Poured bottle into snifter. Head takes a moment to form, then fades, leaving webbing like the peel of an orange.

Smells like whole wheat bread, nuts. A little cherry and molasses.

Taste: Nuts, sweet liquid bread (hey, its beer), light roasted malts. Hops are minor.

Mouth is smooth. You're left with a "I ate a handful of nuts" taste."

A little sweet, but bready. One of the best smelling beers I've encountered. Really good.

Pours an amber colour, with a small white head that fades soon, leaving a ring and lace. Smell of chocolate, spices, cherries, nuts. Medium body and average carbonation. Taste of chocolate, cherries, hints of nuts.

Appearance: Quite a dark mahogany brown with an off white head only and inch thick.

Aroma: Some chocolate malts with notes of chocolate licorice. Light molasses, roasted hops, nuttiness, caramel notes round it out.

Taste: Well this one quite a wave of chocolate licorice in the front with a smooth mouthfeel. Hops are roasted along with a malts which give it a nice malty backbone. Molasses makes it's presence know with some toffee notes in the back.

Notes: A very solid American Brown ale top to bottom. Cheers.

Cold 12oz bottle poured in a glass.

A: Pours a red-brown with a thin head, white in color. Somewhere between a coke and iced tea in color when held to the light.

S: I get a cherry, vanilla, caramel smell to it.

T: Slight bitterness to start with carbonation that finishes smooth and on the sweet side but not so sweet that it is a dessert beer. Really fun twist on a brown ale (think adding creamer to a black coffee.)

M: Smooth brown ale with flavor. I'd say medium body.

O: Fantastic brown! Traditional brown, smooth (overall) and malty that gives it a great flavor and slight sweetness. One of my favorites and can be enjoyed year 'round!

Light brown with a small amount of tan foam. Smells of brown sugar and carbon and mineral. The taste also has the brown sugar sweetness, but it is a bit more overwhelming here. A tangy rich earthy and nutty creamyness builds and finishes medium dry. I don't quite know what to say here. This beer is kind of tasty, but at the same time just bizarre. The nut notes are oily and unnatural feeling, syrupy and all around just too much. How the hell do they extract hazelnut (a solid) into beer (a liquid)? On top of that, I found it a little too sweet.

12 oz bottle left in the fridge for months after the rest of the case had been consumed.

An enjoyable enough brew, but I feel as if anything I say is going to come off as a backhanded compliment. There's an interesting tangy quality which I presume to be the hazelnut (however it is achieved) that certainly sets it apart from other brown beers. It's clean and refreshing, only an understated fruitiness and a pleasant enough aftertaste and tingly sensation on the tongue. I could easily drink these one after another and have in the past. It comes across more as a lager than as an ale, which is the way I generally prefer my beers - I'm not big on esters and fruity flavors. And defying categorization in general is a plus - I ascribe when I can to the "Beer is Beer" notion and this certainly fits the bill - and calling it an "American Brown Ale" in recognition of the spirit of independence it evokes is appropriate.

The dude on the label is about as 'rogue' as I am, to boot...

I have a soft spot for this beer....one of the first craft brews I got into. Still enjoyed with fond nostalgia. Deep brown/caramel in color. Looks like melted English toffee. Hazelnut coffee creamer on the nose. Nice mix of creamy nut and a faint hint of an old school brown ale. Enough layers to avoid this being a one note ale.

Had last night at Eli's in Branford. Pours a nice ruby color, slightly dark, with not much head or lacing. Smell is pretty muted, stirring up the bubbles I get a little nutty sweetness, some ale yeast too. Taste starts with a blast of sweetness and a big hazelnut syrup note, like the coffee creamer, very artificial. Ends bitter, a hint of roasted malt, slightly astringent. Feel is sticky, body is on the heavier side of medium. Overall, after reading the reviews I was excited to try this, what could be better than a rich brown ale with a nice nutty backbone? Turns out this is hazelnut syrup infused amber ale. Very weak brown ale with too much hazelnut flavor.

Some sweet nectary goodness. Pours light brown. Has a nice hoppy smell. Has a nice hazelnut taste with a little bit of a hoppy bite at the end. Body was not too think or too thin. It was just right. Couldn't get enough of it.

Poured from tap, cloudy hazy light brown. No head to sprak of. Faint nose of nut and hop, but a quick swirl yeilds tight fizzy head and soft sweet but aroma. Initial taste is mild malt with hazelnut tone, finishing with harsh CO2 bite and subtle hop. One more spin reduces CO2 to more acceptable level.
Nothing over the top here, but I think that's a win with hazelnut. Very drinkable.

Nice copper brown color, very thin head and disappear quite fast, never imagine that hazelnut taste and blend with beer this good. About right carbonation for me, not that sweet, nicely bitter after taste.

The flavor of the beer is so much more complex than the aroma would have you believe. It's thinner for me than its flavor profile would suggest, but this is a novelty beer from Rogue that is actually pretty tasty.

This was a great beer. The hazelnut flavor is hard to miss - in a good way. Even without the hazelnut it would be a quality ale on the darker side. It is a bit foamy at the start, good carbonation, very smooth to the last drop. Aftertaste has a bit of caramel. I'll get this one again.

Pours a hazy copper/brown with a half inch white head which laced the glass and lasted a long time. Smells of malts, nuts, and a caramel like sweetness and the taste follows pretty closely. A nutty flavor with a sweet finish of malts and caramel.

This wouldn't ordinarily be my style of beer, but Rogue gets the hazelnut parts of it right. It smells and tastes faintly sweet, but not in an overpowering manner, and it finishes smooth. It's a beautiful chocolate brown color as well.

12 oz bottle with no date poured into pint glass. Deep maroon color with small head leaves mild lacing. Smell is nuts in my face. Taste in same with wet dog. My taste buds are weird. Wish the feel was creamier. Ok beer, Idk why it's rated so well. Cheers!

Delicious. Great tea color. Brown sugar, honey, hazelnut, and graham crackers on the nose. Sweet carbonated light syrup on the tongue. It's a beautiful thing.

On draft at the local BJ's. Nice dark brown color with a creamy light brown head. Good caramel taste, a bit sweet with a pleasant after taste. I do not get many Rouge beers , but I did enjoy this beer.

Red in color, nice head.
Subtle baked-goods nose.
Typical brown ale taste quickly followed by dry, pleasant nutmeg flavor and other notes. A little sweet, but balanced nicely. Aftertaste quickly subsides into a dry mouthfeel.
Half way through, it became VERY nutty.

Pours a deep red brown. Clear. About a half inch of off white head. Man that's a good brown. You can taste the nuts in it. Smooth finish with a little lacing.

A - Copper brown clouded. White head. Not much lacing.

S - Nutty malt. Caramel bread. Slight grass and grain.

T - Following the nose, but full and bright, with a strong brown bread quality. Nutty sweetness. And a slight bitter nip in the close.

M - Drying in the close, but crisp and moderate feel.

O - A rock solid brown. Brilliant balance. One of the true signs that Rogue truly deserves its place in the craft pantheon. A brown worthy of the highest praise.

Clear brown pour with almost no head. For an extract-added concoction, the aroma is a little weird - hazelnut, yes, but also a strange chemically smell. Flavor is much better - lots of nut and some sweet malt. Pretty tasty stuff. Fairly smooth, and nice aftertaste.

Poured room temperature (77°F)from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
LOOK: Pours with a finger's worth of a khaki foam head that subsides into a line within 30 seconds. Dark brown in color with a gorgeous ruby tint. Bubbles are subtle as they rise.
SMELL: Mild aromas of hazelnut combine with slightly less mild aromas of toffee, chocolate, and caramel along with a hints of coffee (roasted malts), spicy hops, and floral hops.
TASTE: Upon first sip, strong flavors of hazelnut are met with mild flavors of spicy hops. Mild choclate flavors and subtle floral hop flavors enter the palate right after. As all flavors equally and gradually fade from the aftertaste, my tongue is left searching for the coffee, toffee, and caramel flavors that my nose had smelled. That was quite disappointing.
FEEL: This is rather light-bodied (that sucks) with almost no carbonation (that doesn't suck). This goes down incredibly smooth and has the most thirst-quenching finish I have ever had in a beer.
NOTE: I chose to drink this at room temperature because at room temperature, whether American or English, Brown Ales taste better to me. I'll try it cold next time and see if those missing flavors pop up.

Poured from a bottle into pint glass in July 2015.

Appearance: Dark amber with tan head. Head is very thick and sticks to the glass.

Smell: Sweet with a little hopiness mixed in. Nice aroma of roasted malts.

Taste: Nice mix of flavors such as malt, nuts, and sweetness from honey or molasses. There is a little hops , and some roasted coffee flavors for a contrast.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Nice Brown Ale. It had nice variety of flavors. Definitely one of the best brown ales I have tried.
