Poured from 22oz. bottle into a pint glass.
A: Beautiful dark brown amber color. Looks very high quality, amazing clarity. Solid 3 finger light tan, khaki head with nice tight tiny bubbles, nice and foamy, great lacing, but the head retention is little more than average.
S: Smells nutty, sweet, roasty, roasted malts, notes of hops, a hint of floral citrus, and of course hazelnut. Aroma is a tough on the light side, but you can definitely smell it without too much trouble. Delish!
T: Starts off almost dry and citrusy, with a bit of hops, earthy and bready on the mid palate, finishes with a decadent roasted nutty hazelnut, lightly sweet, and outstanding roasted malts and oats, chocolate, coffee, and dries up just a bit. Could use a bit more hazelnut for a hazelnut beer, but it tastes outstanding nonetheless.
M: Just the perfect amount of carbonation, nice and full bodied, chewy and sticks to the mouth, not sticky, but leaves a perfect coating. I couldn't ask for more in this department.
O: This is excellent. I like Rogue a lot. I wouldn't say this beats their Chocolate Stout in my opinion, but this is a very solid and tasty beer, amazing quality and it's been a wonderful experience to try this for the first time. I will buy this again and I will be recommending this beer with pleasure.
