Poured from the bottleinto a pils style glass.

A big dark chestnut brown body, with orange and red hues throughout. The red melds with the brown to make a real dark amber red it seems, like a nice stained piece of furniture. Head is supper creamy, and light tan off the pour coming out. Clumps with a perfect island ring in the center with lots of staying power, slowly settling down. Yup don't know how this gets any better, one gorgeous looking doppelbock.

The aroma is huge. Big amounts of banana and clove, almost too much and overpowering right after a pour. It settles down finally to a nice simple hint if airy malt, big dry clove character also. Surprisingly doesn't come off hugely sweet either. Very nice, with no hint of booze either.

First anticipation of the beer is something big, but the palate is more subtle. Crisp almost feel, with moderate carbonation. First flavors don't come in till the swallow, but they are extremely surprising for a bock and German beer. Huge amounts of dark fig, and raisins on the finish, with a big bready texture to match. Mid palate is slightly wet but everything comes through in coating and flavor. As it warrms the palate gets a little thin, easier for drinking, but the flavors become more subtle, bringing out more of the dryness and clove character.

A real neat tasting doppelbock, probably for me I think I like them a big maltier and bigger, but this is very impressive and an excellent beer.

Light to moderate chocolate notes. Smooth, lightly carbonated. Slightly off aftertaste though that makes this so so. The alcohol is warming and not overpowering.

A: Poured from a bottle to a mug. Had a dark brown color and a thick texture. There was an inch of foamy, off white, long-lasting head. No real lacing to speak of.

S: A nice aroma of malt, chocolate, and light hops.

T: Tasted of roasted malt, light hops, chocolate, and dark fruit. A very focused, direct and surprisingly complex flavor.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: An extremely well made, flavorful and easy to drink beer. Very well done.

This pours a dark brown color with a thick, foamy beige color. The aroma is very bold with malts. The taste is sweet, complex, and malty. There is a decent amount of carbonation mixed in with the hints of fruit and dried fruit. Very interesting taste and quite well made.
