The best porter I've ever had. The smell is wonderful; a blend of coffee, chocolate, and beer. Almost perfect taste. I' would give it a 5 for taste but then my search is over. Slightly under carbonated.

Cold, poured from a bottle into a snifter

Appearance: Dark brown, almost black color, pours with a half-inch tan head which disappears quickly. Lacing clings down the side of the glass.

Smell: Malty & roasty with hints of dark chocolate and caramel.

Taste: Light carbonation, medium body,

Mouthfeel: Nice aroma of espresso and nuttiness lingers for a while. Nothing much of any mocha or chocolate as the name implies. The finish is dry but creamy.

Overall
The mocha name is a little misleading as I was hoping it would be in the taste. It's slightly on the too-hoppy side of how I like porters but not nearly as bad as an Anchor.

Dark brown pour with almost no head. Aroma is malty and roasted, with a hint of cocoa. Flavor is somewhat light, with barely a trace of chocolate, and only coffee notes in the dry finish. Not a bad beer, but needs more of the mocha all around.

A true black, with tan head which starts out big, but is quick to melt. Not sure I feel the "Mocha" is a headliner here. Sure, this Porter has notes of espresso and dark chocolate, but not to an such an extent that it stands out from countless other commercial examples of this style. More prominent is the roasted grainy malt and gentle, yet peppery hops. It's a fine flavor profile, but not very complex, especially since a thin, watery mouthfeel is unable to support potentially stronger tastes. With medium carbonation and a smooth finish, this more closely resembles a Schwarzbier. Perhaps some of the disappointment comes from the letdown prompted by the many-layered aroma of dark fruit, brown sugar, and molasses--none of these Baltic Porter aspects of come through in the taste.

It's black with one finger of head that dissapates fast. It does smell like a stout, roastiness and coffee, but both faint. The first thing I noticed was how think and light it is. The flavors are lacking, just not much there. I will not buy again.

A decent porter. Not that much mocha, all in all. But a porter, a good, classic one.

Nose has hints of coffee, but not more so than Anchor or similar ones.
Taste is what you'd expect, with a alight charred malt flavor, hints of caramel, chocolate, coffee.
Little carbonation, makes for a smooth beer.
Thin beige head, sticks around.

A good beer, I personally like Viven and such better, but still really good.

Bought from Bev Mart $2.69 12 ounce. Dark color, thick mouthfeel, smooth but weak in taste. I was expecting a bolder taste from it so maybe my expectations were too high. It's a fine beer, but I would prefer a more pronounced tasting porter.

This is a very interesting beer. I've never had a mocha porter, so maybe it's just new to me. Much drier than I'm accustomed to in a porter. Overall came together higher than individual ratings. As a result of being slightly drier the chocolate takes on a cocoa powder property. Unique.

Pours black with a small head.
Nose shows sweet toast and nutty malt along with prominent chocolate notes.
Flavours include more soft roast, toasty malt and nutty hints along with a nice bit of sweetness.

12fl oz bottle. Dark ruby brown colour with lovely ruby highlights. Decent tan head lasted well and left nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate and espresso. Light to medium sweetness and similar bitterness, touch of astringency. Light to medium body; surprisingly thin but gritty texture; slightly dry but long lasting roasted finish. Glad I tried it but didn't leave me wanting another one. 7.

Interesting to note that I'd just had the Steelhead Porter from Mad River Brewing the night before tasting this offering from Rogue: Actually some similarity in fact in appearance/mouthfeel, although I found this one to have far less upfront and sustaining sweetness and a more prominent bitterness in the finish. As such, would definitely raise the hand of Mad River in a head to head, which was an easier drinking / more enjoyable pour for me at least.

L: Brown, tan head, some carbonation and head

S: Roasted coffee, chocolate, some hops

T/F: the slight bitterness is up front, slight coffee leads to chocolate. Much thinner then most stouts but maintains a medium body.

O: Was a decent brew, wish it was more balanced with malts, was good not great. would consider again but woudnt look it for it.

When I first poured the Rogue Mocha Porter into my Irish pint I was a little worried as it appeared a little lighter than I like my porters. Once I took my first drink everything was set right. Very rich and smokey flavors came through, the aroma of barley and dark chocolate hit my nose. It has a full-bodied flavor as it coats the mouth. Going down the gullet it feels rich and complex.

Not as complex and bitter and Founders Porter, or even Bell's Porter, Rogue has still made a wonderful porter that tastes as sophisticated as it does delicious.

Too bubbly and bitter for my taste. My opinion is that stouts and porters should be smooth and creamy, not hoppy. Some people might enjoy this, especially if you're a fan of IPAs.

Aroma is chocolate, nutty malts and some earthiness. The flavor is coffee, nutty malts, chocolate and a hint of fruit in but mostly a smooth finish otherwise.

Appearance : This beer pours a creamy, khaki colored head, about 3 fingers in height. When it recedes fully it lands at about 1/2 finger, and leaves faint and quickly disappearing lace on the sides. The body is chocolate brown, with some distinct muddiness like muddy water. It is 95% opaque.

Aroma : Chocolate animal cracker, graham, cacao, dirty dark roasted coffee bean faintly trailing behind. Hot fudge. Some spiciness from the hop also accommodates the smell.

Taste : Very hop forward, which was unexpected. Towards the middle-end, I'm getting some faint cacao and then coffee bean, manifesting itself in coffee breath. In the failing final whisps it bounces both unsweetened chocolate and bold coffee grounds together as it disappears and dries lightly.

Feel : Right off the bat it's frothy and creamy, providing a substantial body to the undercurrent of coffee and mild chocolate. I like this mouthfeel.

Overall : Too hop forward. I would have preferred more chocolate and more malts. This is a very coffee-forward beer, though, so if you're a fan of coffee beers, you'll like this one.

A: Dark brown, opaque except when held to light, 1 fingers width light tan head with good rendition before dissipating down and leaves a few small patches of lacing. 4

S: Roasty, subtle chocolate, cream. 3.75

T: Roasty, lots of herbaceous characters, some bitterness, faint chocolate. Meh 3.25

M/D: Lighter side of medium body, pretty heavy carbonation, drinkability is average. 3.5

O: Ok, probably wouldn’t get again though. 3.5

Great beer, nice coffee aroma, good head that gets thin but persist during the whole time leaving scant lacing.
Very good aggressive coffee flavor, some smokiness, the body is medium, overall it is a delicious nicely done beer.

Color between dark brown and black with a thick dark beige color with medium retention and leaving laces.
Aroma with predominant notes of coffee and chocolate, some hay, maybe vanilla and a bit of charcoal.
So far nice, but not extraordinary. Flavor is more interesting given realistic mocha roasted notes, pacman yeast, spicy and earthy hops, nuts, charcoal and resin. Not sweet and with a mild tangy sensation. Dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness and residual roasted notes.
Light body with appropriate carbonation.
Flavorful, but not a bomb numbing taste, so adequate for style and with a superior drinkability. Besides mocha notes, its spices and a nutty-tangy-earthy character made it very pleasant. I could suggest creating another beer, but I wouldn’t change a thing on this one.

Poured a very dark brownish red with a beige head. Smell was predominately the roasted malt. Coffee and roasted malt was the predominate flavor with a little bit of chocolate, but the flavors weren't very strong. It was also a little too thin and watery. Overall it was pretty ok.

Good, Not great porter. Dry nutty taste. Refreshing, but still moderately heavy, chewy mouthfeel. I didn't get much coffee or chocolate in the taste. Seems closer to an English style porter than a "Mocha" porter. Would repeat.

Tasting notes: Big chocolate covered coffee bean flavor. Some peanut and raisin notes come on late and add complexity. Smooth. Recalls flat cola at times. Some citrus hops apparent. Slightly earthy. One of Rogue's better special ingredient offerings.

A tasty yet complex porter. Rogue NEVER disappoints, and doesn't with this one. On cask at Fat Heads Sah Side. Wish this was more readily available on cask.

12 oz bottle from BevMo. Dark brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of chocolate, toasted malts, a bit of caramel and coffee. Taste is bittersweet chocolate, toasted caramel and coffee grounds. Backed by a resiny hoppiness that comes through as slightly acidic. Medium bodied with a light texture, dry finish and slightly higher than average carbonation. Could have easily been richer but they kept it drinkable. Love the low ABV.

Sampled last night on 2/19/15. Comes in a '1 pint, 6 ounce', 22 ounce bottle (850ml) for around $7.00. Has a nice painted on label as do all their bottled beer does. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a 20 ounce handled-glass stein.

Brew pours a very deep mahogany with some ruby-highlights. A good 3-finger foamy beige head is seen after the pour that lasts a good while before settling down to around 3-5mm. A decent amount of lacing is seen when sipped that sticks to the inside of the glass. The aroma is of roasted malts for the most part with a light hint of coffee I believe. More going on with the taste but the mocha is very light actually as I was expecting more of that flavor. Does have a light hint of nuts along with the coffee. The finish is slightly bitter and hangs around for a bit. Medium-bodied with perfect carbonation. Overall it isn't a bad Porter as I had better for a cheaper price though. Had better though.
