. The pizza I ordered was good, but what really draws me is the beer - not the food. Service was good, with the bartender eager to talk about and describe the beers.

Overall a worthwhile visit to a place that really seems eager to support craft beer - and that's always a good place to patronize in my book.

The food is pretty good though nothing you'll go crazy about. Decently priced to a little expensive overall. The draft selection is pretty solid, but it leans to safer selections. At one point when they first opened they had 7 different wheat beers on.

The staff is enthusiastic, but many don't know beer to the point that they spread disinformation about it. My favorite was the young kid that told us the Lindeman's Framboise will get you messed up with its 9% alcohol. I told him it actually had a pretty low abv and he replied...no that is the bottles...the draft is real high alcohol...yeah ok then.

But, still they do have a solid lineup of draft and even carry some big beers like Avery's The Czar Impy in bottles.

It's waaaay way out int he burbs so if you are visiting Tampa near downtown or closer to the city proper it's a long hike, but if you are visiting family in the Westchase, Carrolwood, North Town and Country or Northdale suburb areas it is worth a trip.

Craft beer and pizza are what this place is all about. While their selection is not enormous, it has plenty of quality choices in a town where "what better beers do you have?" usually results in a reply of "yeungling" or "amber bock".

A hippy/stoner theme seems to suit the mostly young staff, but patrons tend to be yuppies filtering down from Citrus Park. Ask for an unchilled glass if that sort of thing bothers you...also, I was mildly amused at drinking 90-minute out of a coors-light-emblazoned glass.

The pizza here is good, excellent for Tampa. Thin-crust but not quite NYC style, and made with spring water rather than the salty palm tree juice that comes out of our taps.

Beer selection is about 15-20 craft brews on tap with a few seasonals and a few more fizzy yellows -- bottles number about another 20-25, with more un-listed selections in a cooler at the bar.

Not bad pricing either...my first trip here found a $2 special on bottles of St. Rogue red. A nice find so close to home.
