A: Poured from a bottle to a pilsner glass. Had a brown color and a clear consistency. There was a big, creamy, long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: A very average aroma of malt and some spicy hops.

T: Tasted of heavy roasted malt, a little caramel, and some spicy hops. A big problem here is that the flavor is very thin and not at all dynamic. A bit underwhelming.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is a beer with some good qualities that doesn't quite make it. Not the worst dunkel I've had, but not the best either.

Decent Dunkel Lager. Coffee and caramel flavor. Easy to drink, not too much carbonation.

Beautiful dark auburn color with red highlights. A fine foam in the Einbecker Pilsner glass. Sudsy and luxurious on the tongue. Aroma is warm caramel and toasting grain.

Rich and sensationally roasted malty flavor. Fairly sweet, but that fades into a Some dark graininess stands out along with a mineral aftertaste. Just a kiss of hops, but the dark roast malt gives it an edge. The caramel sweetness dries out nicely for the finish. Have another gulp!

I think this is a much better than average Dunkel, with more flavor while retaining that soft, mellow sensation. This would be the one to fill your big stein with. From the 500 ml bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle.

Pours dark amber, two finger foamy head, really sticky.
Smell of toasted malts, dark fruit, nuts, faint dark chocolate, nice but pretty toned down.
Taste: dark malts, lightly roasted, a bit smoked, cocoa powder, some nice sweet chocolate, roasted nuts, orange zest and juicy dark fruit (plum, raisin). Has a nice mix of dusty and juicy notes. Noble hops in the finish, green and spicy.
Thin body, but smooth, low to medium carbonation. Refreshing.
Nice dunkel, really drinkable and rich in taste. I can see why it's got quite some awards.

500ml bottle. Mug. Bright amber color, clear appearance. Yellowish, creamy foam creates a rocky crown. A thin & lasting layer remains on top. Floral, crystal malt aromas & chocolate hues. Crispy upfront with slight sweetness & moderate toasted flavors. Light body. Moderate carbonation. Dense texture & spicy touch. Gentle chocolate, dry nut & bitter cocoa flavors in the middle linger into a dry bitter/sweet finish. Well balanced & easy drinkable beer.

(on tap at Brauhaus Schmitz - poured in dimpled mug... possibly not entirely clean, like last time)

A: hazy, reddish mid-brown... scant foam - open, sudsy bubble structure

S: fresh-ish brown bread with a minerally, toasted grape skin (mild raisin) note

T: lightly chocolaty and roasty... caramelized wood.... mild brown bread crust... malty over bitter, but a clean, polished sort of malt... almost an herbal overtone - an earthy, dried-leaf vein through it

M: fairly light and marginally smooth with a bit of a carb bite on the back end.... perhaps a tad too flat and dry?

O: I suppose fairly flavorful and a touch more complex (rough, ragged) than usual for a dunkel
