Picked up a 22 oz. after a four and a half hour class tonight. Hoping this will be better than the last Rogue I had: yellow Snow Ale.
This one poured with lots of carbonation. Nice big brown/grey head that settled nicely. Not much to the aroma- smelled like wet coffee grounds, but not strong.
Taste was uneven at first. Couldn't really get any complex "jump out at ya" flavors. Lots of heavy roasty flavors, but a bit thin for me. However, as I drank this beer, it settled down a bit, and I was able to pick out some faint coffee, with a straw finish. Mouthfeel was sticky as all get out.
Not a bad beer, but definately not as smooth as the Shakesphere Stout.
Side note: I'm heading out to Hookahville tomorrow afternoon, and will be sampling some nice Bells, DFH, Bluegrass Brewing Company, and Founders to mention a few. Should be some good reviews coming out of that batch. Can't wait to get back to my midwest brews!
