Poured from one of the much-discussed $14 ceramic 750s.
Rouges take on the Double IPA style turns out to be a hazy red-gold brew filled with yeasty globs at the bottom of my glass. Hm. A weak white head settles to tiny bubbles swirling on the top and is reduced hanging onto the sides for dear life. Finding this much yeast in an unfiltered Hefe is fine, but in a Double IPA is quite odd.
I put my nose to the glass and am violated by grapefruit-lemon-citrus hops. When recovered, I note some piney resins and a sweet backbone of toasted sugar and honey. The whole beer smells kind of raw. The heavy malt sugar hides behind the absurd hops, but make no mistake what youre about to drink .
Yep, its hop juice. Not nearly as good as Rogues own 10,000, this is a bitter, citrusy, one-dimensional beer. Some supporting malt sugars make it somewhat drinkable, but theres remarkably little here after the hop assault and last ditch caramel sugars that rush in at the end for a quick save.
The mouthfeel here is fine; a mild carbonation aids the syrupy slickness to this otherwise unremarkable DIPA. Finishes dry and warming, like Ive just chewed on an unsweet grapefruit, a mouthfeel of orange peel, and finished it off with a shot of vodka. This beer could be so much better (Unearthly, 90 minute, etc) Coupled with the silly $14 price, this is a rare disappointment from Rogue.

Got a growler on the way out of Portland, bring it on the plane !
Light orange, clear IPA. Nice 1/2 inch white foamy head poured into my 10 barrel medium side snifter.
Mild bite from the IPA, nice mild grapefruit, hoppy flavor, very pleasant to drunk, even though it is over 9 %.
Mouthfeel seems 'bout right, a little malty goodness when you 'foam' it up in your mouth.
I would drink this every time at the airport, a nice find there , will probably add it in the cart now, from time to time. Drink it !
