A: Deep, ebony black brew with a good viscosity to it. Head is full and thick, a quality inch of tight mocha colored bubbles. So far so good.
S: Smells super oily. Slick bitter bakers chocolate, coffee grounds, oyster crackers, little bit of spruce and perhaps some raspberry.
T: First sip starts out just like it smells. Really oily with streaks of super bitter dark chocolate and intense espresso grounds. More low level chocolate layers continue with aspects of dried cocoa lingering on the center of the tongue. Some alcoholic waves begin to move in at the tip of the tongue then up into the sinuses. Then the bitterness comes and ooooh my goodness is this beer bitter. Its starts at the back side of the palate then begins to overwhelm the entire tongue from the back forward. Finishes with flashes of sweetness among the charred wood flavor.
M: Full bodied and thick
D: Ooof. This is one brutally bitter and dry beer. Starts off really nice but goes a bit too far into the dry realm for me. But too unbalanced, but still quite nice.
