poured from a 12 oz into my arrogant bastard pint glass. Generous amount of rich tan sandy colored head, small bubbles make it nice and creamy, clings well to the glass. Dark brew, looks thick and mysterious, somewhat reddish tinge when held to the light.
Smells of dark roasted barley and chocolate malts, gives off a distinctive coffee bean scent like fresh beans being ground.
Great flavors, I get roasted coffee, caramel, chocolate, some dark woody notes (oak and beech). The roast is prominent and combined with the wood it gives me a bit of a smokey aftertaste. Basic progression is sweet caramel toffee fading to a bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee, into a smokey wooded flavor in the end.
Mouthfeel is very well balanced, the thick porter style is apparent and gives it smoothness of tasting, the carbonation has a presence which brings a spicy livelihood to the brew. Well rounded flavors and probably used quite a few different kinds of malts in this brew, I'm impressed with what they came up with here.
Very drinkable and not as dangerous as you may think at a brew this dark looking, 5.3% it's a great session beer if your a fan o the night brews. Bottom line, if you like coffee you will like this beer, if you like coffee and chocolate you will love this beer, if you love beer, well what can I say?

a. Deep dark brown with a .5 finger head when poured into a pint glass. Lacing on the glass is thin.
s. Coffee and malt.
t. Excellent balance with coffee and malt. Not finding the chocolate
side of the mocha, but who cares - taste is a notch above above outstanding (on this scale).
m. A bit dry on the finish, but good hidden carbonation.
o. A porter that is a step above most coffee porters. I find some coffee porters to be overwhelming - the mocha toned it down nicely.
