7oz. bottle into snifter.
Pours a dark brown, almost black with a nice tan-toffee colored head. Has a rich malty chocolate nose with hints of roasty espresso.
The flavor is extremely astringent, to the point that it's a bit difficult to work through the astringency and truly enjoy the other flavors, but I was able to pick up some more nice chocolate and espresso notes. The mouthfeel is enoyable, a good medium body for a RIS, with a nice level of carbonation.
While I did enjoy this beer, the astringency did take away from the drinkability and overall enjoyment of it, though as it warms the astringency does become a bit more tolerable and allow for some of the other flavors to come through.
