Appearance: decent clarity, murky brown with red hues, very little head, tan head

Aroma: slight hazelnut aroma that is subtle and not overwhelming with some bready notes and sweet molasses like aroma

Taste: a nice brown ale with bready and molasses notes, and a nice hazelnut flavor that lasts through the finish

Mouthfeel: Smooth, very drinkable, not thick or chewy, low carbonation, medium body

Overall: A nice quaff that utilizes molasses, bready, and hazelnut flavors to deliver a very drinkable and delicious drink. An interesting beer to pair with food because of nutty/sweet/bready flavors.

This beer was just not up my alley. The appearance was a amber brown clear with some head, little retention and not much lacing. It smells quite good, malty caramel, nutty, little orange blossom maybe.

Taste wise, though, it starts out sweet, nutty, with a taste of honey, but turns bitter more like an ESB than I would care to have with such a malty start. There is a little puckering of the tongue at this for mouthfeel, but overall it doesn't suit my tastes.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours a hazy dark brown with a bubbly two finger tan head on top. Beautiful beer. Head leaves some nice lacing down the glass and dissipates into a thin layer over the beer.

At first sniff I pick up some malt sweetness. Maybe roasted. Hazelnut comes through on the end. Some slight earthy tones from the hops. But it's very sweet smelling. Nice.

Tastes like hazelnut. Really sweet as soon as it hits your tongue. As the flavor progresses you pick up some malt flavors and some earth tones from the hops. Maybe some burnt caramel. Very good beer.

Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Coats your mouth with some earth notes from the hops.

Overall this is a great beer. Love the look, smell, and taste. Would definitely buy/drink again.

A winter seasonal with 180 calories per bottle and 6% ABV. 2011 & 2012 Gold Metal Winner at the Americas Beer Festival under the Specialty Beer Category. I really enjoyed the color, the brown ale style, and the compliment of the hazelnut flavor. This would be the first I tried with the hazelnut flavor and had mixed opinion at first, but after trying I would highly recommend and definitely keep my eye-out to try again. This is a great beer to keep an eye out for as a winter seasonal. I would highly recommend and buy again.
