This was a great beer. The hazelnut flavor is hard to miss - in a good way. Even without the hazelnut it would be a quality ale on the darker side. It is a bit foamy at the start, good carbonation, very smooth to the last drop. Aftertaste has a bit of caramel. I'll get this one again.

Pours a hazy copper/brown with a half inch white head which laced the glass and lasted a long time. Smells of malts, nuts, and a caramel like sweetness and the taste follows pretty closely. A nutty flavor with a sweet finish of malts and caramel.

This wouldn't ordinarily be my style of beer, but Rogue gets the hazelnut parts of it right. It smells and tastes faintly sweet, but not in an overpowering manner, and it finishes smooth. It's a beautiful chocolate brown color as well.

12 oz bottle with no date poured into pint glass. Deep maroon color with small head leaves mild lacing. Smell is nuts in my face. Taste in same with wet dog. My taste buds are weird. Wish the feel was creamier. Ok beer, Idk why it's rated so well. Cheers!

Delicious. Great tea color. Brown sugar, honey, hazelnut, and graham crackers on the nose. Sweet carbonated light syrup on the tongue. It's a beautiful thing.

On draft at the local BJ's. Nice dark brown color with a creamy light brown head. Good caramel taste, a bit sweet with a pleasant after taste. I do not get many Rouge beers , but I did enjoy this beer.

Red in color, nice head.
Subtle baked-goods nose.
Typical brown ale taste quickly followed by dry, pleasant nutmeg flavor and other notes. A little sweet, but balanced nicely. Aftertaste quickly subsides into a dry mouthfeel.
Half way through, it became VERY nutty.

Pours a deep red brown. Clear. About a half inch of off white head. Man that's a good brown. You can taste the nuts in it. Smooth finish with a little lacing.

A - Copper brown clouded. White head. Not much lacing.

S - Nutty malt. Caramel bread. Slight grass and grain.

T - Following the nose, but full and bright, with a strong brown bread quality. Nutty sweetness. And a slight bitter nip in the close.

M - Drying in the close, but crisp and moderate feel.

O - A rock solid brown. Brilliant balance. One of the true signs that Rogue truly deserves its place in the craft pantheon. A brown worthy of the highest praise.

Clear brown pour with almost no head. For an extract-added concoction, the aroma is a little weird - hazelnut, yes, but also a strange chemically smell. Flavor is much better - lots of nut and some sweet malt. Pretty tasty stuff. Fairly smooth, and nice aftertaste.

Poured room temperature (77°F)from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
LOOK: Pours with a finger's worth of a khaki foam head that subsides into a line within 30 seconds. Dark brown in color with a gorgeous ruby tint. Bubbles are subtle as they rise.
SMELL: Mild aromas of hazelnut combine with slightly less mild aromas of toffee, chocolate, and caramel along with a hints of coffee (roasted malts), spicy hops, and floral hops.
TASTE: Upon first sip, strong flavors of hazelnut are met with mild flavors of spicy hops. Mild choclate flavors and subtle floral hop flavors enter the palate right after. As all flavors equally and gradually fade from the aftertaste, my tongue is left searching for the coffee, toffee, and caramel flavors that my nose had smelled. That was quite disappointing.
FEEL: This is rather light-bodied (that sucks) with almost no carbonation (that doesn't suck). This goes down incredibly smooth and has the most thirst-quenching finish I have ever had in a beer.
NOTE: I chose to drink this at room temperature because at room temperature, whether American or English, Brown Ales taste better to me. I'll try it cold next time and see if those missing flavors pop up.

Poured from a bottle into pint glass in July 2015.

Appearance: Dark amber with tan head. Head is very thick and sticks to the glass.

Smell: Sweet with a little hopiness mixed in. Nice aroma of roasted malts.

Taste: Nice mix of flavors such as malt, nuts, and sweetness from honey or molasses. There is a little hops , and some roasted coffee flavors for a contrast.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Nice Brown Ale. It had nice variety of flavors. Definitely one of the best brown ales I have tried.

From bottle, Pours a light brown with a nice tan head. Hazelnut and caramel malt on the nose. An excellent beer. Roasted hazelnut does not take away from the damn fine brown it’s built on.

Nice dark brown appearance. A little dull and metallic on the nose. Pick up on the hazlenut and an almost milky sweetness. Taste is a nice balance of caramel, hazelnut, and slight coffee. This beer was pretty good and definitely one of the better brown ales I've had. Creamy and easy drinking. Reminded me a bit of a milk stout in certain ways. Maybe a bit thin. Could've been bolder with the hazelnut.

L: Hazy brown, light tan head, which fades quickly

S: Hazelnut of course, sweet

T/F: slightly bitter, yet sweet, hazelnut. Medium feel.

O: Liked it a lot

Reviewed 5-17-15. Water goblet. No date on bottle?

Appearance: Pours a cloudy, medium brown with 1/2 finger light tan head, which fades quickly. Lots of sediment left in the bottle. Some minor visible carbonation, little retention, no lacing.

Aroma: Whoa! Hazelnuts, sweet, honey. This is over the top nutty. I don't really care for hazelnuts, so this is quite noticeable to me.

Taste: Clean, mild arrival, slightly sweet across mid-palate - that's where the hazelnut starts - hazelnut through the finish. Slight bitterness at the end. Markedly sweeter as it warms.

Mouthfeel: Middle-midweight. Solid but not excessive carbonation. Not very slick.

Overall: A really excellent American brown ale, but for its trademark characteristic of hazelnuts. I'll pass, thanks the last beer I had containing nuts didn't really taste like nuts). Maybe Rogue makes another brown without hazelnuts?

Not my favourite style, but a good version of it. Nice nuttiness and a smooth roasted profile. The malts have good depth but I always wish that beers like this had a slightly more hoppy finish to really exhibit and enhance the malts.

355ml bottle from Whole Food Market, Giffnock:
A real surprise to me, unusual but highly drinkable with a solid hazelnut & plenty of sweetness. The balance was good & the beer smooth,a really impressive offering from a beer I wasn't particularly looking forward to either.

dark brown, almost opaque in color, with a thin tan head. Smells sweet & nutty. As advertised, you can pick out the hazelnut very easily. Not my favorite Brown Ale - I'd rather drink an Ellie's Brown. Overall though, not a bad beer for something a little different.

Undated bottle into pint glass. Clear amber brown with off-white head. Coffee and hazelnut, with a slightly bitter finish. Hazelnut becomes more apparent with each sip. Medium mouthfeel with a significant amount of carbonation. Probably the best of the limited number of brown ales I've tried.

Perhaps I'm biased but unless you hate hazelnuts, this is among the best brown ales around. Great nut aroma and balanced palate make this an enjoyable experience for any brown lover.

Poured from 355ml into a pint. Thanks to my brother for this bday brew!

L: Spot color for an American brown. Shoe leather that has a hint of translucent red.

S: Coffee grinds, sweet hazelnut, very sweet. It's almost got a yeasty banana smell to it, again very sweet

T: Sassafras accompanies the above flavors, save for the yeasty bit is gone. More earth tones, and there's some bitterness in the finish that makes this brew less sweet than it smells.

F: More carbonated than most Browns I've tried, but that's not a bad thing. Mouthfeel is that of that watered down soda you left in the car before you ran into the store.

O: The smell had me worried, but this beer wasn't too sweet. It's a very complex and drinkable brown that'd I'd get again. Reminiscent of a lighter Sam Smiths.

Poured from a bomber on a Sunday evening, after a long day. Poured into a English Tulip Pint style glass. Very Pleasing

Appearance: Poured an amber to ruby brown with an approximate SRM of 18-22. Great frothy off-white/light brown head. Excellent head retention which remained for the duration of the beer. Slight bit of lacing down the glass.

Aroma: Definitely lots of caramel and toasted notes; certainly the most dominating aroma. Somewhat of a sweet malty/caramel smell to it. A definite, slight Hazlenut character on the nose. Certainly other nutty characters as well.

Taste: Much less sweet than the smell would indicate. Reminiscent of root beer when it comes to flavour and carbonation, just without the heavy sweetness. Analogous to the nose, it has plenty of caramel and toasted notes to it. Under no circumstances is this a hoppy beer, but the sweetness is absolutely balanced by the bitterness. A somewhat light Hazlenut/nut taste during the first half of the glass, that tends to intensity with drinking.

Mouthfeel: Nicely carbonated. Not too flat like many English Browns can be. Has adequate carbonation to make it lively enough to make it interesting. A solid, moderate to high body for this almost-traditional Brown Ale.

Overall: A definitely respectable interpretation of the the English Brown Ale classic. The Hazelnut character is an excellent addition to this well-bodied beer. Nice caramel flavour with good malt complexity. Balanced nicely, but still being on the maltier side, just like the style. A contrasting aroma to the flavour profile. Very good beer. If you like English Browns, you'll love this beer. Certainly one of the better Brown Ales I've had.

Nice looking, hazy with a perfect smell. The hazelnut flavor is slightly there on the back end which makes this a bit unique. Not much for bitterness (which i love). A very easy drinking brown. I would drink it again.

Very good Brown Ale. Not the best I've had. Mad Monk (defunct) out of Ohio was the best Nut Brown I've ever had. But very good...great head, good aroma, very good flavor. Definitely top 3 brown ales I've had.
