Lightly chilled 25.4 oz. bomber into a stemless tulip. No visible bottling date.
Look- Pours a nice light maple syrup/reddish medium amber hue with four fingers of off-white head that settles to a dense foamy cap. Good retention, ample, if irregular, lace.
Smell- Hmmm. Not really much of anything here. Light white bread, that's about it. Swirling brings out a pearlike cidery aroma, toffee, and fusel.
Taste- Wow. wasn't expecting that, after the non-scent, but it's welcome. Pear and honey jam spread on toast. Soft fruit floral flavors carry throughout, honeylike malt sweetness that gets swept away by an herbal citrus onrush towards the end. Finishes with white raisin and a mineral twang. Aftertaste has a little peppery spice and toffee. Takes on a sort of honey-buttermilk biscuit feel as it warms.
Mouthfeel- Soft, smooth, medium body. Wouldn't quite call it creamy, but what little bite the carbonation has is just enough to keep things light. Oh-so-mild warming, it feels big, but not boozy. Good quench factor, just all-around fantastic feel. Could have put away the whole bomber- or two? This stuff could get me in trouble.
Overall- Very nice. It has a slick, fairly clean style that I can appreciate, just harsh enough to keep it from getting boring. Assertively malty but the hops are well-placed, and it never becomes treacly, overly sweet, or cloying. This one would sneak up on you if you didn't know it was 9%. Feels like an Americanized Stickebeer, and I applaud the brewers. I'll definitely be having this one again.
