Poured into a pint glass.
This was at one time my favorite beer, but I haven't had it in some two years I'd say. So, it now has to stand up to all those palette shaping beers I've had since...
A: It pours a pale amber color that is just bursting with carbonation. The beer is clear and hints yellow near the sides of the glass. There are about three fingers of khaki head at the top that have great retention and leave a foamy lacing.
S: Sweet and smooth, with a little bit of bitter spice to it. Toffee with a hint of dark fruits is the main smell along with some alcohol presence. There are also some hops that meld with a lemon aroma. It's really like a spicier, sweeter pale ale.
T: Big taste. Blunt alcohol that mixes well with strong hops and dark fruits. You feel every decimal of that 9% abv, but it works. It almost reminds me of a strong winter warmer. You pick up some lemon and earthy bitterness as well making it a strong but very well balanced and interesting ale.
M: Thin and carbonated. It works really well for this beer.
D: The thing I remember about 2x Dead Guy from a couple years ago was how quickly I drank it. It just seemed to go down so easily compared to before, when beer had been a chore (albeit a pleasurable one). The inebriated state I found myself in from drinking it so fast made me romanticize the role this beer played in my journey towards a love of the beverage. So yes, the alcohol isn't easy on you, but 2x Dead Guy still goes down so easy for me.
