look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance- 3 Very dark brown with a small head that fizzles away sort of quickly, could have had something to do with my pint glass.

Smell- 3 Pretty weak. Notes of chocolate and malts. Pretty average smell for a porter I'd say.

Taste- 4 MUCH better than the smell. Coffee, chocolate, malts. Lives up to the name "Mocha Porter" (may be a tiny bit too heavy of the coffee though).

MF- 3.5 Heavy body but a little too much carbonation for a porter.

Overall- 3.5 Not my favorite by rogue but still enjoyable for sure!!!

At Rogue in SF. Reviewed from notes.

A: Rich mahogany color. Light head that quickly jets. Light lacing.

S: Dense coffee nose, with a light roasted malt backbone. I don't detect any hops.

T: Much like an English porter--there's a soapy theme throughout like a porter from across the pond. Lots of coffee, roasted malts toward the middle, and some wet hop tones in the finish and linger.

M: Light to medium body, with a soapy texture and some light carb.

Pours nice, brown and reddish, nice tan head. Malt, and mocha slight hint of chocolate, had to really get my nose in to it though. The taste very much reflects the smell but with more robustness. Goes down very well and has a nice crispness. Over all a very nice beer, great job again Mocha Porter.

Serving Type: bottle poured into clear glass beer mug.

Appearance: dark brown. not quite opaque. when held to the light there are hues of red. tan head that dissipates rapidly. some lacing.

Smell: sweet dark malty smell. hints of cocoa and mocha.

Taste: toasted malts with some cocoay bitterness. the toasted malt flavor is not all that robust. the cocoa bitterness is a persistent after taste.

Mouthfeel: a little carbonated prickliness on the tip of the tongue. semi-full-bodied.

Overall: not a bad porter, but not the best either. the after taste is good, but the initial impression is not great.

From notes, reviewed 1/28.

12oz bottle poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Pours a dark clear brown with tawny and red transparent highlights...off-white/tannish head quickly retreats...minimal lace.

S: Roasted malts, bitterness, coffee right up front...almost a burnt character. Chocolate emerges as it warms. A touch of earthy bitter hops.

T: Follows in unison with the nose...a touch of bitter chocolate combined with all of the roasted malts and coffee. Good bitterness & light hopping; while the coffee and roasted characters aren't overwhelming, they are still pretty prominent.

MF: Medium body, and quite dry.

O: Really quite pleasant, a nice dry, roasty take of a porter and a good change of pace from sweeter beers.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass

A: Very dark, almost black. a Ruby Brown color when put close to light. Had a creamy, tan, 1.5 finger head that lasted only a few minutes. Some decent lacing on side of glass

S: Not a strong smell, some roasted malt.

T: Malty sweetness, Notes of chocolate and coffee are evident.

M: Very Smooth, slick feeling in the mouth. Medium to heavy body and low carbonation.

O: A solid Porter, great beer for a winter night. Would purchase again for sure.
