Reserve bottle from 2003
A - Luscious, rich, almost black body with dark brown lacing.
S - This smells so malty and sweet. Pure malt syrup in the nose. Scents of sweet brandied raisins and thick molasses.
T - Woody and malty up front. Huge dark flavors like molasses, syruppy malt, roasty wood. Faint chicory/chocolate as well. Warming spiced alcohol in the finish.
M - Dry on the palate and viscous throughout. Medium/heavy body with some nice carbonation. The dryness comes through most prominant.
O - A great stout. All the expected nuances like malt, wood, roasted grain. Nice and dry like an irish stout but spicy and potent like a Russian Imperial. Seems like 8 years didn't smooth or mellow this beer much but its a nice pop on the taste buds. Great choice for a roasty warm stout.
