Holy CRAP. This is beer?!?

Well, I popped down 6 dollars for a bomber of this stuff. I figured its always worth it to try a stone or rogue offering.

Pours a dark brown, chestnut, truly the definition of brown. Tan head dissapates into nothing for whatever reason. Little to no spotty lacing. This beer isn't much for retention, but the color is nice.

Nose is Hazelnut (well of course) smooth lightly toasted malts. Very brown ale esque.

Hits the palate at first with a very smooth malt presence. As it envelopes the mouth the hazelnut nuances come in, with hints of toffee. The beer would be cloyingly sweet if not for the assertive bitterness that rounds it out. Alcohol warms a bit on the way down. This is a balanced beer, which I'm beginning to think is a specialty of Rogue.

Smooth and creamy, medium to thick bodied, with fairly big carbonation. Goes down nicely, and rather drinkable. Sexy.

Appearance – Dark nut brown body. Brown head that is foamy and does not retain or lace well.

Smell – As usually my weakest department. Some sweet malts and roasted hazelnuts.

Taste – Awesome. Nutty to the extreme. Some sweet malts. Roasted flavors. Honey sweet finish.

Mouthfeel – Thick and full body. Low carbonation is dead on. Enough hops leave a fresh feeling.

Drinkability – Rogue made a simple style into a “big beer.” Great flavor, high drinkabilty.

Dark reddish copper with a medium-small, pillowy, light tan, slowly diminishing head. Like the bottle says, there’s lots of nuts in the nose. Moderately sweet-smelling and malty, with aromas of chocolate, juicy hops, a little spice, and a bit of dark fruit. The taste is sweet and all about the hazelnut. Supporting cast of bready malts, light cherry and wood. It has a medium body, VERY smooth texture and soft carbonation. This is an impressive easy-drinker. And interesting little twist on the style. Certainly worth trying.
