12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours moderately hazy very dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, caramel, coffee, toast, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt with light hop presence; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, herbal, light pine, light nuttiness, and roasted earthiness. Light earthy pine/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, herbal, light pine, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and moderate hop flavors; with solid robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good porter. Good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and moderate hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering. (1,372 characters)

Poured reddish black opaque with mohagany hue. Thick soapy head that quickly dissapated, leaving slight tan skiff and foamy ring, Very slight oil slick on surface and moderate cabonation. Nice color, but would like to see creamier head that sustained.

Aroma: Faint coffee-like roast. No hops. Banana notes and a bit of chalk. Needs more.

Taste: Toffee, molasses and coffee bitterness. Slightly astringent and dry.

Mouthfeel: Dry and moderately thin. A bit of carbonation tingle.

Overall: Pretty non-descript for the style, but smooth and drinkable with good coffee character. The kind of dark ale that you can quaff on a hot day because the its relatively dry and the coffee is relatively mild. (699 characters)

The first few sips were amazing - lots of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. But as the beer started to warm up, these flavors became less prominent. Maybe it's because my palate became overwhelmed or the flavor just changes as it warms up. Anyways, still very tasty. (267 characters)

look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

Appearance: Has a nice nearly black body with a think dark one inch head.

Smell: I could not get my nose out of this beer as it had a profound chocolate smell that was both sweet and dark at the same time.

Taste: The taste was a lot like the smell. Sweet chocolate upfront that turns into a bitter dark chocolate/roasted coffee taste.

Mouthfeel: This was smooth but bitter and leaves a dry taste making you want another sip.

Overall: Overall a delicious porter that stands true to its name with a chocolatey and decadent body that finishes with a black roasted coffee taste. (578 characters)

12 oz. bottle poured into a tumbler.

A- Very deep brown, some dark red hues shine through against some light. Brown head is pretty creamy but isn't thick. Good lacing, however.

S- The mocha comes out, more on the chocolate side. Pretty sweet. Light on the coffee, but a gentle roast hits the nose.

T- Roast comes out more in the flavor, with the coffee and cocoa in the background. There a slight flavor of vanilla as well.

M- Rather light in body, but a slight creaminess. Very smooth and easy to drink. There's a bit of a roasty, dry finish as well.

O- One of the better Rogue's I've had. It has a nice flavor and drinks well. (633 characters)

Pours out dark as night with a finger, beige head with decent retention and some decent lacing. Smell is sweet with some dark fruits, maybe a hint of coffee, a hint of chocolate but it is pretty sweet upfront. Taste is much more coffee -- I was hoping I was in there. Also taste all that was in the nose. Mouthfeel is nice with lots of carbonation for this low ABV Porter. Overall this isn't a bad beer but it really isn't anything I would go after again. The coffee just tastes a little off to me. I love coffee in beers but hate coffee. Possibly this is just a type of coffee that doesn't agree with me as much. (613 characters)

A- Poured into my Guinness pint glass, the beer looked dark black with some ruby red tints towards the bottom of the glass. Head was a nice "mocha" tan type color. Big bubbles; very creamy. Looks like a great dark beer!

S- HUGE CHOCOLATE NOTES! That is followed up with a roasted coffee and cream smell. Very malty. Semi sweet from the chocolate. Inviting!

T- Huge chocolate, with the roasted coffee and cream notes from the nose. Those elements create a dessert type sweetness overall. I also detected some light toffee and caramel notes. Bitterness is a little high, but it's not a dominating flavor by any means.

*-When warmer, the bitterness kicks in harder and there is a bigger coffee/toffee caramel maltyness. At this point very little, if any, chocolate comes through. The beer tastes better cold to me.

M- Medium bodied, but so smooth. Mild carbination, but enough there to notice. It's not like Guinness where you can't even tell it's carbonated. Finish lingers for a bit. It finishes smooth and semi sweet. Just like dessert I tell yeah! Very pleasant drinking, especially when cold.

*Overall this is a great beer. My only complaint would have to be with the bitterness, but that's just if I had to pick something to complain about. I think the bitterness could be less in a beer like this. But overall this is outstanding! Looking forward to the rest!!!! (1,372 characters)

Overall this beer has impressed me in the past but it just doesnt do it for me at this point in time as there is a medicinal/metallic taste to it that is just too off putting.

Pours a dark brown with little head retention. , meh

Smell is cocoa and coffee with metallic notes, not what I had before with this...

Taste is the same with notes of bitter cocoa and coffee with, some hop bitterness, and a lingering metallic taste, odd , I know its rogue but , bleh...

mouthfeel is nice its robust and full, nice carb, just the damn after taste... ugh

I wish I didnt review this at this time, I thought I have had a better version of this. Hmm.. (644 characters)

$2.49 single bottle poured into a pint glass. It's been awhile since I've had a Rogue beer.

Appearance: A slightly hazy black and dark ruby color. Two fingers of a mocha head that actually stays at one for quite awhile. Lacing's pretty good. The head itself is pretty creamy. Looks great.

Smell: Coffee. Dark chocolate. Some malty sweetness. Truthfully, all to be said about this beer -- and that's not a bad thing. Fits well with the style and name of the beer. Easier to pick up when the beer warms.

Taste: Semi-sweet mocha right at the start, and almost through to the end. The finish adds some roasted malts to the whole thing to keep it from being overly sweet. Not overly complex, but very enjoyable regardless. Gets a touch sweeter as it warms up, which is fine with me.

Feel: I think this is about perfect for a porter, as I know the style. It's got a medium body with a pretty creamy mouthfeel, but it's not as big as a stout is/should be. Somewhat prickly carbonation on the front of the tongue on the finish.

Suddenly one of my favorite porters, if not my favorite (Edmund Fitzgerald is up there as well). The one thing about this beer, while I enjoy it a bit more than Edmund Fitz (mostly because of the feel), it's also a dollar or two more expensive for a six pack... I'm not sure I like it THAT much more. Rogue Mocha Porter is a pleasant tasting, easy drinking, sessionable porter that I could gladly enjoy a few of. Definitely try this beer. (1,463 characters)

A: Dark brown with almost no head, very much like a cola.

S: Malt roastiness with coffee and chocolate notes.

T: Bold roasted coffee with a nice balance of bitterness and chocolate sweetness. I'd have liked there to have been more chocolate present.

M: Way too thin and carbonated for a "porter". Much like the appearance, this aspect reminds me more of a cola than a beer.

O: It tastes pretty good, I'll give it that. Hell, maybe I'll drink it again sometime just for that. I do wish it tasted more distinctly of mocha. It seems to lack the characteristics that I'd expect from a porter, though. It loses a lot of points on that. It should be thicker and less carbonated. (676 characters)

S: Medicinal, cough syrup, some coffee and roasted malt

T: Sweet and a bit sickly. Not flawed but not particularly pleasant.

M: Smooth though syrupy.

Good porter with a nice mocha kick. Black with a nice tan head. Tastes very complex with an up front malty mocha kick and low hop bitterness. Drinkable and at under six percent you can have a few without losing all senses. this sits on your palate for a while after each sip so it should be savored. Mocha flavors intensify as it warms in the glass. At under 10 bucks a sixer this will be in my rotation as long as rogue keeps it in theirs. (440 characters)

Finally i have gotten around to trying this brew from Rogue. Usually i opt for a cheaper beer because at almost $7 for 1.6 pt, this isn't cheap. It pours a little thinner than most porters with a nice mahogany color. Nice head retention and the carbonation looks right for the style. Mmmm, that's nice. The first wave is the coffee and mocha rush followed by a smooth almost toasted caramel/oats finish. I would almost swear this was made with oats and coffee. The mouthfeel is right on as well. Overall, totally worth the wait, and the money. I really think this is one of the best self-proclaimed coffee porters i've had in ages. Good on ya Rogue, you never let me down :) (674 characters)

From the 12 fl. oz bottle. Sampled on October 20, 2013.

This pours a handsome looking dark brown to nearly black with this fluffy tan head that really fills up the top of the glass.

The aroma does not express the mocha character much but there are plenty of dark malts and mild earthy hops in it.

The body is full and creamy.

The coffee/mocha rebounds in full fashion once I sip it. I get a lot more of it in the taste than on the nose. Mild sweetness and low bitterness. A nice Porter all in all. (502 characters)

Reviewing this live as we speak.

Appearance is a dark, black coffee and oily mud. Poured into a pint glass, produces a strong taupe head that lingers then settles down. Smell is a nice dark rich coffee and dark chocolate. Tastes just like the nose, but intensifies with the robust coffee flavors, yet balanced by malts. Mouthfeel is heavy, but not over the top. Sits around on the palate for a while, then slowly fades away. Overall a great beer. I would definitely grab this again (483 characters)

appearance - 4.0 - this is good looking beer, dark brown almost black, barely any head with basically no lacing.

smell - 4.25 - this beer smells like coffee, with a hint of chocolate, vanilla beans, roasted malt

taste - 4.25- this beer tastes like coffee, basically like if you mixed A mocha latte and a stout, coffee beans, espresso, dark Malts, roasted malts, vanilla, creamy milk

mouth feel - 4.25 - light mouth feel for a stout with medium-heavy carbonation, leaves a roasty coffee aftertaste which is light.

overall - 4.0 - a good moCha stout but more with respect to the English idea of what a stout is. Somewhat weak, one dimensional, and lacking a wow factor . (672 characters)

Bazzinga!

A: Dark, like cowboy chicory. Poured into an Imperial pint glass, the head is slightly less than a finger, with the perfect amount of lacing.

S: Mocha, coffee, caramel, hops, brown sugar

T: Prairie sludge: in a good way. Strong coffee flavor, with just the right amounts of porter and chocolate.

M: Creamy but not filling. The acidity of coffee hangs out with your buds for a few. The hops are well balanced, as a porter should be.

O: Drink, drank, drunk... gonna stock this one in my cooler trunk! (513 characters)

A: silk screen bottle poured into a chalice named Leffe. Beautiful dark brown. Massive lacing left behind from a brown crown, that is thick and robust. A beauty.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am a hop / java head who drinks 6+ java cups a day, usually half decaf, mostly brewed espresso style. This beer is heaven to someone like me. But it doesnt 'fake' being coffee or chocolate like - in my view.

S: All good reviewers agree: this is a porter that smells like hops. Hops, malt, chocolate syrup without any cloying bit. Outdoors, hay, grass, freshness. This beer smells great.

T: Chocolate and iced black coffee dominate. Flows into a hop bitter, dry finish, so without any cloying sweetness. A nice flavor arc & finish. This is good all-year round. Starts sweet, malty, then arcing to bitter and dry. Gets dryer and more herbal with warming (instead of sweeter, which is good!) Very good beer to serve at warmer temps.

Great food beer. Great after dinner beer.

F: Full - to - medium feel, but really just a medium weight. "How do they do that?" Excellent!

Mocha Porter is as good as any I have tried, and is moderate alcohol (Good) to boot. Highly, highly recommended, I'd drink this any time. A favorite! (1,209 characters)

153 calories per bottle at 5.1% ABV. Strong taste that is too bitter for my taste. I could sense the slight kick of mocha which didn't quite stand-out over the bitterness of the porter to make it desirable for me. I would not consider buying this again not being a strong bitter beer fan though I'd think this would be about average in that category. (350 characters)

Pours a very dark brown with a slight reddish tint when held to the light. Very large tan head with heavy lacing all the way down the glass.

The smell is slightly sweet with a coffee hint but also has a very off, pungent smell.

Taste is sweet with a strong espresso/coffee taste at the end. The hops are definitely there.

Slightly carbonated. Heavy feel. Dry on the way down and the beer seems to linger in your mouth. Very sticky.

Overall it's a good beer. I would drink again but don't know if I would buy. (516 characters)

Pours deep dark brown, with a dark red effect in places, when held to the light. Looks great. Large foamy tan head.
Smells like some light chocolaty coffee grinds, but there's an off-smell to me which at first i thought was like amaretto, but with more whiffs I just can't pin it. Borders on bitter anise and stale puke. Odd. Am I interpreting the hops negatively?
Tastes better than it smells. There's a vanilla cream flavor, on the sweet side, and it gives way to a pleasant bitter roasted flavor, feels somewhat thin and lightly carbonated. Any mocha or coffee tastes like it gets marginalized/ thinned-out by the hop presence. Pretty dry on the finish. (658 characters)

A: Dark Amber. Very Foamy. Retains head.

S: Chocolaty with a hint of something else. I can't really put my finger on it. A fruity kind of smell.

T: You can taste the coffee but it doesn't overpower you. It goes down surprisingly smooth for a chocolate tasting beer.

M: A light carbonation. Not too heavy. It hangs like syrup on the back of your tongue.

O: When I saw that this was a "Mocha" beer, my first thought was ehhh. I want my beer to taste like beer, not a cheap Starbucks latte. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't knock you over with the coffee taste. Very smooth. Great balance. Great beer. (621 characters)

Very dark in appearance the ruby highlighted Porter is lost to this blacker than night addition. The head was creamy but not particularly stout.

Lots of dry chocolate malt hits the nose with hints of coffee and roasted malt. The taste follows suit with dry chocolate leading the way and roasted coffee holding after the taste. Velvety smooth on the tongue and dry in the mouth, the feel is much like the taste in its composition.

Overall, this is really tasty and a great experience but I missed the Mocha portion that is held in the name. No worries, as the flavorful stout-like presence is more than enough to get you through. (630 characters)

Poured from a 12oz standard pressure-cap bottle into a mason jar in high elevation Kalispell, Mont. Reviewed live.

A- Two-finger mocha head. Very active carbonation with large bubbles. Cola-colored body with low clarity.

S- Mocha, chocolate malts. Bitter aroma. Roasty and toasty smell. Kind of nice, but not complex in my opinion.

T- Chocolate, a slight coffee taste, roast malts and deep, dark tastes.

M- Grainy and thick.

O- Feel is the best part of this beer. Not bad, not exemplary. Like most Rogue beers I have. (523 characters)
