A: Sort of an amber rootbeer color with a stillness to it. Head is full and pronounced; a good inch tall of sandy beige bubbles

S: The beer reeks of hops. Grassy grapefruit, caramel orange, sugar snap peas and a touch of pine.

T: Starts off with spicy red fruits across the front of the tongue. Some boring buttery caramel taste that seems to lay the foundation as the malt backbone arrive next. Subdued grapefruit rind comes across very resiny but not overly flavorful. As the bitterness lingers toasted grains with a honey roundness moves this towards the end. Unfortunately, among the flavors a metallic twinge comes across, almost ruining the beer. Finishes sort of grainy with moments of bitter citrus and earthy dirtyness.

M: Medium body, full mouthfeel with just a touch of carbo sting.

D: I got to be honest here, I was expecting a lot more. I won’t call it a let down but…ok, I will call it a let down. This could have been so much better IMO, especially from a brewery like Rogue. I guess I just found it a bit boring.

330mL bottle, BB date June 2014. Got it just in time!

A - attractive burgundy colour, pours a thick frothy head that fades into a lumpy pale brown lacing.

S - floral (lavender) hops and resin, with a strong honey/molasses whiff.

T - dry hopping is apparent straight away - strong hoppy bitterness with flavours of pine and faint caramel and roasted malt backdrop. Bitterness slightly edges the malts in this one.

M - medium carbonation, dry texture, light to medium body. crisp finish.

O - nice mix of roasted malts and dry hopping, would easily drink again.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy deep reddish copper color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, caramel, toast, biscuit, floral, grass, pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus hop and dark/bready malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, caramel, toast, biscuit, floral, grass, light pine, light toffee, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, caramel, toast, biscuit, floral, grass, light pine, light toffee, and floral/toast earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance and solid robustness of citrus hop and dark/bready malt sweetness; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice and pleasant amber ale. Good balance of citrus hop and dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
