pours a pretty ruby red with a nice head and lacing...
smelled of grainy malts, sweet with pungent hops. Typical Rogue. Nice balance in the beer.
Good mouthfeel but not cloying.
Very nice on the palate, bitter hops comingling with the pale malts and crystal.
Very bitter on the finish that lingers for a good while.
Had two pints before I had to move on, would have loved another.

The name for this beer has been used multiple times by Rogue for other beers, this incarnation is quite good.Poured a rich muhogany with a creamy one fingered off-white head that never really settles.Crystal malt aromas really stick out, iron, lightly sweet biscuit, and some leafy hop, wich is quite subtle, linger.Caramel/vanilla malt flavors up front,a little toast as well, the hops come in leafy form, just a hint of citrus comes thru in a long finish.Near creamy mouthfeel makes it almost lush in the mouth, flavors wont blow ya away, but its a real nice winter offering.

A dark brown beer with red highlights. Thick tan head, fair amount of lacing. Nice caramel malt aroma, with a hoppy, citric aroma lingering in the background. The taste was a reversal of the aroma. Pronounced grapefruit with a small malt contribution. This was a pretty hoppy beer, not at all like other winter warmers I have tried.

Appearance: 1/4 inch head that goes away quick, clear, reddish/brown in color, high carbonation

Smell: citrus hops, wood, amd toasted malt

Taste: malty at first followed by floral hops, light spice, and some woody taste

Mouthfeel: moderately bitter throughout, light bodied, moderate carbonation

Drinkability: I am not a fan. This is a moderately bitter sipper that has spices that are less pronounced. I have had way better in the style, and would not buy it again for the price.

Poured on draft at Tyler's (Carrboro, NC) into a Rogue pint glass.

A: A rich beautiful burgandy colored brew with minimal head (poured slowly by the bartender) and thin, delicate lacing throughout.

S: Big nose - piney hops, caramel malt, roasted nuts, burnt toast and a smidge of vanilla.

T: Suprisingly hoppy with a caramel malty background that evens out the hops and slight heat. I'm tasting pistachios, vanilla and maybe a little blackberry.

M: The mouthfeel is silky, dry from the hops and fairly warming from the alcohol.

O: Pretty hoppy for a winter warmer but the malt backbone evens out the hops and heat, making this one of the better brews I've had by Rogue in some time.

A moderately aggressive pour from a 2010/11 550ml bottle into my pint glass produced a manageable 2+ fingers of multi-density tan head. Head had good retention and leaves plenty of sticky lace on the sides of the glass. Nearly opaque, this cloudy brew is a very dark brown.

The aroma is quite earthy and rather hoppy, with notes of caramel, citrus and vanilla.

T - This is a rich and complex brew, as is should be given that it is a winter seasonal made with 15 ingredients. The most noticeable characteristics are the very earthy richness, a complex hop component (derived from Newport, Horizon, Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo, Crystal 90 and Rogue Willamette varieties), and a strong toasted malt flavor. IBU = 68. Great hop/malt balance.

Mouthfeel - perfectly carbonated. Carbonation and hops impart some crispness. Near full bodied. Approaches a semi-dry finish.

O - Hops are more evident in the aroma than the taste, where the rich malt flavor dominates without masking the hop component. Mogul Madness is a smooth and delicious brew you can think of as either a winter warmer or a brown PA. In any case very flavorful and interesting without being challenging. Highly recommended year around.

Meant to have this during an Olympic ski moment, but well, life, she gets in the way...

This beer pours a clear ruddy amber hue, with three fingers of rocky, chunky ecru head, which leaves some random swaths of lace around the glass as it recedes. It smells of grapefruit and pine hops, and sweet caramel malt. The taste is piney hops, some subdued caramel/toffee malt, a bit of warming spice, and a soft booziness. The carbonation is quite mild, the body medium weight, smooth, and somewhat slick, and it finishes mostly dry, the piney hops predominating.

A pretty good hoppy ale - but any Winter Warmer characteristics are more or less obfuscated.

Pours a clear dark ruby red with a giant tan foamy head. The head lasts forever and leaves great lacing. The smell is strong with cinnamon, alcohol, hops, and roasted malt. The taste is robust with roasted malt, dry hops, carmel, some holiday spices, and alcohol. The m/f is medium with all the flavors mixing pretty well. Not a bad beer, but you can find much better winter warmers out there.

Appearance - Pours a dark cola brown, with a fat, 3 finger light caramel head, good retention, and the lace stays thick and sticky.

Smell - Classic Rogue smells here - chocolate, coffee and caramel maltiness, backed by a slight hoppy aroma.

Taste - Different than the aroma; pine and citrus hops are at the forefront, then followed up with some darkly roasted malt, coffee with light caramel and slightly bitter chocolate notes. The bitter chocolate follows through into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Creamy. Carbonation provides a decent bite on the tongue.

Overall - A very, very good Winter Warmer offering from Rogue. Classic Rogue flavors, but stands on it's own merit. Flavors are bold. A bit too much pine in the hop for my liking, but still a complex, aggressive winter warmer.

Saw this one at the store and figured i'd give it a chance.

Pours a deep ruby red color with a nice beige head that retains pretty well and leaves decent lacing.

Nose is mostly a rock candy like sweetness, smells like some dry hop aromas are lurking underneath it though.

Meh. Decent for a winter warmer, but not something i'd want to drink alot of. Dark almost anise like malt profile with some candy or licorice candy like sweetness. The "assertive hops" are there, but mostly just in the form of bitterness. Dry finish, anise and bitterness linger on the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is a little more viscous than i would like, but pretty good. Carbonation is fine.

Drinkability is decent, but i don't think i could have more than 1 bomber of these.

Overall, its an ok beer. Like pretty much all winter warmers its nothing amazing, nor terrible. If you like winter warmers it might be your thing. Meh.

Maybe too much hops, towards a double IPA yt all under control and fruity. Newport, Horizon, Simcoe, Continental, Crystal 90, Amarillo, and Rogue Farm Willamette. Peachy colour with fruit bits. Medium plus mouthfeel. Not for everyone but complex complement with food.
