Black bomb. Looks like a black bomb, this faux-ceramic bottle. Eye-catching. Capped with a flip-flange stopper. Pours like motor oil. This is slick looking. Viscous. Spicy coffee notes after popping cap. Pours with a rich off-red head. Like cinnamon. And plenty of it. Full sheets of stick lacing. Pretty solid black colouration, about as dark as the imperials come. I'm getting plenty of lovely, even salty sweetness, akin maybe to honey/licorice, or espresso. Maple syrup, and little to no scent of the alcohol. Lovely because I was expecting drier notes, but this is pretty unashamedly sweet in the nose. Dark chocolate. Raisins. The works.
Taste is full on peppery spice. Worty. Grainy, but suitably slick too. Massive hints of strong black coffee and bitter chocolate. Tasty, this, but not quite as complex as other imperial stouts for me personally. Thick in the mouth, but effervescent as well. Very little taste of any alcohol, rendering this 11% beast extremely drinkable. Paired marvelously with triple smoked oysters, brie, and havarti.
