Amber Ale

Appearance- ruddy brown/ red with a weak white head.
Smell- light malt and hops.
Taste- actually quite nice. Crisp with a light malty flavor.
Mouthfeel- again, like most beers from Triumph, watery and brewed for the beginners into the finer beer arena.

Overall- 1 of their better beers and was nice to sit outside near the train and drink on a sunny afternoon.

Appearance- nice rich amber look with a decent white head

Smell- small hoppy scent with some malts thrown in

Taste- lackluster, hoppier than other amber ales I've had but not that great in taste

Mouthfeel- exactly like an ale, medium bodied

Drinkability- went down easily enough, but I was expecting more from an amber ale from this brewery.

On tap at brewpub.

A- rich amber. Off white head. Lingers. Lots of lacing.

N- hops. Cascade I think. Sweet malt backbone.

T- lots of sweet malts. Some caramel and chocolate. Followed by delicious kpps.

M- amazing. Great balance of hops

D- goes down easy.

A: Poured a medium amber with a patchy white head.

S: On the nose was some cascade hop aroma of citrus and light fresh pine scents.

T: For flavor the rich caramel provides a sweet malt taste upfront with a slight hop bitter finish of citrus.

M: very light almost watery on the swallow lacking substance.

D: Easy drinkability but overall a tad thin substance wise that made for a watery and lightly flavored ale that failed to impress.

Figured I'd have to review a staple brew for review # 50, and this is definitely my Triumph default beer.

Appearance: Reddish-amber with a quarter inch off-white head. Head dissipation is quick, and leaves no lacing.

Aroma: Hops up front. Big citrus hop nose with a bit of pine in the background. Malt is present in small quantities--mostly caramel.

Taste: I love a hoppy beer which provides delicious burps. I think this is directly correlated to the freshness of the hops/brew. Definitely a strong initial grapefruit flavor with hints of pine. The beer is quite dry, but has hints of caramel maltiness. And not overly bitter.

Mouthfeel: Light body for an amber, but very refreshing. Bitter/sweet balance is near perfect.

Drinkability: Like I said, my default brew at Triumph. Light body makes it a good session beer. I'll usually try one other beer at least, and if it's not to my liking I'll go back to the amber.

I have sampled this beer many times at Triumph's brewpud in Princeton, NJ. It is a very amber pacific northwest style beer. You can definitely smell the Cascade hops in this one. Aroma is excellent with very citrusy notes. Taste is excellent with the bitter hitting you first, then the malt. Not too carbonated with works well with this sort of beer. A bit on the watery side but still well constructed beer that I always order.

pours a clear amber color with an off white colored heading that settles to a nice covering. Lacing throughout.

Smell is kind of skunky, a roasted malt aroma is present but it interuppted by the cascade hops.

Taste is very hoppy maybe a bit of an overkill for an amber ale. Also a burnt caramel taste is detected again interuppted by the hoppiness.

Mouth is medium bodied, good carbonation very smooth from the beginning but gets a little choppy towards the end.

Drinkability would be very good for a session but not that serious of a must try.

Had this on tap at the good ol' Triumph brew pub on Nassau St. in Princeton. The appearance was deep clear amber with a 1/4 inch off white head that dissipated rather quick, leaving little to no lacing. The smell was very hoppy, giving you a preview of the generous amount of Cascade hops used to brew this beer. The taste was up front citrus and cascade hops. There was also a very nice balance going on with the malt. In fact the malt/hop balance was near perfect. Mouthfeel was good, very crisp, not heavy at all. Drinkability was also good, the crispness mixed with the medium body, made for a satisfying yet very drinkable brew. All in all a very good beer. I wouldn't say it floored me, but I would say it's worth drinking again.

Part of the sampler and the second of seven I tried from Triumph on June 24th, 2003. I would have tried it either 4th or 5th in the order, but I followed the advice of the bartender and the way he laid them out. I'll know better next time.

Poured a red amber color that you would expect with a small head and fair lacing.

Aromas mostly of malt with very subtle hints of red fruit, wheat, and hops. Definite improvement over the Honey Wheat.

Taste of roasted malt with medium body and decent mouth feel. The taste and body were just a cut above average. I would have to say that overall this is a good Killian's but definately not a great Red.

First had: on tap at a friend's house

A simple well-rounded brew. Poured clear amber, moderately carbonated with a thin white head. Not much distinction in the aroma: basic malts with undertones of floral hops. Decent balance of malts and hops in the taste. Nothing special, just an average amber. Light-medium mouthfeel, and easy to drink.

Samples at the Triumph. Pours amber hue with a lively carbonation. Aroma is of cherry, caramel malt, and citrusy hops. The body is medium and quite smooth. Flavors are dominated by citrusy hops with some caramel malt and ripe fruit in the background. Long, dry finish. I’m not sure what is this brew trying to represent. .

This beer poured a amber color with some orange tones. Thin head that disappeared quickly. Very little aroma, some malt and floral tones were tough to sniff out, but a little aroma is better than none. The flavors were simple: malt, some limited bitterness, and a small hint of caramel.

The mouthfeel was somewhere between light and medium, and was smooth. Carbonation levels seemed light. Overall this beer is a little dull compared to other ambers I have tried.

a - Light amber, 1 finger head.

s - Citrus, floral hops, and slightly sweet malt.

t - Well balanced but leaning towards hops. Lightly sweet, citrus. Really tasty and a surprisingly nice interpretation of the style for a brewpub.

m/d - Light mouthfeel, not sticky. Easily sessionable, maybe the most solid beer they had on tap the night I was there.

Pours out a nice clear amber with a small white head.

smell is slightly sweet with a nice amount of hop aroma, smells like the cascades they use

Taste. it's quite nice. a nice balance between the malts and hops. Really strong on the cascade hops in this beer (compared to others in it's style). pretty good.

Mouthfeel. this was my only complaint to it. seems a little thin. lots of small carbonation to it. though balanced taste, the mouthfeel is just a little off.

Overall a quite enjoyable beer. Really like the hop amount used in this one, bit unique. Again, i just wish the mouthfeel was a little fuller
