A: Clear brown with a white head, average retention, no lacing. Poured with a 2-finger head, settled into no head.
S: Extremely smokey, like a Rauchbier from Schlenkerla. Rich and grainy malt is very strong, and a nice sweet fruity background is present as well. Definitely some hops in there, and a bit of chocolate.
T: Very very smokey, like a campfire. Yet, the Schlenkerla I've had is smokier. Style underneath the smoke is a nice sweet ale, with honey, northwestern hops, and a hint of chocolate. Aftertaste is still smokey, and the sweetness sticks with it. Metallic flavor comes out after a bit of drinking, which detracts from the taste.
M: A tad overcarbonated, a bit watery, medium-light body. Rather dry. A bit astringent.
D: Extremely good for this style! Smoked beers are generally rather hard to put down, so this one is exceptional.

On tap at Rogue brewpub in Eugene, poured into a pint glass.
A-Pours a dark golden amber, slightly opaque. Has a very thin top of off white head, visible lacing.
S-Smoked oak, caramel malt.
T-Sweet caramel malt, campfire smoke, slight hoppy bitterness. There's even the smallest hint of sour granny smith apple.
M-Light medium body, very light carbonation.
O-Pleasant smoke ale with light balance. The smoke flavor isn't overwhelming and I'd prefer more of it also more carbonation.
