A - reddy orange, slight haze, big off-white head, dense cream mixed with big bubbles, lots of sticky lace
S - solid malty sweet base, pretty basic, hops add complexity, but are not distinct or standout, very clean
T - med hop flavour, interesting mix w/ the cascade and crystal, but not overly strong, more of that nice malty base, aftertaste is med bitterness and bready malt, fairly quick finish
M - med low carbonation, med body, both work to carry the flavours pretty good, and still keeps it drinkable, alcohol heat is low, finish is dry
D - fairly tasty, though somewhat basic
Shared a bottle of this a couple nights ago at a tasting, and was hugely underwhelmed, it did not stand up whatsoever to the other beers we sampled.
However, this is pleasantly enjoyable on it's own, but it is still pretty one dimensional and tame, which makes it very hard to justify for a beer this high in alcohol and price. I think the malt base would be fantastic in a super hoppy double IPA, but as it is, there just isn't enough going on.
I've still been meaning to try their Brutal Bitter, but I continue to be apathetic towards most of the Rogue lineup, with the exception of Shakespear Stout, and the grossly overpriced Old Crustacean and XS Imperial Stout.
