Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a TBBC pint glass.

A: Pours a somewhat dark brown with hints of red, with a thin white head and minimal visible carbonation.

S: Sweet, honey, some spices, some roasted malts, and an underlying dry fruity aroma that I can't quite place.

T: Brown malts, hints of cardboard, some nuttiness, and a general sweet character. Roasted honey flavors at the end.

M: Thin body but acceptable for style. Medium carbonation sensation, and a mild alcohol presence.

O: This is an OK beer, but nothing I'd seek out. I'm not a huge hazelnut fan in general though - I got this beer in a raffle - probably wouldn't have picked it out from a store.

Rogue hazelnut brown nectar is one of my favorite beers to date. I have tried this one twice, both times in bombers. Would love to see it on tap somewhere but haven't yet. I live in St. Louis, MO and have tried this beer both times as a store bought purchase.

I am a fan of dark beer, primarily stouts, but I love a good brown and this one is tasty and complex. The interesting thing is that the hazelnut flavor creeps up on you almost as an aftertaste, and lingers, becoming sweeter on the palate.

I taste a good deal of honey by the end. I assume this is where the word "nectar" makes its debut, as the beer finishes with a honeyed sweetness. It's not like mead, which is sharp and almost too sweet at times. The hazelnut tempers the nectar flavor, making it warm and cozy. It's a perfect beer for autumn or winter, at a nice old tavern with wood floors and a fire. If it were a color, it would be the color of teak beams lit up a sweet tan in the glinting rays of the setting sun.

It's a lovely experience, and one of which I think I would never tire.

APPERANCE:
Dark, almost black color with some ruby highlights. Tight off white head that lingers down to about half an inch

SMELL:
Fragrant roasted nut aroma, which pretty much dominates the aroma profile. Smell reminds me of a milk tea place I frequent. Very unique and "homey" smell, and makes you feel the same way a whiff of coffee in a cafe does

TASTE:
The roasted nutty nose carries through the palate and is the first thing you taste, lasting all throughout until the finish. Some dark bread and caramel sweetness pops out in the background, a hint of pepper spice, warming alcohol. It has an earthy tone to it. Herbal hoppiness is only apparent in the aftertaste. Finish is not as dry, with a herbal, earthy, nuttiness lingering in your tongue afterwards

MOUTHFEEL:
Heavy mouthfeel with a syrupy feel to it, which accentuates the earthiness even more. Carbonation is subdued but can be felt

OVERALL:
A very predominantly nutty brown ale. The unique roasted nut note is pretty much the star here, reducing everything else to faint hints. The flavor is to my liking but I found it just a tad too dominant. I would've love some more balance here. Nevertheless, a good solid brew. It's a good substitute for coffee beers, sipping one away amongst intelligent conversation
