Pours like a perfect Porter/Stout, dark with a nice but not over the top creamy head.. It has a nice aroma, nothing too much, not hppy, not chocolate, not much of anything distinctive.
First sip was nice, but then I lost something. I was hoping for a bit more on the mocha or at least smokey flavors
It was hard to even find the mocha in this one.
I have a love/hate relationship with Rogue brews. There are so many that I rate at the top and then there a few that are not my favorites.
But I guess that is why we are taste and drink different beers

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Dark brown/black with one-finger, tan, creamy head that lasted a couple of minutes. Nice lacing.

S: Caramel malt and dark fruit.

T: Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Coffee and chocolate. Nice roasted/charred finish.

M: Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. Creamy.

O: Solid American porter. Above average in every way. Will try again.

Poured into a Hoegaarden hex glass, this porter has very dark cola color that gets to a dark ruby around the edges. After a vigorous pour, the caramel colored head built up about three fingers or so before receding rather quickly. Minimal head retention and lacing, just little bits here and there.

The aroma is a mix of both bittersweet and milk chocolate, mild grassy hops, caramel, and subtle hints of coffee. While it's more or less in the middle, the sweetness just seems to grab my attention a bit more. The flavor starts out with creamy milk chocolate, caramel, and light coffee. Next, earthy/grassy hops that honestly seem a bit metallic in taste, give this beer a little bite. The hop flavor gets pushed back pretty easily by all the dark roasty malt flavor in the finish, leaving you with a creamy semi-sweet chocolate aftertaste.

Although this is a creamy mocha porter, it seems to be a little light in body, almost a little watery for the style. That being said, obviously this is going to be way heavier than a pilsner.

Poured from bomber into Chimay chalice.

A - Big, foamy, frothing cream-colored head, slow to recede.
Black until held to the light, brown-ruby shines through at bottom of glass

S - Getting a bit of caramel, a faint flavored-coffee aroma, and some dark, dried fruit.

T - really toasty, like liquid chocolate malt, some semi-bitter dark chocolate flavors - though the beer as a whole is not overly bitter. Coffee present in smell is not detectable here. Also missing is the "porterness" of this beer.

M - Somewhat coating, low in noticeable carbonation, despite implications set forth by the massive head.

O - Upon second inspection, the bottle says nothing of coffee specifically. Having been thrown by the name - Mocha implying chocolate coffee, I was at first let down by the lack of coffee flavor. Still a decent brew, although I thought not very characteristic of a porter. Good beer, terribly inaccurate name.

First had: on tap at Rogue, Portland, OR

Poured a dark brown-black with a small but cream tan head. Aroma of roasty malts, cocoa, coffee, and some herbal hops. While the flavor profile contains many elements of a typical coffee porter--roasted dark malts, coffee, cocoa--there was a definite herbal presence throughout, very reminiscent of a black tea, presumably from the hops used. This gave a dry and somewhat bitter finish. Medium body, nice balance, not too coffee-y, and pretty drinkable overall.

Upon opening some smoke hovers at the neck. Upon pouring in a nice beer glass it pours a one to one and a half finger head. the color of the head is brownish tan. It retains really well and laces nicely. The body is opaque and jet brownish black. Looks like a nice porter.

It smells of coffee, some hops, and chocolate. the chocolate is kind of a faint subtle smell while some hops come out really nice in the aroma and the coffee is always there throughout the aroma.

the taste is of coffee, hops, and chocolate. Lingering aftertaste is of chocolate and coffee. This tastes really nice. I love the combination of coffee with hops plus the hints of chocolate here and there. Nice tasting porter.

It is very smooth and has a nice mouthfeel. It has the good feel to it that complements the taste that altogether makes it a nice beer.

Overall I really enjoy this beer and drinking it. I love stouts and porters and I drink Guinness extra stout a lot. I enjoy this porter a lot and will definitely buy it again and will maybe buy it regularly just like I buy the guinness stout even though this one is a bit more expensive than the guinness stout. If you like any stout or any porter give this one a try.
