22 oz bottle into tulip.

A: a hazy light orange hue. very slightly off-white head on top. O.K. retention and minimal lacing.

S: a real earthy smokey aroma. the aroma is mostly chipoltle peppers and not much else.

T: a little malt, a little bitterness, but not much as far as body flavor. most of the flavor comes towards the finish, which turnes to smokey chipotle peppers. as well as some heat. woohoo

M: very moderate carbonation on a light body.

D: this ale is exactly what it say's it is, a Chipotle Ale. aromas and flavors shout smokey chipotle peppers, which is unique and tasty, however i wish there was more of a body to go with it.

So strange! This beer pours a burnt orange color with the tinniest off white head that dissipates quickly. Smells malty and smokey. Taste is complex.. Sweet, smokey, some malt, smoked chilies, lightly bitter with a drying end. There is a lingering sweetness between sips. This beer is really unique.. There are so many cool things going on here.

A - Beautiful big soapy bone coloured head capping a deep dark golden amber. Sticky chunks of lace to the end.

S - Smoke and wood. More than a little bit like a rauchbier.

T - There's the peppers. Some meat also, chorizo. Wood fired pepperoni pizza with plenty of chilli.

M - Moderate to full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Bitter finish.

O - Very different and quite complex. Love the flavours and the whole experience really.

A- Out of the bottle with a full finger of light cream head over a beer with a orange color, tinted with red (just as the beer is tinted w/ chile...) to turn it towards the bronze spectrum. Not really any lacing.

S- The chipotle is definitely noticeable here, very much like the canned product, or a dried chile. It smells quite smoky, and spicy. As the beer warms, some different flavors come out- grass and pale malt.

T- Again, the chipotle is very noticeable. I was expecting hot spiciness but really only the flavor is there (see below for more). And there's a decent amount of hops as well, tending towards earthy-grassy variety of flavors. A beer that doesn't overwhelm.

M- My entire tongue is stimulated with this one. The sweetness sticks to the front; the spiciness sits in the middle; and the bitter hops are at the back. A complete package of mouthfeels. Very nice.

O- As expected this would pair great with some food. I was expecting a lot hotter beer. But this is really chipotle flavor with only a tint of heat. Well done.

on tap at Rogue Ales in Newport - served in a ROGUE pint glass

A - transparent golden amber body; off-white head

S - weak spicy hoppy smell

T - spicy up front with a light malt flavor and a touch of hops; the finish features chipotle peppers and a strong bitterness

M - medium body; average carbonation

O - The flavor is a little underwhelming, but otherwise pretty good for the style. Try one if you're in the mood for a spicy beer.

Color is a medium brown. A bit hazy. Pour with about a half inch of white head, which dissipates quickly, but leaves a thin layer on the surface. Smells very earthy and smokey. definitely some pepper in the scent. More smokey than peppery. Tastes a little flat. Starts off like a hoppy ale. In the middle you'll find a slight sting on the tongue, which turns into a pretty powerful hoppy bitterness. The bitterness will linger in the mouth for a few seconds. The beer had pretty good body, but I personally feel that it's a little watery. Good carbonation.

Overall, I feel that the beer lacks the real "chipotle" experience. You'll start to feel the peppery flavors as you drink more of the beer, but the peppery chipotle flavor is overshadowed by the smokiness. A good beer, but not one I'm eager to try again.

Poured from a bomber into a tumbler, the beer is a vibrant, slightly hazed copper coloring with no head. The nose is caramel malty in the background, with a pepper spice and smokiness in the forefront. Flavors are heavily ladened with the peppery flavors, both sweet and spicy, and a heavy dose of roasted smokiness. Very well balanced, and a good background of malt sweetness to keep everything held together and smooth. The beer is mid-bodied, and remains on the light side for the flavor profile. The aftertaste is mostly the smokiness, with bits of the pepper vegetable on the palate. Mid-linger finish, again mostly the smoke. Very unique and interesting brew. Great flavors, and not overpowering. Can't wait to have it with some enchiladas, or other Mexican fare.

A: Pours a nice orange with golden streaks when held to a light. It has two fingers worth of foamy off white head. Settles to a nice cap and left tons of lacing.

S: Has a very malty smell. Seems like a faint aroma of spices in the background but there isn’t enough to identify what it is.

T: Pretty thin on the taste. But up front you get a very malty taste but the after taste you get some spices and smokiness to it.

M: Lighter body with light to medium carbonation.

O: I like spicy things so I was hoping for a bit more with this beer. But it does let you know it’s a beer that has spices in it. I would drink this again but I won’t go out of my way to.

Split a 22oz bottle with my brother; poured in a tulip pint.

A: Pours a lifeless amber with barely any head. Head fades fast.

S: Some smoky spiciness, which is good. Other than that, a whole lot of nothing. There is some caramel and a spit of earthy hops.

T: Just a tad of spice. Everything else is pretty bland. This one isn't doing it for me.

D: Well, the alcohol isn't present, but nothing really pops in this beer. The mouthfeel is very weak, almost watery.

Overall: Cool idea, poor delivery. This is a weak, watery excuse for a craft beer. Would not buy again.

A: Pours a hazy golden amber with a thick white head. Looks good, but nothing distinguishes it from other ales. The appearance is fairly generic.

S: Faint notes of caramel, cream, and pepper can be detected immediately after pouring, but become more intense as the beer warms. It's an interesting scent to be sure, but I wish it were more assertive immediately after pouring.

T: The entry is spicy and smoky, immediately allowing the notes of biscuits, caramel, minerals, cream, and smoked peppers to jump out. The finish is long and complex with bready, biscuity malt notes underpinned by a subtle smoky spiciness.

M: The mouthfeel of this medium-to-full bodied ale is firm and dry, never distracting from the unique flavor profile. More drinkable than expected.

O: The idea of chiles in beer was initially off-putting, but I'm glad I gave this one a chance. It actually is very good.

From notes, bomber into a pint glass.

My girlfriend and I have been looking all over for a spicy beer that it is ACTUALLY spicy. It pours a medium amber color with barely a finger of foamy white head with minimal lacing. It smells nice, chipotle all the way but balanced with some sweeter malts and a faint hop character. Chipotle, chipotle and more chipotle as it goes down with some sweet malts and grains on the back end. The spice is surprisingly enjoyable and very apparent throughout. It does go down smoothly and has a nice full body thats perfectly carbonated.

Verdict: Certainly an interesting beer that is not for everyone. If you are looking for a unique flavor or to see where beer can go, check this one out. Another really solid sampling from Rogue who never seem to let me down.
