Mmm hazelnuts. That is what this beer is all about. If you like hazelnuts, you should like this. Expert craftsmanship by Rogue follows in the beer overall. Buy it. (163 characters)

A: Poured into a pint glass to a light brown that's nearly translucent with a small tan head that fades quickly and leaves minimal lacing
S: smells intensely nutty and that's about it
T: taste is toasted malts and hazelnuts, some spicy hops, slight chocolate but it's mostly toasted malt and nuttiness. swallow is a little roasted malt, chocolate and more nuttiness
M: medium in body with slightly prickly carbonation and a slightly drying finish
O: A very good brown ale that has great flavors and complexity. this drinks very easily as well. If you like brown ales this one is sure to be a winner. (607 characters)

One of my absolute favorites, which is saying something considering I'm not all that fond of brown ales. Toasted hazelnut with notes of bittersweet chocolate. Incredibly smooth, incredibly tasty. (195 characters)

A: murky brown, Carmel nice head surprising for brown ale

S: a little nutty toffee smells sweet

T: pretty standard for a brown ale until you get to the finish and it has a creamy hazelnut taste that is nice

M: medium body

O: This is a pretty nice brown ale I mean you want be blown away by it but you will be satisfied and with the hazelnut finish it lets it stand a little taller than other browns (445 characters)

Appearance: Dark brown
Smell: Malts and caramel
Taste: Slight hops and malts
Mouthfeel: Light bodied
Drinkability: A pleasant beer but not as good as I expected. Not saying I was disappointed, I was just expecting better. I would drink again if offered, I simply would not seek this beer out..

Appearance: Pours pleasant dark brown with minimal head, fine brown foam which resolves quickly to lace and then none. Min to none carbonation.

Smell: Malty, nutty/hazelnut aroma, toasted malt/caramel with hint of dark raisin

Taste: Toasted malts at front of sip, followed by hazelnut and hint of hops with a pleasant clean finish, woody with some dried plum. Not syrupy despite the maltiness

Mouth feel: Very light body, a little surprising was its near absence of carbonation? As a previous reviewer mentioned, gave one the impression of flat soda. . . not bad, but a little jarring.

Drink-ability: a different take on the brown ale which was quite pleasant and quaffable. I would purchase again, though I wouldn’t go out of my way to find this beer. (762 characters)

Pours an amzing deep reddish brown color with decent head and lacing, not a lot. Aroma is not exceptionally strong, but the nuttiness and male sweetness comes across quite well and subtlely. Taste has a bit of bitter kick to it, but balances pretty well with the roasted malts and nuts. Good brown ale that is drinkable and not overpowering. (341 characters)

A. Light poor ½ tan head. Light carbonation. Color brown/ amber.
S. Hazelnut, apple, citrus, stout.
T. A wall of hazelnut, coffee stout.
M. Watery, crisp, slightly sticky.
O. Very good I enjoyed it very much. The down falls of this beer is that the mouth feel is very watery. Definitely try this one. (301 characters)

05/09/12 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. Tried as black & tan w/Rogue Chocolate Stout. Called a "Snikers" it had plenty of hazelnut. Not bad. Now I need to taste it au natural (172 characters)

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a mug

A: Pours a brownish mahogany color with a 2 finger, off white head.

S: Smell is very strongly of hazelnuts. Also caramel, with some bits of toffee and brown sugar
coming through. The smell of this beer is phenomenal.

T: This beer has a nutty taste to it that consists of roasted malts, hazelnuts, and toffee flavors.
The hazelnut isn't nearly as strong as it is on the nose, but it is definitely present upon
taking a large sip. As the beer warms no new flavors are perceived.

M: The mouthfeel of this beer was pretty light. Thin, almost watery in a way. There was
a decent amount of carbonation which helped to liven the beer somewhat, but to be honest I was
a bit disappointed in the mouthfeel.

O: Overall this beer wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anything too special. The smell was unbelievable, the taste was ok, but then I was let down by the mouthfeel. Maybe I'm used to drinking beers that are a bit more full bodied, or maybe I'm just not a huge fan of this beer; I don't know. I would drink it again, I just wouldn't be in any hurry to do so. (1,095 characters)

Purchased bomber from Shoppette on Kadena, Okinawa, Japan.

P - The beer is poured furiously which creates two fingers of head that wilt into nothing leaving the beer completely unprotected from my mouth.
S - Brown sugar and mild amber malts off the nose.
T - Taste is slightly sweet, again brown sugar, then a hint of bitter bark. The hazelnut nectar addition does lend influence to both the nose and the palate and is noticeable throughout the beer.
B - Medium bodied, mild small bubble carbonation and a lingering hazelnut like after taste.

Overall a nice ABA, fits the style in a delicious manner. I could see this in a pitcher for my friends while bowling or playing pool. Very easy to drink, quaffable and mild.

An imperial Xmas version of this would be rocking. Some spices and higher abv... Rogue are you listening? (832 characters)

Had this beer on tap at the Yardhouse last night.Very light and easy to drink with a strong nutty taste to it.It had a fruit taste to it although it`s hard to identify what it is.I have to say I like it very much.I have had a couple of Rogue beers with mixed luck but I would say this is Second best to the Chocolate Stout. At 6.2ABV I would say its a Semi-functional beer.Give it a try. (386 characters)

This is a pretty tasty brew—sweet, but with a very mild hop character appropriate for a brown. That said, I feel like I could probably grab any decent brown, add a little hazelnut extract (which, as they state on the bottle, is how they get the hazelnut flavor) and end up with basically exactly this. (303 characters)

A: [2.75] No head formation. The color is a dark brown - like root beer - with a slight reddish cast. The bottle does not indicate ABV or IBU. There is some born on code on the bottom - but I am not sure what it means.

S: [4.00] Toffee, brown sugar some coffee.Slight hint of hard apple cider. The overall smell is pleasant.

T: [3.75] Caramel and toffee. The caramel that is on caramel apples. Biscuity breadiness.

M: [4.00] It is much creamier and "thick" than I anticipated. I thought it would be thin and watery. It has a nice body to the beer. Carbonation is totally in check.

O: [3.75] There is no sense of alcohol (I would guess ~5.5% ABV). This is a sweet and mellow bodied beer. It has a unique flavor profile. The flavor is robust and caramelized. I really liked it. (794 characters)

Nice smooth beer. Tastes well...refreshing. I would feel pretty good about giving this to my friends at a party. It's not the best beer but will holds its ground. (166 characters)

Poured from a 22 ounce Bomber, light brownish caramel color. The head was very thin and vanished quickly. The aroma was very light, hinting at hops and nuts.
This is a mild tasting beer, clean with a nutty finish.
I will have this again. (239 characters)

Clear mahogany pour with a one finger beige head with decent retention and nice lacing. The nose is earthy and nutty with hints of caramel, brown sugar, hazelnut, and subtle cocoa. The taste is toasty and nutty with hints of brown sugar, caramel, hazelnut, coffee, burnt toast, vanilla, tea, and subtle cocoa. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with slightly elevated carbonation, but a bit thin for the style. Overall, flavorful and very drinkable and worth revisiting. (472 characters)

Haven't had this one in over five years so it's as good a time as any to return. Beer pours a dark color with a thin fizzy tan head. Nice nutty aroma, with hints of coffee. Sweet flavor on the palette but not too sweet, nutty caramel and toffee flavors. Smooth and unobtrusive mouth feel. An outstanding beer in an under appreciated style, would definitely recommend anytime, but especially as a lighter desert style beer. (422 characters)

Heard great things about this beer so decided to give it a shot. Here goes:

A: OK, not good or bad. Beer pours an opaque brown; no light gets through. Very little head and moderate lacing.

S: Wow, simply outstanding. Can detect nutmeg, nutella, hazelnut, peanut butter and chocolate. Very little hops, however; this is a pure malt brew.

T: Taste follows the nose. Again, it's outstanding. Lots of nutella, hazelnut, peanut butter, chocolate, etc. The beer is a pure malt brew; I can't really detect any hops.

M: Very good but nothing special. Somewhat creamy but not very much so.

O: An excellent brown ale. Lots of nuts and chocolate. Would highly recommend it. (667 characters)

12 oz bottle was poured into a shaker glass at Parish Cafe on Boylston.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger whitish brown head that reduced to a thin layer. It is an amber brown color with some vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Toasted malts, roasted, hazelnut, a little chocolate, and some sweetness.

Taste: Hazelnut, toasted, chocolate, some sweetness, mild bitterness, and earthy notes..

Mouthfeel: Smooth, a little chewy, light to medium bodied, low to medium carbonation, and slight bitterness.

Overall: Awesome brown ale. Will be enjoying this one again in the near future. (667 characters)

Appearance is a clear dark brown with a two if her light brown head.
Aroma is caramel, nutty, pecan pie, toffee
Taste follows the nose but in a lighter, watered down way.
Nice malt balance but great rich nutty flavors come through.
Mouthfeel is pretty carbonated and medium to thin.
Overall it's probably my favorite rogue beer and is drink it again. (350 characters)

A personal favorite of mine. The appearance is a dark brown with a very thick head. The smell is great with sweet notes from the malt paired with the earthy tones from the hazelnuts. The taste is great, with such a delicious combination of sweetness and heavy nuttiness. It works well as both a desert beer as well as something to drink with spicy food. The mouthfeel is just the right thickness for me, has a big body but is not syrupy. Love this one. (452 characters)

Pours a dark brown color with a one finger tan head and great lacing. Aroma is hazelnut and chocolate. Taste is a basically the same as the aroma. Great mouthfeel. This beer is a little on the sweet side, but overall, I really enjoyed this beer and will definitely buy again . (276 characters)

Appearance- Amber brown with barely a finger of head.

Aroma-Sweet chocolate, nutty, and coffee scents.

Taste- The hazelnut is the dominant feature, but that isn't a bad thing by any means. The hazelnut is accompanied by some milk chocolate, coffee, and honey.

Feel-Very malty which leads to a somewhat sticky feel, but nothing that lingers. Full bodied beer with little carbonation.

Overall-Very good beer thats perfect for those with a sweet tooth when it comes to beers. Personally this is too sweet for me to frequently have, but it certainly will be a top choice for a dessert beer in the future. (606 characters)

Bottle bought from the local supermarket

Had high hopes for this as really enjoyed the chocolate stout

As soon as I popped it had a bit of froth rising wanting to get out

Medium brown/sight tinge of red with a finger of head that settles quite quickly

Smells.. this is where the disappointment started for me. No real hazlenut notes here. Vaguely remember a homebrew kit that smelt very close to this. Nothing spacial.

Taste.. much the same. Getting a slight hazelnut taste here and a good finish. Quite abrupt.

Not a bad drop but expected more from a rogue beer after tasting their chocolate stout. Will definitely be buying more of their beers just not this one. (670 characters)
