The Weltenburger Asam Bock owes its name to the ingenious, baroque painter and master builder Cosmas Damian Asam. The malt-stressed goat exudes light roasted aromas that give a hint of coffee. Friends and connoisseurs appreciate it especially for its strong-sweet, very aromatic and persistent taste until the finish. With its 6.9% alcohol content, it is the strongest beer from the Weltenburger family.

The pour is chestnut brown colored with a fair amount of carbonation. The body is medium to heavy, & on the taste I'm getting some dark raisins, dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, & wafer biscuit. Cheers! A-

Caramel, raisin, plum, raspberry, and banana bread on the nose and palate. Well-balanced. Best enjoyed by itself.

16.9oz bottle into a pint glass. Coding no help in determining age.

Black body, deep red wine when held up to the light. Small tan head shrinks to a collar, specks of lacing. Strong aroma, hints of dark stone fruit. Taste is full, malty, lightly sweet, well balanced. Clean strong finish. Good beer.

On-tap at Prost! Boise. Very dark brown with amber highlights and a creamy off-tan head that laces well. I dig the cocoa-y notes on the nose and palate, somewhat fruity with nice hints of caramel as well. Dark chocolate…mild peppery esters…brown bread…faint, faint banana. Overall this really struck me as a classic Doppel, surprised I’ve never tried it before.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown, nearly ruby color with a moderate tan head. SRM of 23. (4.00)

Aroma: Strong aromas of brown bread, banana bread, German malt with some caramel and chocolate. (4.00)

Flavor: Strong and sweet flavors of German bread malt, bread pudding, sweet caramel, molasses, chocolate. Hints of banana bread. Finishes sweet. (4.25)

Feel: medium-bodied, average carbonation, finishes sweet. (4.00)

Compared to Weihenstephaner Korbinian 1/2023: Pours similar, stronger aromas. More caramel and chocolate. Less dark and roasted grains. Sweeter and less roasted. Winner: Korbinian

Overall: A nice and sweet Doppelbock here. Rich bread pudding, banana bread, caramel, and chocolate flavors. Hints of banana. Nice, flavorful, and leans sweet. (Rating: 4.10)

500mL bottle stamped 285MO754 (whatever that means) poured into a mug at fridge temp 7.3% ABV. The beer pours opaque dark brown with ruby highlights and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves spots of lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring sweet caramel and an earthy sweetness almost like molasses. The taste is bittersweet wet cardboard with more earthy caramel and a distinctive metallic twinge. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, good enough.

P.S. this beer actually transforms at room temperature to a collective of dark fruit and dark sugars which is quite pleasant. I would not open another of these beers at less than 55° F.

500 ml bottle
Date: 285m0750
Consumed on: 13 Nov, 2022
Glass: 0.5 L Fest Mug
ABV: 7.3%
Serving Temp: 54.9 F

Look:
Beautiful chestnut brown that shows faint mahogany highlights when held to a light. The color is dark enough to be opaque, even when held to a light, though faint outlines of my fingers can be seen then. 2+ finger creamy khaki head stays and stays, very slowly dissipating to a single finger in height. Lacing is excellent.

Smell:
Decadently rich and dark bready malts. Strong notes of semi-sweet to dark chocolate along with dark fruits such as raisins, figs, and dates. Earthy notes linger in the background.

Taste:
Follows the nose with additional notes of toffee and some caramel joining in. The earthy notes are more pronounced in the flavor, and help to balance things out quite well. The sip dries out a bit towards the end and finishes somewhat dry and bittersweet with the entire cacophony of flavors still present but very slowly fading away. A light chocolatey bitterness remains through the aftertaste.

Feel:
Very smooth and also creamy. Mouth-coating. The body is medium-full.

Overall:
And excellent doppelbock. This has ranked among my favorite doppelbocks for a long time. It is a great beer for late fall, early winter, and the Holidays.

I haven't had an Asam for a couple of years, so my rating may be a tad inflated. But only a tad. :)

500ml at 7.3%

Dark choco color, no head. Sweet scent, raisins and brown sugar. Taste hits on the chocolate/coffee/nuts trifecta, with some bubblegum, slight dry leaves, and dark fruit lurking in the background. It's hard to not chug it... High level of flavor, but still crazy drinkable

500ml bottle with some code on the label. Label states the ABV is 7.3% so it has gotten a little bump over the years. Brown color with red at the edges. A finger of dense tan head forms and has good retention. Aroma of caramel, light roast coffee, and roasted nuts. Flavor of caramel, toffee, dark fruit, musty grain, and grass. Finishes sweet but there is enough hop bitterness to make it not cloying. Rich and full body with expertly done carbonation. This is a very well brewed beer.

Bottled 10/12/21; drank 5/12/22 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dark brown appearance.

An even pour yielded a nice, noisy tan head; decent lace.

Brown sugar, raspberry & burnt wheat notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Brown sugar, burnt caramel, mild cream & faint raspberry flavors.

Robust & tasty, but easy to drink! I'd have another...
