Triumph- Princeton

Pumpkin Ale

Appearance- Dark harvest brown with no hea.
Smell- Brown sugar with molassess, cinnamon, clove, and pumpkin.
Taste- Heavy on the brown sugar/ corn syrup flavor. Light clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg/ pumpkin.
Mouthfeel- Flavor is lively up front but falls flat.

Overall- A mediocre Pumpkin Ale. Nothing special here.

Purchased a growler last week while spending the day with the family. Pours a dark amber color with a off-white head (dare I say eggshell?) Carbonation not too heavy. Aroma is full of spices. Pumpkin (aduh) nutmeg, cinnamon maybe some brown sugar. Taste at first was somewhat weak. After the next taste, that is when the spices kicked in, very good. Taste was malty, pumpkin, with the above mentioned spices. Can drink this beer all night...wait, I did drink the whole growler myself..

Appearance: Amber, leaning towards copper, with a slight off-white head. Head small (likely due to the pourer), and little retention, no lacing.

Aroma: Aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg, but it doesn't overpower a good malty backbone. Malt aroma definitely closer to caramel, little pumpkin smell, but I haven't had a pumpkin beer with one. No hoppiness, but that's to be expected.

Taste: Up front caramel sweetness, which is complemented well by the spices. NOT overly spicy which is a HUGE problem with most pumpkin ales I've had. I do not want to drink a glass of cinnamon nutmeg clove juice, I want a beer, and Triumph hit this one pretty well. So well, in fact, that there was a slight pumpkin flavor, although that could have been brought out by the fact that I was drinking the beer with their butternut squash fettucini dish (unbelievable complement to the beer). I generally don't like this style, but an easy one word description is: WOW!

Mouthfeel: Light to medium in body, but not overly alcoholic, so that's ok. Carbonation typical of the brewpub.

Drinkability: Can easily act as a session beer in October and November, I may bring home a growler for Thanksgiving dinner.

Triumph on tap in New Hope.

Not a good job on this pumpkin, tasted like fake sugar and way too much pumpkin pie spice. Did not taste any real pumpkin here, not sure if they really used any but got more and more clove/sugar spice taste that really wasnt pleasant.

Arrived in a pint glass looking bronze in color with some orange highlights. Nice 3/4" head. Some decent lacing developed through the drink. The aroma was of spice and caramel. The flavor was somewhat disappointing, as the cinnamon and nutmeg seemed to dominate and the pumpkin and caramel tones were a bit laid back. This change as the beer warmed and the taste seemed to improve as time went on. Almost no bitterness with this beer.

The mouthfeel was smooth at the start and finish. The finish was long on the spice. Drinkability was average as one of these was plenty during a session.

A - great head, clear brown body.

S - vaguely of roasted and chocolate malts, malty and inviting.

T - dominated by roasted malts but still reasonably mild. Served on cask at a great temp.

M/d - very low carb but great head lasts all night. Supoer easy to drink.

It is an orange-brown color. Spices come out in the aroma, cinnamon especially. It is sweet up front and finishes with cinnamon and nutmeg. The spices play well off the malty body, but the beer is not bitter enough. If it was better balanced, this could be a much better beer.

Pours a reddish, orangish color with a nice, tight creamy white head. Its a nice pour.

Smells of pumpkin, some cinnamon and a bit earthy. I don't know if that sounds all that great but in all honesty I think it smells really good.

Tastes of natural sweet pumpkin. Not canned Libby's pumpkin, but more of the sweet, earthy gourd variety. Some nice spices (clove and cinnamon) follow and are not overpowering in the least.

Very solid. Of the three beers I had at Triumph (the others being the IPA and the Oktoberfest) this was the one I felt was the most well put together.

Sample at the Princeton location: Pours a clear reddish-orange color with a compact light beige head that burns off quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of pumpkin, malt and nutmeg. Light-bodied with mild pumpkin and cinnamon flavors, along with other spices in the background. The finish remains pumpkin-y with a short herbal aftertaste. Overall the beer is okay, albeit one-dimensional.
