Chilled 650ml bottle poured into a seidel.
Dark rust colored body with very firm fluffy cream of head at about 2 fingers. Head falls away to a uneven rocky like surface but remains thick and plenty of sticky lace around the glass.
The nose has strong malt aroma with fresh soft cookie or bread dough. Caramelized toffee also ties in with the malt.
Taste is jam packed with flavors that undulate as you move your way through the glass. Malt is present as one would expect given how much it dominates the aroma and the inclusion of six different malts including Munich malt.
Taste is also heavy with hops which Rogue itemize as being Willamette hops, indeed this offering is a lot more hoppier than most - which may be worth keeping in mind if hops isn't your thing. Sweet notes are also retained in the taste, especially caramel, breads, roasted nuts and linseed.
Weighted just slightly below moderate, the body is smooth and sticky with a timid amount of carbonation present.
Whilst it is not exactly an outstanding offering its is none the less a very good and drinkable ale.

I really wasn't prepared for how great of a beer this was going to be. It's rich and bitter, and is the hoppiest red ale that I've had the pleasure of imbibing.
I suppose that it's called "Santa's Reserve" because of the hops' pine notes, which are incredibly strong. It is not your typical "Christmas Beer" though, and I'd be happy drinking this all year round.
It's a home run from Rogue, and has me tracking down more of their other offerings.
