Pours a murky light yellow-orange with a super foamy off-white head that settles to a thick cap on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, and a fruity note. Taste is much the same with a grainy flavor on the finish. There is a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a very high level of carbonation with an extremely crisp and prickly mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer with a carbonation level that is not helping the aromas or flavors at all.

Pours a moderately clear light amber, light off-white head that quickly settles to a solid coaster, good streaks of lacing. Nose is a good mix of sweeter malts and earthy hops, the earthiness likely enhanced by the soba. Taste is balanced as well - at first, a punch of honeyed sweetness, but as the beer develops over the palate, hits of bitter and sour buckwheat, earthy bitterness, maybe a tiny bit of phenols but not a major distraction. Mouthfeel is moderate and drink very easily. Glad to see it's making the rounds once more!

this has been around forever but i have somehow missed it until i visited the brewery recently. perhaps it went away for awhile, i definitely havent seen it in packaged form in some time. cool they got with morimoto on it, hes a boss. its a really flavorful beer, very light on the hops, familiar to rogue on the yeast side, their house strain i assume under fairly normal conditions, so its the soba that stands out with the rest of the malt base, even though this is light overall, real easy drinking. i get a definite earthy base to this, nutty like raw cashews, and also a lot of minerals rounding it out, some toasted character but not really bready, and maybe a light rye type spiciness too, a flash of honey, and an almost oceanic vibe to me, not quite salty or anything, but unique in texture and chemistry it seems. light but not watery, flavorful but insanely dry and fast finishing, with just a pinch of herbal hops coming on late. really unique beer, definitely the most subtle of the morimoto beers i have had to date, and a cool one to be able to drink at the source, i have loved this series and this brewery for a long time, so it felt special to have this there! i hope it makes a comeback as a packaged option for them...

S: sweet toffee, caramel, vanilla, sweet butter smell
T: sweet, slight caramel tasting; a little thin tasting
M: a little thin, but decent
D: ok mouthfeel and taste combo; smell is great, but taste is a little watered down

A: The beer is clear dark yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that left some wide rings of bubbles on the surface and a collar consisting of medium-sized bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of buckwheat are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and and has flavors of buckwheat, which seem to resemble a combination of raw wheat, grainy malts, and toasted malts. There is also a touch of fruitiness from the yeast.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and slightly chewy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer wasn't overly exciting, but it did showcase the rough and grainy characteristics of the buckwheat.

Aroma Is very faint, touch of wheat. Golden clear color, no head to speak of, but some fizzyness at the surface. Taste is light, but nutty. Very crisp. Tasty. Another nice Rogue beer."

From notes taken 06/14/17:

Butterscotch to copper amber color, fairly clear on first pour, more of a faint cloudiness than a haze. Second pour is much murkier, imagine an unaltered Dunkelweizen. Creamy white head with filmy, milky texture, and lower moderate retention. Smell is grainy, toasty, somewhat sweet and a little vegetal. Palate is very strange. Caramel-sweet and grassy-tart as expected from grain bill (which includes barley in addition to the soba/buckwheat), but attached to a vegetal/herbal/bitter/vinous starchy woodiness that I am certain must be the soba, rather than hops. Medium in body, with soft and creamy effervescence which lightens it significantly.

L - Golden amber with a minimal white head that leaves behind some lacing.
S - sweet malt and wheat, notes of caramel and biscuit as well as some floral notes but not very strong at all.
T - Sweet malt throughout with notes of caramel and biscuit. Wheat is present throughout. Hints of citrus. Some nuttiness to the flavor profile as well.
F - Medium to full body with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O - This is a pretty nice ale. Loads of malty sweetness with a good amount of wheat. Notes of citrus, biscuit, nuts, and caramel. Not really sure what I was expecting here but overall a nice ale. Definitely worth a try.
