Bottle: a standard brown 355mL bottle with the usual Rogue-style label.

Appearance: pours a clear amber with limited head, not much lacing either. Head settles to a light ring - would have expected more for AU$8.50 a bottle.

Aroma: more of a malt-driven aroma rather than hops - some bitter bread malts with a touch of pine hops. A pretty standard IPA if I'm honest. Standard Rogue stuff.

Taste: pretty much follows the nose but with a touch more citrus and pine hops. A standard IPA.

Aftertaste: a touch more bitterness comes through here.

Mouth feel: a good mouth feel - moderate in body with plenty of fine carbonation.

Overall: this is the fourth Rogue Ale I have had to date, and each of them - Yellow Snow, Juniper Pale, Moromito Black Obi Soba and Shakespeare Oatmeal - are average beers for exhorbitant prices. I think I'll forgo having any more from this extremely disappointing brewery.

I suspect I may be drinking an old bottle as it was in the clearance rack at the local Total Wine store. The price was right, and I wouldn't have purchased this beer otherwise, so here's my review regardless of the bottle date.
A: very interesting and lends the name "yellow snow" appropriately. Kind of an intense yellow, hazy and unfiltered looking. No gold or copper highlights here, just a big mess of proteins suspended in my beer.
S: citrus and pine to be sure, but way too muted for an IPA. Nice toasty/caramel malt notes and bready grain aromas.
T: full malt body, not as much caramel as the nose would suggest. Some of that grapefruit and pine hop flavors are immediate, but the back end bitterness is substantial. Leaves a dry, astringent taste that I find enjoyable and lacking in too many IPAs with lower IBUs and all the hops bursted at the front.
M: pretty substantial and full bodied, but the carbonation seems tame, perhaps giving the illusion of a bigger mouthfeel than it really is.
O: I like bitter beers and not enough breweries have the balls I make them. Everyone now is making "girly" IPAs. If my girlfriend likes your IPA, that means it has a nice dank hoppiness up front with very little bitterin hops in the back. She didn't like her glass of yellow snow, and that meant more for me. I'm going back to that clearance rack for another bottle.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3 | feel: 2.75 | overall: 3

Appearance: Slightly cloudy orange color. Half a finger of head which dissipated quickly to a thin layer across the top. Low active carbonation.

Smell: Very light tropical hop tones of tangerines and lemon on the front. Rounded caramelized malt body. Some lingering citrus sticks around but after that nothing much.

Taste: Saturated heavy citrus notes on the front. Dry malt body, with some lingering medium fruits. The back end is some substantial bitter pine with accents of grapefruit, oranges, and lemon zest.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is somewhat unnoticeable. Some lingering bitterness but pretty forgettable.

Overall: This may have no been the freshest ipa I've had but still it was unspectacular. I don't know how ambitious the overall vision for this brew was and it turned out very middle of the road. Many, many others I would recommend before this one.

355ml Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£3.80):
Golden yellow to amber, slightly cloudy with a creamy looking, 1cm tall, white head that holds pretty well initially.

Tropical smelling with a lot of citrus notes & mango initially along with some background hops, grapefruit and orange. The beer is very fruity & refreshing on the nose with some floral notes & light caramel for the base, some bitterness also features too.

Bitter with more hops than the nose indicated, there is some strong pine and grapefruit flavours with a little spice and orange as well. Some of the fruits from the aroma as well with some citrus too. Some caramel sweetness appears toward the middle and end of each sip and lots of floral flavours round things off nicely.

Medium with lively carbonation & a very bitter palate that still seems refreshing thanks the abundance of fruits throughout the beer. The beer was well balanced with plenty of flavours coming through despite the hoppy bitterness coming out on top.

Intensely bitter beer that was both lively and refreshing with a great combination of fruity flavours and a wonderful bitter aftertaste that lingers for some time on the palate. A very good example of an American style IPA and one that I'll be on the lookout for again.
