My instinct tells me that this one was sitting on the shelf for a long time where I bought it but it smells fine, just not sure how it reflects the fresh batch (bottle dates would help). Pours a very dark brown, almost black color with a two and a half finger head that looks pretty creamy on top but very bubbly around the sides. The head is a nice tan color and has better retention than most other beer. It leaves medium lacing around random spots of the glass. Smell has a lot of roasted coffee and malts in it but overall is kind of weak. Some chocolate is found also. Taste is big on the same things as smell. Lots of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate, although not as much as an RIS. It is a nice lighter version of these flavors and much easier to drink. This beer definitely has the same cocoa flavor of the chocolate stout but not as big. All of the Rogue beers have a similar key flavor to them but I can't describe it, I just feel it once it hits the tongue. The beer tastes a bit watery at times but not overly. The mouthfeel is good on this beer as well. There is definitely some creaminess to it along with a good amount of carbonation. A nice roasty flavor is left on the tongue well after I take my sip. The body is medium but on the watery side of that, it's just hard for me to like coffee/chocolate beers with any watery feel to them. No warming at all hear to speak of. Drinkability is good, the beer tastes good, the price was not bad at all, there really are no off flavors or alcohol so this one could definitely be sessioned reasonably.

On draught at their PDX pub, poured into a Rogue pils glass, the Mocha Porter is a hazy, very dark amber with a very small, bone colored head that leaves heavy lace. Served too cold.

Smell is strong caramel malt, a bit more coffee as it warms, very clean.

Taste is very nice, a great mix of coffee and porter. This has always been a favorite homebrew combination of mine, yet most of the commercial versions our stouts, and I find the roasted malts overpower the coffee in all but the riches examples (e.g. Péché Mortel).

Mouthfeel is average, medium body and on the crisper side with the finish. Lots of burps, it wasn't the easiest on the belly.

Drinkability is good for me, as this is damn smooth and very tasty. Again, it's one of my favorite homebrew styles (coffee porter), and I'm not sure why I haven't had this before!!! Still, there's no denying the richness, I'm running out of time for my flight, will only be able to quickly slurp down one more beer, and this won't be it...as tasty as it is, I'll go with their new JLS pils, although I frankly didn't enjoy as much.

We seem to get a fair amount of Rogue offerings here in Maine, which is fine with me. This beer was a dark brown with a small coffee-colored head. It had a coffee, chocolate odor with a little roasted grain. I thought the taste was predominately coffee (like espresso) with a chocolate undertone along with some hops. A little bit on the light side, but still a nice beer.

This beer is deep black with a head the color of a chocolate malted. Smells a little bit roasted and a little like some good coffee. The taste is chocolate and dark, but not too strong. This is one of the first Rogue beers I really like and I didn't really taste the "Rogue" flavor I get from most of their beers.

These coffee style stouts/porters aren't my thing but this is a dandy....black with a tan lace that lines the glass...not a huge aroma but some nice sweeter type coffee notes...very creamy mouthfeel. A sweeter mocha style and thick...A heavy porter...Boy you catch the hop bitterness big-time on the long finish (Just as I prefer on this style)..immediate taste is a sweeter mocha taste, but followed by that deeper hop finish...a pretty amazing beer. Like I said, not my bag of tea(err coffee) but I must give props to an extremely well made beer.

This comes out of the tap an opaque sable with a thick, camel color finely-bubbled head. Strong aroma is like smoky coffee and has a firm tone of unsweetened chocolate and hints of molasses. Rich, satisfying flavor is like a mocha, fine roast coffee and chocolate, not sweet but not bitter either. Finish is smooth and sleek. Recommended to all porter and stout fans.

Had this on tap at the Saucer. Deep brown color that permits the slightest amount of light to penetrate. Creamy, frothy brown head leaves lots of lacing.

Fresh coffee smell with roasted chocolate malts and hops that linger as well.

Malts all come through in the taste. The bitterness of the hops aren't too overpowering, but seem to rule the roost.Tastes like bittersweet baker's chocolate and cappuccino. They definitely named the beer correctly.

On the lighter side of a medium mouthfeel with carbonation ever present.

Better than the bottle, but either way not hard to put a few of these babies back.

Pours black with a small head.
Nose shows sweet toast and nutty malt along with prominent chocolate notes.
Flavours include more soft roast, toasty malt and nutty hints along with a nice bit of sweetness.

12 oz bottle pours a near-black color with a thick froth of tan head. Fades slow and leaves great lacing. If nothing else, Rogue usually masters the art of a good-looking beer.

Nose is roasty and cocoa with a surprising waft of smoke. Low on the fruit and has a decent amount of sweetness to it.

Taste is more muted than I expected, not quite sweet enough for me and lacks depth. Has some flashes of cocoa here and there, but nothing substantial to warrant the term 'Mocha'. Roastiness is decent, some coffee flavors come through. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery, seems a little one-dimensional with just a bit of dark malt really showing anything worthwhile. I am glad I finally found this as a single, I have been avoiding a full sixer for years due to the absurd price and my lack of love for the house Pacman yeast. That appears to have been wise, as this beer really does not do much for me.

This is one of the best-looking beers I've ever poured. Black with deep brown hues in the light, the light brown head on this one is impressive and sticky lacing coats the glass.

The smell is malt, coffee and chocolate with an alcoholic tinge.

This one has a nice smoky flavor with that bittersweet dark chocolate and coffee. Some hops leave that well-balanced bitterness on the tongue and you can feel the alcohol.

There is good carbonation in a medium-bodied, smooth and creamy brew. A lingering slightly bitter finish leaves notes of hops with some sweetness on the tongue.

Overall an impressive brew. Not as strong on the coffee as some might like, but a great porter.

I have had this beer on many occasions and neglected to review it. The beer is a dark brown color with a thick head. The aroma shouts coffee...espresso...deep, dark, rich roasts. The coffee really dominates the smell, leaving just a little grain and malt underneath. A smooth dryness characterizes the taste. Coffee is present there as well...a cool mocha. Light bitterness...some smoke...nuts and dried figs. Coffee, though, that is the leading taste. Full mouthfeel...very smooth. Great brew.

Muddy with amber highlights and a tan head that trails. More coffee than chocolate on the nose and more than a bit of brown toast.
Thick honey on Irish brown soda, slight red currants, a roast sweet hit and hints of coffee sourness and Baker's chocolate.
Creme brulee ending and bitter hoppy linger. Light to medium, dry, crisp, lean, with some fizz.

Definitely on the Plain (as in Dry Irish) side of the style. Not much mocha. A knock-back porter.

Color between dark brown and black with a thick dark beige color with medium retention and leaving laces.
Aroma with predominant notes of coffee and chocolate, some hay, maybe vanilla and a bit of charcoal.
So far nice, but not extraordinary. Flavor is more interesting given realistic mocha roasted notes, pacman yeast, spicy and earthy hops, nuts, charcoal and resin. Not sweet and with a mild tangy sensation. Dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness and residual roasted notes.
Light body with appropriate carbonation.
Flavorful, but not a bomb numbing taste, so adequate for style and with a superior drinkability. Besides mocha notes, its spices and a nutty-tangy-earthy character made it very pleasant. I could suggest creating another beer, but I wouldn’t change a thing on this one.

So pretty. Little bits floating in it. Perfect head, large and tan.

Hoppy smell. It is a Rogue, after all. Very nice toffee and coffee mixture with an almost woody hint. Strange and nice.

Coffee up front, only sweet, like something that's coffee flavored. Sugar, toffee, and hop on the back. Nice. Very nice.

A bit of a thin mouthfeel, for a porter. Maybe Anchor just has me spoiled. It does go down nice and smooth, though. A little bit too bitter to drink too much of it at once.

A nice brew from the usually boring Rogue. Pours a dark brown with light khaki head. Smells like a cup of Joe. This one is very up front with the coffee, some roast, and a little bitter chocolate. Finishes with a nice bitterness that keeps this plenty light and easy drinking. Very good.

This had a very strong coffee flavor, with decent bitterness. It was a good porter, but it didn't have any chocolate flavor like "mocha" would indicate. (My notes from this beer didn't include anything regarding the appearance or smell, other than high numerical ratings.)

This brew pours a black color. The head is very large for a porter, tan in color, and lasts forever. The aroma is of coffee and cream. Coffee is the first impression the taste gives, but it is quickly overpowered by a strong bitterness. This bitterness is too much for a porter for my liking. The mouthfeel is oily and medium bodied. Overall, I don't think I will be having this beer again as all of its elements are working agains each other instead of in harmony with each other.

12 oz bottle poured into a regular glass.

A: Pours a very dark red color. The head is a very nice two finger mocha (ha!) shade with great texturing and excellent retention.

S: There's a coffee - albeit slightly stale - and hazelnut quality to the aroma in general, and even a little bit of licorice. The aroma could be stronger, and as a point of nitpicking, slightly less vegetal as well.

T:The flavor is more coffee forward in general, from the starting flavors all the way to the finish. Problem is, just like the aroma, it seems awfully stale and vegetal. The said quality kills the finish with excessive bitterness. The hoppiness and roast don't really get along, either. Can't say I enjoy this one too much.

M: Airy and bone dry; normally, this is a quality I enjoy in my dark beers, but not when it's so dry it comes off as watery. A thicker texture (not to mention a bit more residual sweetness) would really help this out, but it helps make an otherwise mediocre beer more drinkable.

O: This is way too thin, bitter, and vegetal for me to enjoy this in any significant capacity. Needless to say, I won't be repeating this one in the future.

Aroma is chocolate, nutty malts and some earthiness. The flavor is coffee, nutty malts, chocolate and a hint of fruit in but mostly a smooth finish otherwise.

Pour a solid black color with a tan head. Aromas of caramel, coffee, and chocolate. A bit of the same in taste, caramel, coffee, and chocolate, in that order. A sweet dry aftertaste lingers for a couple of minutes. Big flavor, good for a dessert beer.

A: Dark brown body with a with a bit of a beigge head that left some wisps of lace on the sides.

Smell: Has some chocolate, bitter coffee and expresso, and richer toffee notes. Nothing exotic, but nothing to complain about

Taste: Coffee dominated, somewhat bitter, with lesser notes of unsweetened chocolate. Slight amount of grassy taste on the end for some reason..

Mouthfeel: Mediumish body with soft carbonation.

Drinkability: Wish this one had a bit more heft, not a favorite, would pass on it next time..

Color is black with a creamy tannish head, faded fast leaving tiny bits of lace. Smells dark and earthy of deep dark, blackened malt, notes of espresso & coffee. Taste echoes of the smell, earthy roasted malt thats very deep, dark, blackened, quite robust with a great dark bitterness of coffee, all very tolerable. Feel is pretty strong, heavy, and full with a nice deep coffee-like dryness. This porter is drinkable and packed with dark flavors, but some of the strength of the taste and body makes for intimidation in my book.
Had to take some time to finish it. But man its worth it, time well spent.

A - Pours almost opaque with a dark red hue along the edges, two fingers of light mocha head with solid retention and some nice chunky lacing.

S - Some dark cocoa, bitter espresso, earthy leafy hops come through on the finish.

T - Quite tasty with dark cocoa coming through off the top, some nice espresso notes which don't come across bitter in the least, and some leafy hops on the finish. The dark cocoa really lingers on the palette and is scrumptious!

M - Medium bodied, a bit prickly going down, but finishes nicely with a touch of dryness.

O - A really tasty porter with some great chocolate notes. Easily sessionable and quality example of the style. I could take down a 6-er of this any day. Delicious!

Pours a finger of tan head on a black body.
The aroma is lots of chocolate and roasted malt. Wonderful.
The taste has moderate chocolate sweetness, off-set by a moderate bitterness that builds through the profile. Finishes with a touch of milk.
The texture is softer and medium bodied.
Enjoyable.
